Which browser does not support image files like GIF?
There are browsers like Lynx that are text only browsers and hence do not support images. They are pretty good for analyzing site content by overlooking graphics.
In case you don't want to view the images on you browser you can block the images. To do this go to Tools -> Options -> Content -> untick the load images automatically check box.
Try to restore all your settings on IE and depending on what verison you have select SSL 2.0 and 3.0 TLC 1.0 in the advance settings. Good luck
How can you tell if an Internet rental listing is legitimate?
"Owner Direct" listings in places like Craig's list are the most likely to represent actual units. If you call the number, and the person you speak to isn't the owner, you've been had. The problem is, brokers are colonizing the 'owner direct' web-sites with their own ads. The listing databases maintained by local realtors are most often simply a marketing resource, consisting of 'representative' properties. Simply put, there is no incentive for these agencies to ever remove a listing. Each property is there to generate leads. With no address information provided in the listing, there is simply no way to put a stop to this practice by local agencies. The purpose of the listings is to drive calls to the brokerage, and to allow customers to get a ballpark sense of what is available in a given area, and at what price point. After consulting a broker, the broker makes a series of phone calls to actually locate available properties. On-line listing resources are Ok for getting the lay of the land--but they aren't useful for directly finding apartments. Unless you have the time and energy to track down an owner direct property, brokers actually find your unit in a time consuming orgy of phone calls--after you make contact with them. New web based data services and business process outsourcing may change this picture in many markets in the near future. Things to look for: 1. Date/Time Stamps: When was the listing you are looking at posted? Recently updated listings are a good thing, but if hundreds of listings claim to have been updated that morning, beware. Sites may be 'updated daily' but each listing's availability isn't checked daily at most agencies. 2. If it sounds too good to be true....Sometimes less is more. Portals which boast of thousands and thousands of listings are likely to list the same widely advertised apartment building properties over and over again. (with no address information, aggregate portals tend to fill up with redundant listings from multiple agencies.) 3. Third party verification: If you can find a service in your city which provides third party verfication (IE, the data is provided by someone who isn't a realtor) use that service. Avoid pay services, however--these tend to be lists of widely advertised apartment building properties as well. 4. Help Police Craigslist: Flag brokered properties posted in the 'ower direct' section of Craigslist. Until better third-party data sources come on-line, Craig's List is going to be one of the best data sources in town. Do your bit to keep it as clean as possible. (Again, without address information, Craig's List fills up with redundant properties too, especially in the broker section.)
You can't, but it's not your computer's fault -- it's the fault of the Web site itself. It's being hacked from the outside to redirect automatically all of its users to the "unscrupulous" site. I suggest you stop going to that site. It will eventually notice the error and fix it.
What can I do as Internet Explorer doesn't work well with WikiAnswers?
Internet explorer is not as "fast, effective and state of the art" as Microsoft claim it is. It's actually the most buggiest, sluggish browser of all time - and it (unnecessarily) uses far much more of your CPU than most other browsers. IE is also one of the weakest browsers in terms of security, failing to block most malware-infected connections trying to come through to your PC.
So, yeah - unfortunately the IE glory days are over. The top browser these days is Chrome, with Firefox in close second and Opera in third.
Anyway, here's some steps you can try of you still wish to keep using IE, in order that they're best followed:
Java
Is your Java up-to-date? Check The first link in the related links below. That link to the official Java website will scan your PC in less than 40 seconds to test your Java version. If it's outdated they'll offer you a new version to download.
Latest Version
Do you have the latest version of IE9? To check this:
- Go to the Start menu
- Click All Programs. Click Windows Update
- In the left-hand side, click Check For Updates
- If any are found, click View Available Updates
- If there is an IE update, check the box then click Install
Add-ons
Disable all of your add-ons. Including any extra toolbars you've added.
Add-ons sometimes collect information about your browsing history (for advertising purposes), when they do this, your connection becomes slightly slow. If the browser works better after disabling them, then one-by-one turn each add-on back on again, until you find the one that makes your browser behave erratically. Uninstall it. Leave it uninstalled.
