Im pretty sure there clover mites because i looked em up on google images so if the really small tell me, small would be saying smaller than a dime, anyways if they're not tell me and ill look further into it,PEACE.

I think they must have we have some at home and I think they actually GROW from the fruit! I never thought they bit until yesterday when I found a series of clear bites all up my left arm and now it's itching like mad - I don't like fruit flies, they thrive in damp sugary environments and multiply by the dozen daily! I used some insect spray to get rid of them but found more alive - gat rid of all bad fruit and flower is my advice!

But their is really no error free way to keep them off. Sorry!! But the Fly spray I use is pretty good, its Pemectrin II. It works pretty well, but it detereorates after 2 hours, so its not that good!!

It could be a number of things. It could be like you suspect, a reaction from an insect. But he may have injured himself. He may have been kicked by another horse if he is with others. It could be an infection of some sort or even an infected tooth. Watch it closely. If it was an insect it should begin to go back to normal within a day or so. If not or if you see other symptoms do not hesitate to call your vet.
EEls only eat flies if they are green eels, otherwise they ae very dangerous to eels and may kill the eel :(

ok...so let me clarify a bit. I like the clever answer, but what happened is, at my friends' house a bunch of flies just clustered in one area, there was nothing there, the house is clean, and by the next day (it took a whole day) they were gone. Aside from the obvious reasons flies would be there....does anyone know if there is any other weird reason they would just be hanging out in one place, a whole bunch of them, and then the next day, the entire group be gone.
