Abraham Lincoln became President of the United States on March 4, 1861, at which point there were 33 stars on the United States flag. As of July 4 of the same year, a new flag was introduced, with 34 stars, due to Kansas being added to the union.

The Welsh Dragon known in Welsh as Y Ddraig Goch 'the red dragon', pronounced

[ə draiɡ ˈɡoch. the ch is sounded like clearing the throat.

Many refer to the Dragon by the name DEWI which is a welsh version of David.

Union Flag, or more casually the Union Jack

The flag consists of three horizontal bands of equal width with an overall length:width ratio of 2:1. The two outer blue bands represent the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The inner white band represents the land between the ocean and the sea and the peace and prosperity of its people. The five blue five-pointed stars arranged in an X pattern centered in the white band represent the five nations of the former Federal Republic of Central America (El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Guatemala) and the hope that the nations may form a union again.

The State bird is the Lark Bunting.

The State mammal is the Rockky Mountain Bighorn sheep.

The State flower is the Coolumbiine.

The State fish is the Greenback Cutthroat Trout.

The fourteen stripes represent the thirteen states and the federal government, as does the Federal Star, which with the crescent representing Islam, in yellow also represents royalty. The Federal star was originally 11-pointed but 3 more were added for Borneo states plus Singapore, but was kept when Singapore left the Union to represent Federal territories.

Officially, the meanings of the colors on the flag are as follows: * Green: the agriculture and rural areas of Zimbabwe * Yellow: the wealth of minerals in the country * Red: the blood shed during the war of the liberation * Black: the heritage and ethnicity of the native Africans of Zimbabwe * White: peace

The silhouette of an American Bison, also known as Buffalo, is in the center of Wyoming's state flag.

According to the flag's designer, Verna Keays Keyes, the seal on the bison represents the truly western custom of branding. The bison was once "Monarch of the Plains."

It was the Territorial flag of Alaska that was designed in 1927 by a 13-year old Native American boy, Bennie Benson, from the village of Chignik. He received a $1000 scholarship and a watch for his winning entry in the flag design contest. See the Related link below.

From top to bottom, the Russian flag has horizontal stripes of white, blue and red.

White for peace and maroon for bloodshed during war.

The Mountain Bluebird is the state bird of Nevada. It was adopted in 1967.