Virus. Hijackers
When's the last time you actually scanned your PC for threats? And I mean manually started the scan yourself, not left it to the auto-scan? Some malicious little critters like to play around with browsers, for a giggle. Manually run a full virus scan and wait for it to finish. Kill anything malicious the scan finds.
If you lack a virus scan, I recommend downloading Microsoft Security Essentials (free) and AVG (the free version).
Malware
Believe it or not - virus scans, or the majority of them, absolutely suck when it comes to detecting malware. Even the expensive ones. Virus scans specialise in viruses, hence their name. Which is why I tend to laugh when a virus-scan claims to "remove 100% of malware". No. Just no.
Malware can cause browsers to behave erratically. They don't cause as much damage as viruses, their main purpose is to spam-advertise or annoy you. Pretty pointless.
Download the free Malware Bytes (see second link below). Install it then run a scan. It may take a while to scan, but it is really worth it, you'll probably discover exactly what I mean by anti-viruses being sucky.
Conflicting anti-virus
Do you have McAfee or Nortons by any chance? These anti-viruses like to block things that aren't harmful. From webpages, links, buttons and even your entire router(!).
Do a little test - turn off your anti-virus. Don't worry, it won't be off for long and if something tries to attack you, the built-in Windows Defender will kick in.
Try IE with the anti-virus switched off. Does it perform better now? If the issues are caused by the anti-virus, you'll have to contact the support department of your chosen product. They will probably send you a one-use program to download and run which should fix it. Don't forget to turn it back on again.
Explorer Settings
There may be a conflict in your explorer settings. This can be fixed by a quick fix-it scan from Microsoft,
- Go to the third link in the related links below
- Click 'Windows'
- In the box below, click 'Connect to the internet or networks'
- Then below that box, click the green button next to 'Fix Internet Explorer issues to make IE fast, safe and stable'
- Run the thingy that just downloaded. Any problems it detects should be fixed automatically
Check your connection
Some internet service providers are sneaky chappies - they like to undercut you by a few MB/ps (megabytes per second) to save money for themselves - and this is difficult to notice. Unless you know how to notice it.
Pop onto the forth link below. Then click Begin Test. It's free.
Wait for the results (and watch the fancy animations if you like). Compare the results of the test to the specifications of your internet package - if it's under what you're actually paying for, phone your internet provider and call them lots of names. Then tell them to fix it.
If all else fails
Sit in a corner rocking back and forth while muttering gibberish in a high-pitched voice.
Or just click the fifth link below to download (the much better) Chrome browser. You choose.
You may need to log in/register to see the links.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of internet explorer?
Answer: Mozilla screws up rendering very badly on a wide cross-section of sites and images. Some forum software gets messed up so badly it's barely usable, if at all.
The security is actually a myth. Firefox has been proven as vulnerable as IE. With Javascript exploits now abounding, Firefox is powerless to stop them. Enabling the noscript plugin actually disables the biggest majority of your browsing experience. Secure, perhaps, but at what cost?
Numerous exploits have gone unpatched for months, even years at a time.
Consistently beta software. The fact that's it's open source makes it relatively easy to code exploits.
Incompatibility with numerous multimedia/interactive content plugins unless you use the IE plugin, which renders Firefox every bit as vulnerable as IE7.
Plugins have been proven on numerous occasions to have security flaws, and provide rogue programmers an easy ability to code exploits into plugins (some plugins have been found to have such exploits in them).
Memory leak issues which get worse the more tabs you have open.
Many users report frequent crashing.
No speed advantage. In fact some users report slower rendering speeds than Opera or IE7.
In short, for the most part Firefox is a piece of crap, especially from a web developers point of view, but also for the user. However, Google invests over $50 million a year into Mozilla in an effort to dethrone IE7 as the king of browsers. It has a vested interest due to the Google searches, etc, coded into Mozilla.
Solution: 1: Create restore point and take registry backup.
2: Delete all temp files.
3: Delete all unwanted software's and security software's from add/remove program.
4: Disable all unwanted services from startup and then remove from registry.
5: Reset internet explorer and then register all .dll files.
6: Scan with spyware removal malwarebyte, hijackthis and trojon removal.
7: Check windows update if found and then download and install.
8: Defrag C: drive
9: Restart the computer, and then check it.
