(Blue represents Vigilance, Perserverence and Justice.)The flag flown today is patterned, colored and proportioned according to 1912 government specifications, with a white star for each state. The Political Significance and History of ColoursThe red on the American flag reflects the goal of being a social democracy, while the white of the flag typically represents purity and hope, but also often represents Christianity or the absolution of monarchic rule.Blue was a colour of much history, having been used by the old Tory Party in Britain, who arose out of opposition to the oligarchic Whig Party. Blue has been the colour of liberalism and conservatism, but the Tory Party that were touting this blue had sought to strengthen its ties with the Church of England (Non-Catholic Christianity). The earliest North American settlers were seeking a land free of oppression and dictatorial government, but also retained their sentimental and gentlemanly affection towards their British counterparts, thus adopting this highly evocative colour.
The 13 stripes on the American flag represent the first 13 British colonies that settled in America and eventually declared their independence during the American Revolution:

What does the France flag stand for?
The French flag is the official French pavilion since 1794. It was drawn by Jacques Louis David, famous French painter, but it has its origins in July 1789. Shortly after the fall of the Bastille, the king visited the Paris town hall and was handed a blue and red cocard - the long-time colours of the town - which he put on his hat next to the white cocard (French kingdom emblem at the time), as a gesture towards the people of Paris. It is said that it was an idea of LAFAYETTE and that the newly created cocard became rapidly popular. The 'cocard story' was witnessed by Thomas Jefferson on the 17th of July 1789
(Since the reign of Henri IV, the red and blue could be found in the royal emblems, standing for the Kingdom of "Navarre".)
The blue and red colours in Paris' flag were standing for the patron saints of the town (Saint Denis, Saint Martin). The popular "Garde Nationale", heir of the "Garde française" (regiment meant to protect the King) already had the three colors blue, white and red on their uniforms. Members of the Garde Nationale took part - and even led - in the storming of La Bastille.
The white was associated at the time with the kingdom, or with France, more that with the kings, and indicated the dedication of the kingdom to the Virgin Mary.
The three colors were used in different orders (blue-red-white for the scarf of public officials in 1790, white-red-blue in horizontal bands for the 'Fête de la Fédération' on the 14th of July 1790. In 1790 were also adopted new versions of ship's pavilions, despite some traditionalists arguing that because of the colors, it would resemble too much the Dutch flag.
The flag was adopted officially by the Convention as the national flag only in 1794 (15th of February).

What do the symbols in the US state flag represent?
A bison, the Wyoming State mammal and called the monarch of the plains, dominates the flag.
The state seal is in the center. A woman is pictured on the state seal. The woman represents the state's motto "Equal Rights," which is written on a banner she is holding. Wyoming was the first state in which women had the right to vote and hold public office. There is a rancher and a miner on either side of a woman.
The words "Livestock", "Mines", "Grains," and "Oil" are on two columns that are on either side of the woman; they represent Wyoming's agricultural and mineral wealth.
A shield (with stripes and a star) and an eagle are under the woman; they symbolize support for the United States.
The dates 1869 and 1890 are on either side of the shield; they are the dates when Wyoming organized as a territory of the United States and when it became a state.
According to the flag's designer, Verna Keays Keyes:
"The symbolism of the flag is as follows:
The Great Seal of the State of Wyoming is the heart of the flag.
The seal on the bison represents the truly western custom of branding. The bison was once "Monarch of the Plains."
The red border represents the Red Men, who knew and loved our country long before any of us were here; also, the blood of the pioneers who gave their lives in reclaiming the soil.
White is an emblem of purity and uprightness over Wyoming.
Blue, which is found in the bluest blue of Wyoming skies and the distant mountains, has through the ages been symbolic of fidelity, justice and virility.
And finally the red, white and blue of the flag of the State of Wyoming are the colors of the greatest flag in all the world, the Stars and Stripes of the United States of America."

What does the Confederate flag symbolize?
The best-known of all Confederate flags-the battle flag-is often erroneously confused with the national flag of the Confederacy. The battle flag features the cross of St. Andrew (the apostle was martyred by being crucified on an X-shaped cross), and is commonly called the "Southern Cross." A large degree of the Southern population was of Scottish and Scotch-Irish ancestry, and thus familiar with St. Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland. The stars represented the eleven states actually in the Confederacy, plus Kentucky and Missouri. This flag is the flap popularly associated with Robert E. Lee, and is the flag under which he fought.
The Army of Northern Virginia was the first to design a flag with the cross of St. Andrew, and Gen. P. G. T. Beauregard proposed adopting a version of it as the standard battle flag of the Confederate army. The Harper's Weekly Image above shows Beauregard's Arkansas troops serving under the "Stars and Bars" flag in 1861. The Army of Northern Virginia can be seen serving under the "Southern Cross" in 1862. One of its virtues was that, unlike the Stars and Bars, the Southern Cross was next to impossible to confuse with the Stars and Stripes in battle. The Confederate battle flag eventually developed wide acceptance 0throughout the Confederacy, but it was by no means the only battle flag.

What is the history of Spain's flag?
In 1785 King Charles III realized that most of European countries used flags which were predominantly white, including Spain. That led to many confusions particularly at sea. So he ordered to make a new one flag which can be seen clearly from great distances. The red and yellow colors can be seen very well at sea, so they chose that one, also to distinguished from others tribanded flags, the yellow central band was twice the width of the red bands. On the yellow band appeared the coat of arms of the king and above of it the Real Crown.
This flag lasted until 1931, when Second Spanish Republic was proclaimed, the new regime changed the monarchist flag for a new one in which the second red band was turned into murray and the coat of arms was changed as well.

The 5 rings represent the 5 continents. They are interlaced to show the universality of Olympism and the meeting of the athletes of the whole world during the Olympic Games.
At first, the way the rings were interlaced was sometimes a little odd compared with what we are use to today.
Nowadays, the Olympic symbol is subject to very strict rules. Graphic standards have been set down, which determine, for example, the exact position of each ring.
The colors of the rings also represent the whole world, as there is not a national flag in the world that does not have at least some red, green, blue, yellow, or black in it.

That is the only similarity (other than the blue quarter, which is used by many other flags as well).
Why do the Irish hate the color orange?
Though this may not be the complete answer you're looking for, I'll give it a go... It most likely goes back to the the defeat of the Irish at the Battle of the Boyne by the forces of William of Orange.
If anyone has any further information, or can further clarify, please do.
Answeri am an Irish catholic, living in the north and the reason i don't wear orange is quite simple. the Irish flag is green, white and orange. green representing catholics, orange representing protestants and white represets a peace between them ( but that is never going to happen, believe me ) over the years the loyalists paramilitaries and unionist governments have adopted the colour orange and used it and parades, eg; the orangemen, and the 12th of July. any catholic who would wear the colour orange would be viewed as a protestant as the colours you wear ( football jerseys, rugby jerseys etc ) are a sign of your religion and side on the conflict. so i don't know any catholic person who would put themselves at risk like that or risk being called a traitor. AnswerI'm Irish and I don't have any political views regarding the colour orange - I just wear it because it's my favourite colour. AnswerI'm northern Irish also, and my fav colour is orange..... Answer"I believe in.. a concept of Irishness that is not simply Catholic, Gaelic and Nationalist… in Ireland as the homeland of Orange and Green… creating a warm place in our State for those of the Orange tradition is not capable of being achieved overnight." Michael McDowell is Minister for Justice and PD TD for Dublin South-east"It is possible to be both Irish and British, possible to be both Orange and Irish. We face into a landscape of new possibilities and understandings." President Mary McAleese
