Yes, it is possible to train a 4 years old German Shepherd. In fact, it is best to train a puppy as soon as possible.

A rescue dog would be the least expensive. Be wary of anyone selling cheap German Shepherds. There's always a chance they are puppy mill dogs.

If you really want one, visit your local shelter or contact the nearest German Shepherd Rescue organisation. People often buy a Shepherd without researching what the breed is like. They quickly find they can't handle the dog, or can't offer it the stimulation it needs and dump the poor animal.

All dogs are related to wolves, as in they are both canines. However, the husky has very few similarities to a wolf. Although they are both pack animals the husky is not as aggressive as a wolf.

We don't call them shepherds here we call them sheep station owners. unless you are talking about the Australian blue cattle dog. they are quite smart however they can get a little temperamental, so you have to watch them if you are not the owner.

The origin of the Doberman Pincher isn't completely traceable. It is thought that dobermans are bread from German Pinchers (very smart breed), German Herd Dogs, Great Danes, and Rottweilers. Of course without knowing for sure, there can be all kinds of combinations. I have 2 dobermans now, and have had 2 others (separate times) in the past. Through my personal research, I find these breeds to be most consistently mentioned in literature about dobermans. - also the breed has changed since it's arrival to America after WWII.

They are both very smart breeds but dobermans are generally faster and more agile than a German shepherd due to their more compact frame

All three breeds are excellent guard & family dogs. The difference will be in your life style. Which one suits your style. Dobes & GSD are easier to train (make note). Which breed you decided make sure and buy from working lines. The working lines come with strong training in protection work & stable temparments. Finally make sure your dog receive protection training to get the fully benefit of a stable dog (a dog easy to control) & protection. Also do some research on protection training & go by a certified trainer.
