Do human accomplishments have long-term meaning?

It really depends what you mean by "long-term" and what you mean by "meaning". If "meaning" is understood as "having consequences", the consequences of some accomplishments have been significant for centuries, and occasionally for millennia. Roman engineers perfected the making of concrete two thousand years ago, and it remains a profoundly significant technology. If "meaning" is taken more as a spiritual term, this may not be a particularly "meaningful" accomplishment, as compared, say, to the widespread suppression of blood sports in the last 100 years.

But the whole of human history is just a drop in the bucket when compared to the life of the earth, or even more so, of the universe. If "long-term" is to be viewed on a cosmic scale, human accomplishments, even those with the most significant consequences and highest moral value, are a chirp in a vast ocean of time.

Why are humans so fallible?

Humans are not at all fallible. The problem is that most of the things you are doing are actually being done by the 'Nature' and you think that you are doing them. You think that you are breathing. Yes, you are right! You can take the breath in and out at your will. But, then now try to do otherwise. After two minutes of holding the breathing, that becomes exceedingly difficult to hold the same and impossible after three minutes. No body has ever died of holding the breathing. Same thing about the food and water. Thirst and hunger is not in your hand. You are going to get the same. Then you need a sleep. Desire to go for sex is another powerful basic instinct. You can not call that you have failed, when you go for these basic instincts. But then you need to understand that it is the nature, which is putting you into all this. Then you need to go for moderation in all these things. That means not less and not more. When the whether is too hot or cold, you feel uncomfortable. You love every body and hate nobody, when you realise that others are just like you in different genetic make up. When you hate somebody, you hate yourself only. You can kill animals for food only. Because all you eat comes from living things only. That is the design of the nature. You should understand that some body is dieing to give you food. Eventually, you are going to become food for microorganisms, when you die. Then you need to pray to God, once you are comfortable. You can reach to God by devoting all your deeds to Him. Step by step you can control your desires and needs and then one day you become part of God. One day every soul is going to become the part of God. You do not know about how, when and why the souls got separated from the God. This is 'the' reason, why God loves you so much and forgive you every time you fall.

What are the guidelines that distinguish acceptable behaviors from unacceptable or deviant behaviors?

It depends on the culture of the people. For example, a Christian may use the guidelines of the Bible or such and an Indian may use the guidelines made by the Indian public. Also, this can be affected by what allows the human race to evolve and survive. That's why some people are greedy. We are evolved to be greedy in nature as food could be scarce. So, in some cultures, marrying multiple people may be considered inappropriate in some areas but is acceptable in others. But in general, killing a large number of people is considered wrong in 99% of people in many places as we are evolved to help others survive.

Why do employees sometimes make excuses for behaving unethically?

The quick answer to this has two parts: first, employees tend to not want to think of themselves as unethical, because that places them into the same category as people like Heinrich Himmler and Charles Manson, whose gross violations against society have echoed decades after they stopped acting.

Second, employees want to avoid having to answer for such actions, especially where they believe that the actions were well-justified.

In general, current thinking for resolving the problem of unethical behaviors is actually training in the area of ethics and morals (from a philosophical perspective, rather than a religious or societal one), after which any breach of ethics leads to dismissal, to preserve the company's interests.

A few days of training is well worth the investment, as it dramatically reduces legal risks and increases employee productivity by giving employees a framework in which decision-making is faster and more productive.

Is it normal to enjoy fantasizing about torturing and killing others?

Most people have the occasional unhealthy thought, which doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them. You can be really angry with someone, and have the thought you would love to see their brakes go out. Generally though, you wouldn't really mean it. You would never really want to see something happen to that person. It is a thought, it passes, you may even feel a little bad that it crossed your mind. However, if you are having these thoughts often, fantasizing scenarios, or even enjoying the thoughts enough you feel like you could act them out, then something is wrong.

Fantasies about hurting or killing others is a classic symptom of antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). ASPD can lead into other harmful behaviors and thought processes. You may become distrustful of others, agrressive, or give the impression that you only care about yourself. You might start to think everyone around you is trying to manipulate you. If someone says that they like your haircut, you will try to find their motives. You may start some destructive patterns of behavior.

ASDP can be difficult to treat, mainly because people that have it often do not feel they need treatment. However, the longer a person has this disorder, the more of a risk they become to themselves and others. It is a good idea to go for a professional assessment. It can be decided if ASDP is the issue, or if something else may be going on. Either way, there are treatment options.

Not really, one is physical and the other is mental or emotional. Holding a grudge really does a person no good. You can feel hurt, betrayal and possibly with good reason, but holding on to it only makes you feel worse. Some people forgive, some forget, some just let the source go and move on. A lot of people in life are going to do things to you that you don't like or that are wrong. That's just the way a lot of people are. Holding on to it only hurts yourself. Learn what you can from it to help in the future and let go of it. The source of the hurt is not worth worrying about.
