How many miles can you expect to get out of Honda CR-V?
It can remain a quality car for up to 100,000 miles if regularly serviced. After 10 years and 100,000 miles its looks and performance will go downhill until it becomes a banger. If you buy it new, you will probably trade it long before it gets to 10 years old. If you really look after the car it will easily cover 250,000 miles.
Stinky Stock Syndrome - occurs when you drive with the recycled air on too much of the time. It causes a mold to grow and your car ac smells like sticky socks or something spoiled or gone bad. Just keep recycled air off as much as possible to prevent this from occuring. If you already have it, you will need to drive without recycled on for ~2wks to clear the smell out. Try spraying Lysol into vents to help clear it out. The dealer won't do anything more than this to fix it.
How do you remove and install the fixed rear passenger side window on a 1999 Honda CRV?
I wasted way too much time for directions on the web, and found nothing. So here's what I did - it's probably not how Honda would tell you to do it. I bought a new window for about $80 (dealership or website).
My window was smashed, so this describes how to put a new one in. It also tells you how to replace the small triangular vent window.
Remove the bolt (10mm) and bracket that holds the bottom of the rear vertical window track. All you see is the bolt head, but there's a spacer between the inside of the door and the track. You can just reach inside and get it when you take the bolt out. Then if you gently lift the gasket away from the top of the track, you'll see a small screw that you need to remove. Then pull the main window gasket out (from the corner near the screw) enough to move the vertical track a couple of inches towards the front of the car. Pull the small triangular vent window out.
Then you can put the new window in, placing the edges it into both tracks. Place the two bolts at the bottom of the window into the regulator bracket holes. No need to adjust the bolts - they just slide into the holes on the bracket. I put the triangular window back in then, screwed the top of the slide back in, pushed the gasket back into place.
You might want to raise the window slowly, and/or leave the bolts a little slack, in case something needs to be adjusted. Good luck. pafricana@hotmail.com
Can a 1999 Honda crv be retrofitted to have a child car seat LATCH system?
No. The lower LATCH anchor points are contained in the lower rear seat assembly both left and right. The rear seats in 1997-2001 CRV's do not contain any suitable mount points for lower LATCH restraint anchors.
What does the SRS signal on Honda CR-V dash board mean?
SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) or Air Bags. The light is on because there is a problem with the system. Take it to your dealer. This is not a DIY repair.
I had the same problem with my 2004 CRV - the dealer replaced the SRS switch at no charge....seems like it may be one of Honda's "secret warranty" issues, but I'm not complaining, the switch is expensive!

If it is stuck there is a special puller (that's what the two threaded holes are there for)
Even better than buying the tool, just find two bolts that match the threads and jiggle the drum off....its alot cheaper!
Anyone ever have a musty basement smell in the Honda CRV?
It sounds like you may be describing the symptoms of either floor mats that have become water soaked and are mildewing, or a plugged air conditioner condensation drain. For the mats: do a manual check of the mats both front and rear to determine if any of them feel waterlogged - if so, remove them and dry them out, and at the same time check to see if there is any place that water may be entering the passenger cabin (loose door seals - rusted through hole in the floor pan -etc). For the A/C drain: slip off the condensate drain hose - located in the lower right hand forward corner of the housing and insert a stiff (but flexible) wire in the housing and down the tube to free any blockage and allow the accumulated water to drain out.
