What do you wear to an funeral open house and should you bring something?

I am having that exact same problem this evening. I chose to wear a nice longer but sleek black skirt. Plain but elegant black pumps, nude stockings... if any at all and a dark maroon colored dress shirt. I don't think it's inapropriate anymore to wear colors, as long as they are of a darker shade. I am also thinking it may be a good idea to bring a sympathy card with a hand written, well thought out statment of my sincere condolences. Good luck to you and I am sorry for your loss.

How do I tell a 3 year old his grandad has died?

One approach would be to tell the child that the story of Grandad's life has come to an end. You could sit together and look at photos of Grandad, and tell stories about different times in Grandad's life - where he grew up, where he went to school, how he met Gramma, what he was like as a Dad, and how much he loved his grandchild. You could make a scrapbook together, and call it The Story of Grandad. Then explain that just like the book will always keep that story inside the book cover, your hearts will always hold Grandad inside your loving memories.

Can you lose health or weight through grief or worry?

I actually gained weight when my husband died but many of the widows I spoke to did lose weight because of their grief. I think that our physical health and weight are tied to our mental health and that when we mentally become stressed out our body reacts by getting sick. They are all signs that we are under stress and should take action to care for ourselves. Also, our eating habits change when our life style changes through grief or worry. Some go to the fridge out of boredom or eat to ease their pain. Others have no interest in anything, not even food because they are so depressed.

Yes we can lose our health or weight through grief or worry but we need to be aware of it. Once aware of the danger we can take action by getting out more or by finding new ways to cook etc. Life changes have to be made so we don't fall into self pity and get depressed. Read motivational books and watch positive movies to lift your spirits and help you to handle your grief and worry. Positive emotions can not live in an negative environment so fill up of the positive.

Is grief experienced prior to a loss?

Grief can absolutely be experienced prior to a loss.Such griefcan be thought of as anticipatory grief. It's the very real anguish that is felt when the death or loss of a friend, family member or patient issomething that is expected.

It usually begins with the news of a coming departure, whether a terminal illness that cannot be treated, as with a terminal diagnosis of cancer, or even someone close who is moving away.

It is one of the hardest bereavements to cope with since the loss is expected and can be extremely painful and hard to endure while waiting for the expected event to take place.

How do Buddhists deal with grief?

Buddhists are not Spock like beings that rationalize grief into nothing and mutter phrases like "Ahh - this pain results from my uncontrolled desire to have things better than they are. I must conquer this weakness!". Like all people grief arising from loss or the death of others passes through phases for Buddhists - numbness and denial, anger, great sorrow, depression, dispair and confusion turn into acceptance and even transcendence as sorrow reveals opportunities for appreciation and compassion. These phases are similar to those experienced in any of life's changes - separation, transition, or return.

Those somewhat familiar with Buddhism sometimes point to the unhappiness around "attachment" as something that must be overcome. Attachment means the desire for a person to be with someone or something and absence from this nearness produces sadness. This would seem to indicate that the sadness in bereavement or grief is somehow wrong or undesirable. In his teachings the Buddha taught that this attachment is only a cause for sadness when it is limited and vanishes when the attachment is directed outwards towards all others.

Dr's kubler-ross 5 stages of grief and dying are?

Kubler-Ross's five stages of dying are:

1. DENIAL - EX: shopping around for a more favorable diagnosis or that a mistake was made. This could include going to different doctors just to make sure you have been diagnosed correctly and it was not a mistake.

2. ANGER - EX: expressed as hostility, resentment, and envy toward care workers, family and friends. Often time a person in this stage will question "why me?" A person may try to give others their disease because they are so angry.

3. BARGAINING - people will look for a way out. Ex: making a deal with GOD. Promising to be a better person. A person might say "If you let me live I will never do anything bad again."

4. DEPRESSION - feeling deep loss, sorrow, quilt and shame over their illness and consequences.

5. ACCEPTANCE- the person accepts the inevitability of death and often seems detached from the world and at peace. "Final rest before the journey".
