When was the internet released to the public?

This is not an easy question to answer. The Internet wasn't built so much as it developed and grew from the initial Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) idea of the ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). ARPANET was initialized September 1969 at UCLA, and connected to Stanford Research Institute, UC Santa Barbara, and the University of Utah by October. Bob Kahn from DARPA was perhaps the first to actually suggest the open network architecture idea of the "Internet" in 1972. Working with Vint Cerf in 1973, Kahn began working on the protocol designs that would make Internetting possible. Kahn/Cerf's resulting TCP/IP was initiated in 1973 by contract from DARPA to Ray Tomlinson at BBN, Vint Cerf at Stanford, and Peter Kirstein at UCL, and brought on line later that year.

So, the closest we can get to an actual date is that incident in 1973. Access sites were limited then, but it was publically available.

How does cost affect revenue and profitability?

There could be a variety of answers to this question, depending on what perspectives you use to answer them. ( accounting, economics etc ). Using my understanding of Economics, it's important to first have an equation to link all these variables. Profit = Revenue - Cost. This is called the profit equation, where profit equals revenue minus cost. Revenue is the sales that you obtain from day to day sales. It's expressed in a monetary value. For example, if I am able to sell 10 hotdogs today at US dollar 5 for each hotdog, then my revenue for the day will be US Dollars 50. However this is my revenue and not my profit, as I incurred cost while earning this revenue. Lets say the cost of this business is US Dollars 3. If this is the case the profit will be 50 - 3 which equals 47. Hence profit is 47. This equation shows that an increase in cost, can reduce the profit. At some instances, the increase in cost can increase revenue, depending on the price that you are selling and also the quantity sold. This will depend on how large the increase is. Generally if Revenue is more than cost, there is profit, while if Cost is more than revenue that is lost. If Revenue equals Cost, there is break even. This means that the profit is zero. Hope this helps. (cheong@bgymail.gd.cn)

How do you fix the cause of the computer or Internet Explorer to freeze up when you click on a link in email?

Clicking on a link in an E-Mail is a dangerous thing to do unless you are absolutely sure it is safe. The fact that it froze should sound an alarm. If your computer exhibits no other strange behavior you are probably OK. If it does I suggest you do a virus and spy-ware scan with the programs you have. If you have no spyware scanner, I suggest a free program called AdAware.

many times a user must click a link in Email to verify themselves. I'm having this problem too and I'm having it with links that I know are trustworthy, they work on other peoples computers. "Don't click on links" is not the answer to this question... unfortunately I don't know what is.

What continent has the best access to the Internet and what has the worst?

The internet was first created in the United States, and it still serves as the central core of the internet. North America has, by far, the most connections and largest connections to the rest of the world. In terms of population internet access, there are a number of individual countries outside North America where exceptionally high percentages of their population have internet access, but it is unlikely that any continent overall has a higher percentage population with internet access than North America.

As far as the worst connection, that depends on your definition of worst. The continent of Antarctica certainly has the smallest and worst total connection to the internet, however the entire population of Antarctica is no more than a handful of scientists who each generally have relatively large internet access. On the other hand Africa has a much larger overall connection to the internet, for a vastly larger population. Africa is quite likely the continent where they largest percentage of the population has no access to the internet at all.
