Midway Island is a product of volcanic activity and is estimated to have formed around 28 million years ago. Its creation is linked to the movement of the Pacific tectonic plate over a hot spot in the Earth's mantle.

It is possible, in theory, to exist artificially, but since the presence of men in the natural environment would be required to facilitate human reproduction and the continuity of humans (male or female) on such an island, it could not exist beyond a single generation.

So, not possible in nature. Theoretically possible with some type of artificial technology or process such as, migration from the island for procreation purposes, or importation of sperm for use in gender-selective, artificial-insemination procedures.

There was a nation, existing only in myth and legend, known as Sarmatia, which was home to the female warriors, known as Amazons. It wasn't an island, however.

New Zealand controls the Cook Islands. The Cook Islands is a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand, which means it governs its domestic affairs but relies on New Zealand for defense and foreign relations.

The weather in Tenerife is currently quite pleasant being partly cloudy and with some sunshine. It is 72 degrees with 60% humidity and 18mph winds. One can see the most up to date forecast on Yahoo.

The peninsula between Ungava Bay and Hudson Bay is the Ungava Peninsula. It is located in northern Quebec, Canada, and is known for its rugged terrain, tundra vegetation, and being home to several Inuit communities. The region is also significant for its wildlife, including caribou, polar bears, and various bird species.

Fiji's climate is tropical. Overall, temperatures between November and April (summer) are slightly higher than the winter months, as is the humidity and the resulting tropical downpours. Light cotton clothes are advisable at all times - only between May and October (winter) will a light sweater be needed for nights and early mornings.

However, the weather in Fiji varies considerably between island regions. This is due to the dominant south-east trade winds which traps clouds over the mountains on the south-eastern sides of the larger islands - rainfall in Suva is much higher than in Nadi on the western, leeward side of the main island which is good if you want to experience the vibrant rainforest but not so good for sun-bathing.

Summer - December to April

Summer begins early in December and lasts until April. During this time it is hot and humid (32oC by day) with bright sunny mornings and predictable late afternoon downpours on the larger islands, although the small offshore islands often miss these downpours altogether. This 'wet season' is a good time to come to experience the lush vibrancy of the rainforest - rivers are full, waterfalls gushing and the hills of the larger islands become refreshingly green. The down side is the high humidity, the increase in mosquitoes and the possibility of tropical storms or mightier cyclones.

Winter - May to November

By the end of April, Fiji experiences a more moderate climate. Temperatures are comfortably warm by day (27oC) and pleasantly cool at night (19oC) when a light jumper may be necessary. By midwinter (July), many parts of the country welcome rain - the hills around Nadi turn brown and water shortages occur on the smaller islands. However, on the eastern sides of the larger islands, notably Suva, Savusavu and Taveuni, rainfall is never far away keeping the air clear and scenery green year round.

Some notable landforms in Africa include the Sahara Desert, the Nile River, the Atlas Mountains, and the Great Rift Valley. These landforms are important geographical features that shape the landscape and environment of the continent.

The Hawaiian Islands were each formed over a hot spot in the Earth's crust, creating a volcano. As the Pacific Plate has moved to the northwest, new islands have been created from that same hot spot over time.

An archipelago consists of a chain or cluster of islands grouped closely together in a body of water, such as a sea or ocean.

Islands do not float. Islands are the result of mounains or hills that go above thse surface of the water, which sit on the ocean floor.

There are 137 islands in the Hawaiian chain, but only seven are considered the main islands. These main islands are Oahu, Maui, Hawaii (the Big Island), Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, and Niihau.

The formation of the Hawaiian Islands is associated with a hotspot boundary. A hotspot is a location where magma rises to the surface through the mantle, creating a volcanic island chain, like the Hawaiian Islands.

Aruba's desert-like conditions are primarily due to its location in the rain shadow of the Andes Mountains. The prevailing trade winds that blow from the northeast push moisture away from the island, resulting in limited rainfall. Additionally, Aruba's small size and low elevation contribute to its arid climate.

Examples of three major island arcs are the Aleutians, the Kuriles, Japan, and the Philippines. They clustered around the northern and western borders of the Pacific Plate like a necklace.

If i had an exotic island i would name it Exotica I would name it Sierra 117, like one of my planets (in spore) I would call it the Island of Annuchka ( pronounced A-noosh-ka)

That geographic point is located in the Van Diemen Gulf, Northwest Territories, Australia. The nearest island to that point appears to be Gardangarl Island.

Some people say that Australia is the biggest island, but others say that Greenland is because Australia doesn't count as an island, being a continent. Greenland is in the north hemisphere and Australia is on the southern hemisphere.

Geographers refer to a long chain of islands like Japan as an archipelago.

The Nation known as the Federated States of Micronesia consists of four states: Chuuk, Yap, Kosrae, and Pohnpei and is located among the islands in the SW Pacific. Each state is made up of multiple small islands spread in a large area of ocean and each historically has its own time zone:

* Chuuk's time zone is called Truk Time, since Chuuk used to be called Truk. The time zone is abbreviated as TRUT. It corresponds with the GMT/UTC Zone +10. * Yap's time zone is known as Yap Time, abbreviated as YAPT, also GMT/UTC +10. * Kosrae has Kosrae Time, abbreviated as KOST, corresponding to GMT/UTC + 11. * Pohnpei's time zone is Ponape Time, with the abbreviation of PONT. Pohnpei was formerly known as Ponape. This time zone is equivalent to GMT/UTC + 11. Daylight Savings Time is not observed.

Palikir is the Nation's Capital City located on Pohnpei, the island formerly known as Ponape, which is the most developed island of the Federation. The airport is located on a small island just off the main island of Pohnpei. The population on Pohnpei of around 34,000 is the largest of the states. It is growing in popularity with world surfers who consider the Palikir Pass (aka P-Pass) as one of the best reef pass surfs in the world. The coral reef is also well known by SCUBA enthusiasts and fishermen.

Chuuk, which means "mountain" in Chuukese, was Japan's main base in the South Pacific Theatre in WW2 when it was known as Truk. It is known as one of the world's best shipwreck diving destinations as well as for its brightly colored corals.

Yap, known as Wa'ab to the locals, is the state farthest West and is made up of islands that stretch over 600 miles across the Pacific. It is known as the Island of Stone Money, because they still use stone money for some transactions. It is well known by divers as a place with a population of giant manta rays always available to divers who want to swim with them.

Kosrae is farthest east and incorporates multiple atolls. It is unspoiled and rarely visited. One of its geographical features is a mountain with a shape that has earned the island the name of "The Island of the Sleeping Lady", when viewed from out at sea, it looks like a woman lying down. How to say thank you in Kosraean: "Kulo".

Signs point to 1,500 islands. And most likely true counting all the beautiful uninhabited island and atolls in the FSM. But, there are four main islands that make up the Federation. They are, starting from east to west, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk, and Yap.

There is no Honolulu Island.

Honolulu is a city on the Island of Oahu.

The large group of islands in the South Pacific is known as Oceania. These islands are classified as either the high islands or the low islands.
