How do you replace the air conditioner belt on a 2000 gmc sierra?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

1. Make sure that when you purchase a new belt, they don't try to sell you the full size serpentine belt.

2. There is a diagram of the belt routing on your truck when you lift the hood. Follow that.

3. Unfortunately, you need to remove the serpentine belt to replace the air conditioning belt.... the belt routing for the serpentine belt is also shown on the diagram.

4. To remove the serpentine belt, get a ratchet set, and crank the "self tensioning" assembly to release tension on the serpentine belt, and remove the belt.

5. There is another "self tensioning" assembly for the air conditioning belt. Crank to place the new AC belt on and release.

6. Re-install the serpentine belt.

This is an easy fix... it took me less than 20 minutes, I'm not a mechanic.

TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLERS

Here's how to connect a trailer brake controller to the 2007 Silverado and Sierra pickups. These instructions do not apply to trucks with option JL1 (Integrated Trailer Brake Controls) available on H.D. trucks for 2007. Also, trucks with option TP2 (H.D. availability) already have the 12v battery trailer feed used as part of that RPO.

This hookup is entirely different from the earlier Silverado Classic and Sierra Classic.

TIP: The owner manual (page 483) refers to 4 wires, but there are 5 wires looped back in the IP harness. The fifth wire is not required with most systems (see table below).

1. Locate the trailer brake control circuits looped and taped to the main harness under the IP (fig. 13).

2. Pull the trailering wire harness down.

3. Match vehicle harness label circuit functions to the trailer brake controller jumper harness functions (fig. 14).

TIP: Match functions. The colors of wires that are to be joined together may not match.

VEHICLE HARNESS FUNCTIONS Wire ColorFunction Dark Blue Switched power from controller to trailer brakes Red with Black Stripe Fused vehicle power to electrical brake controller Light Blue with White Stripe Brake switch input to power electric brake controller White Ground Orange CHMSL (not required with most systems) 4. After completing the under-IP connections to the electric brake controller, open the hood and locate the red wire taped to the harness between the under-hood electrical center

(fig. 15) and the driver side front fender.

5. Break the tape on the red wire and pull the wire toward the front of the vehicle.

6. Remove the cover from the electrical center.

7. Place the terminal on the larger of the two studs (fig. 16) at the front of the electrical center and secure with an M8 nut.

A Location of larger stud

B Existing fuse

TIP: The fuse is already present in the vehicle to power the electric trailer brake controller system.

AUXILIARY 12 VOLT FEED TO TRAILER

This hookup may be used operate electrical devices in the trailer -- for example, a refrigerator or a battery charger.

1. Locate the red wire looped and taped to the chassis harness below the brake master cylinder (fig. 17).

2. Break the tape and route the wire to the front of the vehicle under-hood electrical center.

3. Place the terminal on the smaller of the two studs (fig 18) on the electrical center and secure with an M6 fastener.

A Location of smaller stud

B Install fuse

4. Install a 40 amp fuse to power the circuit.

TIP: Devices powered by this fuse will drain the vehicle battery if left connected with the vehicle not running.

How do you tell what type of differential is in a 99 GMC sierra 1500?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is supposed to be a stamped metal tag attached to the bolt holding on the rear cover.

If this is missing clues like the number of bolts in the rear cover, the type and size of u-joint, and so on may enable you to trace it back.

OF course you could just ask your local GM dealer to tell you. He should be able to tell from the VIN number.

User Avatar

They all are problems with the transmission. Torque converter solenoid, 1-2, 2-3 shift solenoids, etc. It's fairly uncommon for all of them to go out at once. I wouldn't know where to begin looking for a problem on that transmission.

Blown fuse or bad flasher unit. Often, cars use different flasher for the turn signals and the flasher, so it is possible for the hazards to work and not the turn signals.

What cause back lights and dash lights to blow fuse in 1997 GMC Sierra?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Fuses That "Blow" Repeatedly

Without being able to "hands-on" troubleshoot the circuit served by the repeatedly blowing fuse, no one can identify the specificcause/defect.

The following generic answer applies to any electrical circuit, whether in a vehicle or in a building, or whether alternating current [AC] or direct current [DC].

Fuses [and Circuit Breakers] are safety devices designed and installed in electrical circuits TO PROTECT the conductors [wires] from short circuit conditions and/or overload conditions which can cause extreme overheating of the conductors that can result in damage to the insulation and the conductors. And in worst case, the probability of a FIRE which could destroy the vehicle, house, or other structure in which the circuit is located.

When a fuse [and replacement fuses, or "tripping" Circuit Breakers] "blow," especially if it happens repeatedly, is an indication of an UNSAFE CONDITION in that circuit, usually a short.

The proper "fix" is for a qualified technician, who knows what he/she is doing, to troubleshoot the involved circuit, find and identify the defect, and make proper repair [s], BEFORE replacing the fuse again [with the properly sized fuse or before resetting a circuit breaker].

Some ignorant few will suggest installing a larger fuse or breaker to solve the problem, BUT that will only amplify the problem, not solve it. Do not follow "bad" advice and install a larger fuse in a misguided attempt to correct the problem. To install a larger fuse would almost guarantee damage to the wiring and an electrical system fire.

How do you replace the spare tire winch cable on a 2001 Chevy Tahoe?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

1. Remove the lock cylinder with key.

2. Pinch open the plastic retainer collar that connects the guide tube to the winch, and slide the tube out of the way.

3. Remove the 5/8" mounting bolt that holds the winch to the body. I needed a breaker bar to get mine loose.

I found the replacement kit cheapest here:

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/catalog/frameset.cfm

Body Hardware/Rear Body/Spare Tire Carrier/spare carrier

Should re-mount easily - don't know, I haven't tried re-assembling yet!

What is the year on a gm 350 casting number 1101213120?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In looking over the casting numbers at mortec.com, I was unable to find anything that started with 1101 or ended in 3120. Also, none of them had more than 8 numbers.

Perhaps it is not a Chevy number, or you may not have gotten the number correctly. On a Chevy v8 engine, there is a small flat surface in front of the passenger side cylinder head that contains numbers that can identify the engine and it's original application.

How do you fix an air condiosoner pump because it does not spin or work?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Do you mean that the AC clutch does not engage the compressor? Or do you mean that the AC compressor won't turn even if the clutch is engaged? If the compressor is siezed and will not turn even if the clutch is engaged, the only choice is to replace the compressor. If you can turn the compressor by hand (understand that the belt pulley will turn freely with the engine if the clutch isn't engaged) but the compressor clutch isn't engaging, it might just be out of refrigerant. There is a sensor, usually somewhere near the receiver/dryer) that detects the "low side" refrigerant pressure. Once the refrigerant pressure at the sensor drops below a specified level, the compressor will not turn on. In other words, if the compressor clutch won't engage it might just be out of refrigerant.
