How many Jews died in Hungary in World War 2?

Most sources give a figure of 450,000 Hungarian Jews in the Holocaust. ('Hungarian' refers to Hungary in the borders of 1940-1944. It that time it included the Capartho-Ukraine and parts of Slovakia, Transylvania and Serbia). The victims were transported by train to Auschwitz-Birkenau in May-July 1944, and most were killed soon after arrival.

___

I belive your list probly more correct then Wikipedia "World War 2 casualties" list! It only lists 200,000 lost to holocaust? and it says 300,000 lost to military deaths? Considering their own country was agaisnt them? How much military fight can you put up? Maybe with they will correct this list in future? Cause i have seen your figure listed many more times then what they have listed on that site?

Reply:

Hungary's borders changed during World War 2. The figure of 200,000 seems rather low even if it refers to Hungary's prewar boundaries. Incidentally, changes in frontiers are important. Otherwise, one can end up counting some victims twice (or ignoring them altogether).

The Axis History Forum thread (see link) gives a figure of 410,000 as the absolute minimum for Hungary (1940-44 borders).

Who is the Hungarian painter Parisini?

I recently purchased a painting by this very artist and there was a biography attached to the back. It is typed on old, faded paper and this is what I can figure it to say:

"The artist, the descendant of an old Hungarian family, has left Hungary in the wake of the 1956 revolution and is since that time residing in Vienna, Austria.

Earlier studies at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts resulted in a thorough knowledge of the academic style that was so well cultivated by such Hungarian masters like Pettenkofen Munkacay and in later years the famous master of stillife paintings: Kompoesy. This was also the teacher of Parisini and the flower paintings are resembeling the suxtness that was so famous for Kompoesy's palette.

A field of great success for Parisini is portrait painting and many important personalities in Austria and Germany has been portrayed by the artist. "

Where did the last name Kesely come from?

I cannot explain where the last name Kesely comes from - However, the name Kesely originates from the country of Liberia, West Africa within a specific tribe known as the Kpelle. Kesely means "Leader, Chief." The information is accurate as this is my first name and where I was originally born. To see this first name and last name spelled as "Kesely" on those who are non-Liberian is unusual. Usually they have been Kelsey or something to that nature.
