I dont know what they are but you wil probably be able to get rid of them by spraying a litle detergent on the surface of the pool. that wil probably drown them. dont make a habit of using detergent on pools however it is not good for the water.

There is no predetermination for when an animal gets the fleas. The chance of an animal getting the fleas is completely random. Take it as a hunch though, I think the lazy type neighbors might get fleas the most often.

Fleas are insects. They breathe by means of spiracles, which are simply holes in their sides. Water doesn't block spiracles because of surface tension. But organic solvents are deadly to insects. Black engine oil is foul and dirty. Don't even think about pouring it all over your pet. Instead bathe your pet in flea soap.

I'm trying to do this. After lots of research I'm coming to the conclusion that nobody's researched it. I found one (US) source that said to wash in hot water and add a bit of bleach to 'ensure the fleas are killed'. My problem is that I have a lot of nice clothes that can't be washed in hot water or have bleach used on them because they are too delicate. So, currently, I'm washing everything in my normal cool wash with soap powder and hoping that this will do the trick. Given that you kill lice/greenfly by adding soap to water, then dousing them and this penetrates the insects normal coat and drowing them - you have to add the soap or the water does not penetrate the insect's exoskeleton. Anyway, this is ongoing because i have a large house and family, 2 small dogs and 2 small ferretts and a very big flea infestation (from the ferrets). I will keep you updated as to whether the washing this way works or not.

A good carbolic soap and a hot shower will help, however, the fleas will also be in your clothing and bedding so they will also need a good washing in hot water.

Just use a flea shampoo and then a collar after wards or one of those flea prevention meds you add to their food.

Another option would be to start your puppy on a flea/tick preventative like Frontline, Advantage or Revolution. These medications, while expensive, also help control other parasites. If you have a severe infestation on your puppy or in your house, I suggest talking with a veterinarian or a professional pest exterminator.
