I would however recomend buying the Toshiba A3 HD-DVD player, it is backwards compatible with DVDs and has great image and sound quality. Probably about the same price as the top of the line DVD player.

I have owned one for 2 years now and it's bar none the best tv I have ever had. If you can't set your definition to 1080i it's probably because your component out does not offer that options. If the connected device does not go to 1080i it will not appear as an option. Now if it does then your tv is screwed up so call a repair service. This is not a joke the Hitachi 50vs69a is 1080i
