Why do granite counter tops need to be sealed?

Granite is real stone, and as such it is naturally porous. Microorganisms can grow in the pores and contaminate food on the surface. Makers of granite countertops therefore provide or recommend sealants, usually a form of spray silicone, to minimize the natural porosity of the stone. It should be noted, however, that natural stone countertops are not certified in the United States for use in commercial food processing because of the porosity/microorganism problem. There is another form of "granite" top called "engineered stone" or just "quartz" which is basically a ground up granite mixed with resin. These materials, which go by many brand names, do not require sealing because they are permanently sealed with resin, but they have their own quirks. The main thing for most people is esoteric: if you love the natural beauty of real stone, go for it, and seal it according to directions and keep it scrupulously clean.

Why should you use hot water to make tea?

The particles in the hot water move much faster than the ones in the cold water because they are heated, so they gain energy, making tea bags brew way faster in hot water than they do in cold.

What is the best way to fold a fitted sheet?

There’s really only one way to fold a fitted sheet without succumbing to the frustration that usually accompanies the task.

The elastic bands do present an issue, see, and most of us end up shoving unfolded linens into our closets. That wastes space, and it’s completely unnecessary—folding a fitted sheet is fairly simple, once you’ve mastered the technique.

Here’s the best method:
  1. Start by holding the sheet lengthwise by the top two corners (the short side of the sheet will hang down). Keep the right side (the one that faces up when you put it on the bed) toward your body, but make the corners inside out, so your hands are inside the corners.
  2. Bring those top two corners together. Fold one corner over the other, pulling it so that its elastic fitting covers the other’s.
  3. From the second corner, slide down the edge of the sheet to the next corner. Pick it up and tuck it into the second corner, bringing the elastic over the new corner, like with the first two.
  4. Slide down again to the final corner. Bring it up and tuck it in behind the other three corners.
  5. Lay the sheet on a table. Keep the corners facing up, and be sure to smooth out any wrinkles as you work to keep your linens as flat as possible. Fold the sheet vertically in thirds. Fold in from one side, then the other side (so, while you’re folding in thirds, you’re only performing two actual folds).
  6. Fold the sheet horizontally in thirds using the same process. For larger sheets, you might decide to fold in fourths. By this point, the sheet should be relatively flat, and the elastic should be completely within the folded linen. If the elastic is still exposed, you may have to shake the sheet out and start over.

Folding a fitted sheet isn’t actually difficult, but it requires some precision and attention to detail. Practice a few times, and you’ll get the process down.

How do you clean leather gloves?

Go to any automotive supply store, find the detailing dept. buy a container of leather cleaner, follow the directions. Automotive leather cleaner, i have found to work really well.

First bought Meguiar's leather cleaner/conditioner for my beige leather seats.....did nothing to clean them (I'm using a horse hair brush). Than bought Autoglym leather cleaner.....also without any improvement. Went to detailer who suggested using Spray Nine on a white rag (white so the colour of the rag doesn't bleed to your seats from the Spray Nine.) This worked awesome, another advantage of the white rag was I could actually see how much dirt came off my seats. I of course conditioned my seats after I was finished cleaning them.

Pour the acid onto the foil and wait 3-4 minutes, use paper towel to wipe off the acid, and then a soapy wet rag. Repeat process until all foil is dissolved. Then wash surface thoroughly and repeatedly with a soapy dish towel. Once complete run water in the sink for 5 minutes till any possible remaining accid is flushed from the sink. The foil is gone and the porcelain is preserved. Works great! (Don't breathe the fumes and ventelate the area or move the stove outside)

How do you get a sick stain from a cream sofa?

When the stain is still fresh, apply white wine. The color begins to disappear and then all you're left with is the wet part of the stain. If the stain is dry, then use a little soap that is safe on the material (I would try Palmolive) and hydrogen peroxide. Spray, dab, or pour the mixture on the stain. Been there done that!
