How do you remove a lacquer floor finish?
We were attempting to remove lacquer from a quarry tile floor. We had inadvertantly put lacquer on quarry tile, which I guess is a no-no. We had a white discoloration that was appearing after only a few days after application. This discoloration was determined to be lacquer that was not bonding properly, and the problem was growing. The only way to correct this problem was to completely remove the lacquer. We sought help through this help sight, but got no answers, so we experimented on our own. We reasoned that lacquer thinner should thin lacquer, so maybe it would remove it. We tried a test area, and it did remove it, but not completely. We deduced that we were only thinning it, and when it dried, there was still just a thinner layer on the quarry tile. So we went to a more powerful thinner- acetone. Acetone has a quicker evaporation rate than lacquer thinner. We used absorbent rags and wiped on the acetone and off with the lacquer ! We had to repeat the process several times with clean rags each time, to get it totally clean. Our rags turned yellow after they dried, indicating to us that we were getting the lacquer finish removed. Keep in mind that we used lots of precautions- cannister-style breathing apparatus, rubber gloves, non-absorbent knee pads, lots of ventilation, etc., etc. We made sure all heaters, etc. were turned off so not to ignite any fumes. DO NOT attempt to take off any lacquer without at least the above protection, if not more !
You will want to make sure you remove the old toothbrush holder and the soapdish. Replace the space with matching tile. You could select a new toothbrush holder and soapdish which stand alone on the vanity countertop.
"It is free if you do it yourself or if you want someone else to do it find a highschool kid to do for $20.00"...... This is a ridiculous answer from someone who is obviously not involved with construction in any way...The $2-2.50 range is quite standard for tile removal and if anything it is too low in my opinion...there is a lot involved....I charge anywhere from $3.50/$5 per sq. ft....this includes chipping the old tile off of the concrete slab, grinding the thin-set with a diamond cup grinding wheel, you have to take it all off....right down to the slab....and then prepping the floor for new installation...which includes leveling the slab. I use 4 mil plastic to enclose the area to keep dust from traveling throughout the house and attach a $500 vacuum to my grinder to make sure that I minimize the dust in the first place. Then I use a $30,000 truck to pull a $10,000 dump trailer up to the house and remove all the trash...then I drive 25 miles to the nearest dump that takes construction debris and pay to dump it....so as you can see when you factor all of this (and more....I didn't even get to insurance, workman's compensation, and fuel cost!!!!) for a legitimate contractor to do the work $2.50 is a steal....you might want to check his license and insurance just in case....
i'm not sure about a steal, but 2-2.5/ft is a fair price, don't pay the "high school kid" $20, he comes in while chipping and gets a piece of ceramic in his eye, guess who is liable... verify insurance before hiring anyone as already mentioned

What is the average cost per square foot to install hardwood floors in Maryland?
The installation should run you from $2-$4 per sq ft, using a licensed professional.
The product will vary from .99-$9.00 per sq ft.
It varies from contractor to contractor. Types of tile and sizes. Complexity of the job. State to state. Remember you get what you pay for. If you go with the lowest bid you probably are going to get a sloppy job and you will regret it. I have seen this happen too many times.
I am not the low bidder. I don't want to be the low bidder. I take pride in my work and charge accordingly. It costs more but the homeowner is thoroughly pleased when the work is done and they are happy to show off the tiling work to their friends and relatives. I get referrals.
When looking for a tile setter make sure you get references and pictures of previous jobs these people have done. It will save you headaches and money later on.
Granolithic Floor is a marble type mosaic floor finish that uses Portland cement as base materials. It has a characteristics of durability, beauty and variety installed in either by:
a. Monolithic or cast in place - means massively, solid, single and uniform floor finish cast in place. A mixture of cement and marble chips to a proportion of 1:3 is casted on top of a rough floor slab surface to an average thickness of 1.25 cm. the floor is then grinded after it has attained sufficient hardness to withstand abrasion and vibration caused by the grinding machine. Grinding of the floor surface should not be allowed earlier than 48 hours after casting.
b. Pre-cast - refers to granolithic tiles in various dimensions hydraulically pressed and molded in a factory. The distinctive difference between the cast in place and the pre-cast installation is the manner and place of casting or molding. The former being installed on site and the latter at the factory site. Thus, pre-cast is installed in a tile form while cast in place is installed in a fresh mixed form.

Check you local Home Depot to see if they have a "Hard Surface Cleaner" for rent. The tool will basically have a brush that spins very fast but does not scratch or damage tile or other floors. Add the correct solution for your type of floor in the output tank. It also has powerful suction that cleans up the dirty water. For cleaning you can go forward and backwards. For suction make sure you pull backwards.
If it is concrete you are looking to clean, then either a pressure washer with a surface cleaner or a floor polisher with a diamond tipped coating removal tool followed by the diamond tipped surface preparation tool is your best bet.

If the tiles are glossy like I have in my home, I Vacume up all the loose dirt, then use a non streaking class cleaner with paper towels, takes some time but looks great when finished
TO ELIMINATE THE STREAKS WHEN USING PAPER TOWELS, USE NEWSPAPER. NEWSPAPER DOESN'T LEAVE STREAKS, LINT, ETC. IT WILL TURN YOUR HAND BLACK FROM THE PRINT, BUT IT WORKS GREAT WHEN CLEANING WINDOWS, TILE, ETC. YOU CAN ALSO USE A MIX OF VINEGAR & WATER INSTEAD OF GLASS CLEANER.

500 square feet is how many yards of carpet?
55.56 yards of carpeting. Just divide the feet by 9 and that gives you the yards. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The above will give you square yards of floor, but you need to know what size the roll of carpet is. Example, if the carpet comes on a 12 foot roll and the room is 10 by 20 (200 sq ft or 22.22 sq yrd) but you would have to buy 12 by 20 (240 sq ft or 26.66 sq yrd). You need to determine the size of each piece of carpet and then figure your squre feet /9.

What is the cost of installing ceramic tile in Dallas Tx?
What is the going rate for hardwood flooring installation in New Mexico?
The going rate often depends on the product that is being installed. Generally you should expect between $2-4 a foot for hardwood installation. You will find some who install for less but there will be less given. I live in NC and my basic rate for pre-finished hardwood is $2.45 a square foot. That price is for up to a 4" wide plank, remove and dispose of old carpet, (and hourly charge is added for tile or other hard surface removal), put down 15lb roofers felt for a vapor barrier, undercut all door jambs, remove and rehang all doors, (an additional charge is added if they need to be cut to fit back in the jambs). You should expect additional charges that can include the following. LEVELING!!!!! I have installed thousands of square feet of flooring and have NEVER once had a subfloor that was perfectly level. This cannot be accurately estimated until the old flooring is removed and a level is put to the floor. Generally you should be prepared for 4-6 hours at a rate of $40-60 an hour plus materials. If you have a raised foundation this can also include subfloor repair. Also if you have a concrete subfloor and are not using a glue down product you will need to pay for a wooden subfloor to be installed. This will generally be 3/4" plywood installed over the concrete. There are 2 ways to do it and not enough space here to explain both. This will cost in addition another $2-4 a foot for installation plus materials. If it is not pre-finished then there is another $2-4 a foot to sand and finish the product. Hope this helps.

Yes you do seal porcelain tile unless it is pre-sealed. The reason for this is because most stone is porous and will absorb any liquids or humidity. This could result in mold and mildew growth. Consult the manufacturer on maintainance and care.
