How do you extract menthol from mint leaves?

Steam distillation yield mint essential oil.

From the essential oil you have two options: Extraction, reduction, and purification. Or you can take the essential oil and perform a re-crystallization.

The first would be to take the distillant, dry it, and isolate your essential oil. Then perform an ethanol extraction on it several times to get most of the methanol out. Then NaOH washes to remove random impurities and alkaloids, then you want to dry it again (Na2SO4 would be ideal). Then you rotovap off your dried ethanol solvent. You should have crude methanol. Take this and perform a cold finger sublimation. Scrape your methanol crystals off the cold finger and bam, pure Methanol.

Or you can perform a re crystallization, but I'm not exactly sure what solvent you would use. so that would take more research, but I know it can be done.

How do you cure root bound plants?

Pot or root bound plants need to be re-potted into a larger pot. Do not go up more than two sizes in your pot.

Place a piece of coffee filter paper over the bottom of the new pot, (works better then pebbles or other things common used for drainage) add potting mixture to a point where the current root ball will sit on it and be level with the upper edge of the pot. Remove the plant from its old container, loosen the roots from their circular habit, and place the plant into the new pot. Add potting mixture around the root ball and tamp firmly in. Water the plant well and place in an appropriate location.

What is the 16 16 16 on fertilizer bags?

I think it relates to the mix of nitrogen, phosphorus, & potassium I don't get the 16 as a measure but this is what they represent.

16-16-16 is the relative percentage % of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P), and Potassium(K) (in the form of Potash).

Miracle Gro is 15-30-15 meaning that mixture is 15% N, 30% K2O5, & 15% P2O.

Plants use these nutrients to develop different parts; N builds strong leaves, Phosphate builds strong roots, and Potash promotes root development and disease resistance.

A useful memory device is: "Up, Down, All-Around".

The #'s represent how much of the N-P-K is put out in a 1000 sq ft.

THIS ANSWER IS PARTIALLY INCORECT. Generally correct, but the middle number is P2O5% (not P or P2O) and the last number is K2O% (not K or K2O5). You can convert P2O5 to P by multiplying by 43.7% (there is that much phosphorus (P) in P2O5; the rest is oxygen (O)). You can convert K2O to K by multiplying by 83.3%.

How do you properly trim a mint herb?

Mint is a very prolific plant that will keep growing almost no matter what you do to it. I'm not sure there is a "proper" way to trim it. Some use their fingernails to break off individual leaves as they are needed. Personally, I use a pair of scissors and cut the stems. You can hang them upside to dry for use later or use them fresh. You want to do many cuttings through the season, this keeps the mint in control of spreading and becoming mammoth and also keeps it from going to seed so you can have more cuttings through the season. You can make a mint pesto, tea, mint oil, mint sachets for drawers and closets and it also keeps mice away. It roots very easily as well so if you put in a vase it will root within a week or two and then you can replant in another area or in pots to have all year long as long as it does not go to seed. (going to seed is when the herb flowers and then dries into seeds) the plant will usually die down once this happens.

You can't. Only Naruto can do it.

Edit: The asker means how does Naruto do it. Why would he wanna

waste his time trying to do some pixels?

If you mean the Rasenshuriken, that is the combination of Wind Affinity +

Chakra Shape Transformation molded together with 2 shadow clones

simultaneously to produce that jutsu.

If you mean Fuuton: Rasengan, that is just the completed version of the

Rasengan that Minato Namikaze originally wanted with his in-complete Rasengan.

Naruto adds Wind Release into his Rasengan, but is harder to master.
