How do you keep homemade ice cream from getting too hard in freezer?

Check the temperature of your freezer. Although the best freezer storage temperature is 0 degrees Fahrenheit and below, the best dipping temperature for ice cream is between 6 degrees Fahrenheit and 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

The other thing you can do is check your recipe. Using cream instead of milk will give you a softer end product. An Internet search also suggested adding some alcohol to the recipe.

How fast do oysters go bad at room temp?

Are these cooked or raw oysters?

If the items are cooked, they should be kept in chaffing dishes or warming devices to keep them hot. As soon as they look unappealing, you should discard them. I alway recommend checking dishes every 15 minutes to check. If the items are just at room tempeture, they should be discarded.

If the oysters are raw, they must be kept refrigerated at all times. If you are hosting a partying, place a few on a platter and keep it on ice and make sure the oysters stay cold. Again, I always check food every 15 mins when hosting to ensure items are at the best tempature.

Is dried mango a processed food?

That is correct, dehydration is a process. When you pick a ripe mango off the tree, that is an unprocessed food, which you can eat exactly as it is (or if you like, peel the skin off first - it's still unprocessed). When you dry the mango out, you are processing it. It is a relatively simple process, as food processing goes, but it is still a process.

Anything you do to a food that changes it from the state it is found in nature is processing. A food can be processed, but still be healthy. It just depends on what the food is, and how it is processed. A dehydrated mango will be much less processed (and healthier) than something like mango syrup. The syrup would be a much larger change from the mango's natural state.

When does cooked taco meat go bad?

If it's ground beef it should be in a sealed container in your fridge and used within four days. Turkey, subtract a day. Always use your eyes and nose, too. If it has any weird discolorations or mold or smells the least bit "funny" don't take a chance. It's MUCH better to settle for something else than end up sick or dead.

How should carrots be stoared?

Carrots are difficult to store while raw because they start to sprout.

My mum gardened a large amount of carrots every year, then skinned them by scraping the skins off, cut off the top and the end of them (that's VERY important if you wish to avoid getting a type of hepatitis and ruining your liver for life if you eat any dirt that's there between the green part and the rest of the carrot). Chop the carrots, boil them in water for only a minute or two, cool the pot of water by standing it on a bench, strain the water out and then put the carrot pieces into plastic bags in the freezer, and THEN the carrots will keep well. This is called "blanching" and it's a must to cook them for only HALF of the normal time. When you want to eat your carrots, cook them again until they are truly well-cooked. Carrots, on the skin, can go rather brown quite quickly, if you scrape the skin off and then leave them on the bench or in the refrigerator. Carrot juices is extraordinarily healthy, and are wonderful for people with eye problems, or for children whose parents have eye problems, drink plenty if you like, it seems impossible to overdose on that. Raw carrots are incredibly much better than cooked, yet if the above is organised, then, a large number of carrots can be bought in bulk, and cheaper. Sorry they won't last long from fresh. Organics is best.

Are mushrooms fermented?

Pickling and fermenting is a practice that's used to preserve a whole host of vegetables. While mushrooms can shrink and even dissolve entirely during the process, it is possible to ferment mushrooms, even if just to add flavor to a blend of pickled vegetables, relishes, sauerkraut and other commonly pickled mixtures. Milk cap mushrooms stand up to the fermentation process better than most other kinds of mushrooms.

What are the reasons for preserving food?

In the past, before refrigerators, it was the only way to store perishable foods. Also, when traveling in areas without food supplies (on land or certainly at sea), it was the only way to have meat, fish or some vegetables. The final reason is to be able to have foods that are out of season; for instance, berries usually grow in the summer. Making and preserves allows people to have them year-round.

In this day and age of refrigeration, easy access to supermarkets and trucking that brings any kind of food to any location, the main reason is really more of a luxury, simply shelf-life in the fridge; you can keep foods longer before having to throw them away.

What is glycerin anhydrous used for?

Glycerin has hundreds of uses in chemistry and manufacturing. The kind you buy for home use is commonly used as a skin lotion (it is the base ingredient in many skin lotions). Lotions can be expensive and can contain glycerin plus dyes, perfumes, spreaders and alcohols. The additives can cause allergies and the alcohols can cause dryness so many people use just the glycerin as a moisturizer. "Anhydrous" just means it has very little or no water (is nearly pure glycerin).
