Because of liability concerns, most manufacturers do not provide specifications on the size of screws or mounting instructions for their televisions. Virtually all TV wall mounts come with a large assortment of screws to fit all TVs with standard VESA mounts. A 42-inch TV will use a M6 (6mm metric) or M8 (8mm metric) screw. The mount will have these screws in various lengths. When you get the mount, use the longest screw possible that you can tighten by hand to hold the bracket to the back of the TV. Do not over-tighten, as you may damage circuit boards or even the LCD panel itself.

They are all made to the same standard (aspect ratio). If you mean screen size, they go up to as much as you can afford. Projectors can producer a picture many feet wide.

That is a question that you have to answer. The newer TV's offer more than just the 1080p. Some were 60Hz refresh rate and now some are 120Hz and other are as high as 240HZ. Many now come with LED backlit and a slimmer design. These are just the LCD HD Televisions. You did not say whether you had a rear projection HDTV. In any case the longer you delay the more improved newer models with more features and a clearer sharper picture will become affordable. Even if your HDTV was a 52 inch 1080P LCD the new LED LCD could be worth it to some people. When many people upgrade a TV they just move the older one to another spot in the house. What your plans are with your older TV will be part of the calculated decision you are already in the process of making.

Plasma televisions use phosphors to generate visible light. Although the technology is different to older CRT based televisions, the phosphor is common to both of them. Plasma televisions gained a poor reputation when they were first introduced because static images could cause phosphor burn in a short period of time. Phosphor burn is caused by high brightness levels on certain parts of the screen with the result that the phosphor is no longer as effective as it was, showing a dark shadow of the image that was left on the display for too long.

Since their introduction, the screens are far more stable and phosphor burn is not as much of a problem as it was. Despite the improvements, showing a high contrast static image for long periods of time can still cause image burning. For domestic use, this shouldn't be an issue.

Whatever you like. A good picture framer will make frames in any size.

All manufacturers are moving towards displays without bezels. As display technology develops, the bezel width will reduce even further.

It would depend on the brand of remote that is being used. Just look at the instructions that come with the remote to find out how to properly set it up.

s-Video is pretty much a dead standard. You should use it only if your tv does not have component video or HDMI.

Pioneer Elite. The Elite line of products are among the best you can buy. Samsung has nice units but their goal was to make high tech affordable. Pioneer does that with their standard line of products, but the Elite is reserved for the performance minded buyer.

HDMI and VGA are two interface standards for video signals. While the two are different, the quality of either of them is dependent on the source of the signal rather than the interface. Both are capable of carrying high definition signals. Indeed, VGA is used for higher resolutions that HDMI currently handles.

HDMI is digital while VGA is analog. Although HDMI cables have restriction on length, the image quality will not degrade over a long cable run (subject to the maximum cable lengths). VGA signals can become degraded over long distances, showing up as smeared vertical edges on the display.

HDMI carries audio data as well as video, so one cable does the job of a VGA and audio cable combined.

It is worth noting that DVI is the digital standard for computer displays. DVI is fully compatible with HDMI video but it does not carry audio so it is a much closer equivalent to VGA.

HDMI is becoming the standard for all commercial HD video content. It is getting almost impossible to purchase equipment that outputs any form of HD video on VGA or on analog component signals.

An HDMI cable connects from the Bell cable box to the surround receiver and then to the TV.

If the subtitles are included in the program content, you should be able to display the subtitles. All televisions made after 2002 (I think that's about the right year) are required to be able to display subtitles. It's called, `closed captioning`, and you should be able to turn it on and off from your remote control.

Yes, several stores that sell televisions still sell the analog to digital convertor boxes. The price has dropped significantly over the last two years. A converter box can be found in some stores for $20 or more.

You need to connect a good higher powered amp. and speakers to the Audio Out connectors on the back TV if it has them.
