Fleas

Fleas are wingless insects that live off the blood of mammals and birds. There are over 2,000 species of fleas, and due to their thick outer layer, are difficult to kill through force alone. When fleas feed on a host, they tend to leave raised and itchy bumps, and can sometimes cause diseases.

Can you use Ajax to kill fleas on dogs?

Please do not use Ajax on your dog to kill fleas. That is way too harsh for your dog's skin & might cause more problems. You can purchase some flea & tick dog shampoo pretty cheap at a pet shop or feed store, etc. Give your dog a bath using the flea shampoo, be sure to let the shampoo sit on the dog for about 5 minutes or longer. You could also use a good flea spray to get rid of the fleas. Make sure it is made for dogs. Frontline flea spray is a good one. The best thing to use is the once a month topical flea & tick protectants. You just put the amount measured out directly onto your dog's skin and it lasts for a month. It will kill & prevent fleas, ticks, mites, etc. from getting on your dog. Just be sure to use it once a month. You can also find these in the pet store or feed stores. I personally like Frontline Plus or K9 Advantix II but you can find cheaper ones too out there. Just make sure they don't wash off in a rain storm or a bath, it will tell you that on the label.

Will sergeants skip-flea shampoo kill lice on humans?

About 2 years ago, i compared the ingredients in the sergeant's cat skip flea shampoo to the treatment i was using on my children for lice from walmart. It had the same active ingredients. I was a bit nervous using pet shampoo on humans, but the ingredients were the same. We used it, and it was a much nicer type of shampoo than the human stuff we were buying, plus there was actually enough in the bottle to do the job! I had spent a fortune at walmart. It had a wonderful coconut smell, and i am now trying to find some more. We don't have lice anymore, as this did work for us. But i sometimes feel that a preventative wash would be a good idea! Sometimes after sleepovers and such.

Your best bet is going with a better name brand such as Frontline or Advantage instead of the low budget products. BUT the biggest problem with fleas is removing them from the environment. Any product will kill the flea when they jump on your animal and bite but these products are not repellants. My biggest piece of advice is treating your yard and the home if necessary. Bayer (which is the company that makes Advantage) has a product that you can buy at Home Depot called Bayer Advantage and you can get it in a granule or a spray that you can use to treat your yard. Very inexpensive and lasts 3 months. Takes care of the fleas, ticks and some other bugs. In the home, you want to vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Fleas will not survive the suction of the vacuum. That includes not only your carpet, but any rugs and furniture as well. Make sure to get underneath furniture too. Borax powder is the best on removing the fleas out of the home. You put down the powder on your carpet, rugs, furniture and brush it down in there. You'll need to leave it down for about three days and then vacuum. It is completely safe for you and your animals. At one vet clinic I worked at, there was a product being sold there and the main ingredient was the borax powder. That product was guaranteed one year. I know someone who used the borax powder and it was 3 years before they saw a flea on their animal.

And with all that being said, when you work so hard to remove the fleas from your home, yard, etc.. remember that when you take them for a walk and you let them go in to other peoples yards. You don't know if there are any fleas there. Also, if someone has a bad flea problem in their house, they can bring them in to your home on their socks!

If you had fleas will they inhabit your house?

What effects do fleas have on cats behavior?

Well, it sounds weird, but your cat can be allergic to a flea's spit.

When the flea bites your cat for blood, spit comes out of it's mouth, and that's why your cat scratches like crazy.

Your cat will lose hair and get raw and inflamed skin and he'll feel miserable and his appetite will change, causing weight loss.

Fleas carry a blood parasite. Because they feed on a cat's blood, that parasite can get into your cat's blood stream, and do some nasty damage, leading to death if this is severe an not treated.

With dogs, it's pretty much the same. The fleas will multiply and soon, 1 little flea can become 100,000 and your dog will be very sad.

I hope that helped somehow.

How do you kill fleas in basement?

Step one- go outside to your favorite woodpile and gather some nice dry wood.

step two- bring the wood down to your basement and put it in a little pile in the corner. try not to get any fleabites.

step three- yell at the pile of wood! Insult the pile of wood so horribly that it catches fire.

step four- prepare a tiny walkway from the floor to the fire with a sign posted "Flea Circus"

final step- watch in awe as the little pests go of their own free will into the flames where they are burned and sent back to the hell they were conceived.
