During the protestant reformations the leaders of the new churches used ridicule and mockery of the then Christian faith (Catholicism of today) to bolster adherents to the new religion. During the first 1500 years of the Christian religion, All Souls Day was one of the major feasts of the church. All Souls Day was a time of communion both spiritual and physical between the realm of the world and the saints of heaven. Protestants began to mock this feast day with the concept of Halloween - which became a day when protestants made fun of the Catholics with visions of ghouls and ghosts. As the new feast of mocking grew in popularity the celebration grew to include the food and decoration of other feasts of the season such as the old traditional fall and/or harvest festivals of the local regions (such as October-fest in Germany). As the protestant movement expanded, a puritan under tone took hold. Puritans believed the Christmas feast to be based in the pagan rituals of Sol-Invictus (return of the Sun) which most Sun Worshiping religions of the European community held to. As protestant Christians lost a winter feast they began to move some of the joyful celebration to Halloween as the new Protestant churches accepted their members celebrating a holiday that ridiculed the Catholic beliefs. As such fancy dress (costumes) where moved from the European Christmas to Halloween as was the English Christmas of treats became Halloween's trick-ir-treat.

In short, Halloween was created by protestants to mock Catholics; began to borrow pagan harvest festival decorations and foods; grew in stature as Puritans banned Christmas celebrations; and latter incorporated versions of European Christmas celebrations.

At Halloween people celebrate with events such as trick a treating. Children knock at your door in scary costumes and say the phrase trick a treat and they expect you to give them sweets or money.

Halloween did not become a holiday in America until the 19th century... until Anoka, Minnesota started an organized town event to celebrate Halloween in 1920: it had the first Halloween parade!

Halloween actually started out as Samhain, a ceremony celebrated among Celts and their ancestors. It also marked the end of the winter solstice as well as a prosperous harvest. According to the tradition, this was the one night a year when spirits were free to walk the earth. Origin suggests that the Celtic families would hide in their homes in fear of these spirits or coming into contact with them.

the deleted Scenes in the movie Hocus Pocus are not released on any of the DVDs or VHS tapes. By my understanding, the deleted scenes were indeed completely filmed and ready too go. how ever to shorten the movie, Disney scraped the scenes. I believe Disney still has them, somewhere. In the trailers for the movie, it shows clips of the deleted scenes (such as the pool scene, the super market scene, and the candy crow scene). i am still one day hoping too find these scenes somewhere online or for Disney too release Hocus Pocus with the deleted scenes filled in. But as of now there is no way to watch the full deleted scenes :( i know it really sucks

Halloween, the night Michael Meyers came home, reigns as the most popular, successful, and possibly the best slasher film ever made. It certainly was the first real slasher movie and laid the groundwork for all that followed. Movies that proceeded Halloween had a piece or two of the puzzle, but in 1978, all the elements came together to form something that would become one of the most beloved sub-genres in horror film history… the slasher film! Some consider Halloween a whole lot more; many feel it's the best horror movie ever made. Whatever your opinion, it is a classic and has haunted millions. Who would have thought a William Shatner mask and a speechless "Boogeyman" with a butcher knife chasing a babysitter could change the face of horror?

The film has spawned seven sequels so far, who knows when or if Michael Meyers' saga will ever end. While Halloween didn't kick off that huge wave of similar films right away, it is the father of them all, even Friday the 13th, which did usher in the 80's slasher craze. It made John Carpenter and Jamie Lee Curtis household names to fans and used that most special holiday to scare millions for years to come. After Halloween, no holiday was safe ever again, nor babysitter, nor teenager having fun. The " Boogeyman" was now real. The film works so well because we never know the reason why, Meyers is just evil, an evil kid that grows into an evil man, coming home after escaping an asylum to terrorize a group of friends on Halloween night in suburbia. Maybe the simplicity of it all makes it work so well.

The film series has had good and bad spots. The direct sequel does a good job of picking up right where one left off. The third is a wholly different film and is Halloween in holiday theme and name only, but still a good movie. Meyers returned to the series thereafter and has remained and evaded destruction ever since. The sixth film is normally regarded as the weakest link, that is until we all scrutinize eight enough. Jamie Lee Curtis returned to the role that made her famous in seven, only to finally be killed by her maniac sibling in eight. Surely, Meyers will see the screen again sometime in the near future, as no horror "Franchise" stays dead long if it makes money. Perhaps Anchor Bay will release yet a few more versions to eager fans. Perhaps sequelization dulls memories a bit, but Halloween still stands as the most influential movie of its kind. No one who has viewed ever forgets it or Carpenters' memorable score. Where would we be without it?

For all intents and purposes, Halloween does not exist in Europe. There is a market for historical costumes , though in May various Joan of Arc festivals, cavalcades(Lit Horse parades) Battle reernactments (Rheims, of course)- are held. But Halloween does not exist AS WE KNOW IT in Europe. L"Europe Au Front!- Europe Up Front! a Popuolar slogan(Pun intended- Your up!) used by the Waffen SS of all people. They also had recruting posters showing suave Franco-German Tank troopers wearing Berets and using belt-mounted portable radios- Walkman l943 fashion!
