lower the deck all the way down. at the rear of the deck you will see a plastic wingnut on either side. remove blades using vice grips to loosen the bolt. you will needto use a shop rag with your free hand to hold the blade in place so you dont cut yourself. next remove wingnuts in rear. there is a bar in the front-most part of the deck held in place with a cotterpin. remove pin to remove bar. depending on your model of mower, that should be it. if not look at the deck frame for any other nuts or bolts.

John Deere does not advise changing trans fluid on the lx176 for two (2) reasons.

(1) The possibility of contaminants getting in the resevoir.

(2) The system has to be burped(bleeded) like you would car brakes. If you are unfimiliar

with this process, you could be left with an immovable tractor or a substantial cost

from a dealer to correct the problem.

You are better off just topping off with wd10x30 motor oil.

Talk to your john deere dealer but they probably wont be free. If you're looking for older manuals for antique machinery try tractor shows or toy shows. Somebody has to have 'em someplace.(Again, not for free.)

As far as I know tractors in any state do not have titles, that paperwork being reserved for cars which may trade hands or be stolen much more often than tractors.

If you know nothing it's not a good idea to fool around with fuel pumps on a turbo diesel. Take it to an expert who knows what he's doing, or to a Deere agency.

I'm having the same issue. I'm trying to replace my front axle and I need to remove the muffler to get to the axle bolt. Please help.

I recently replaced the front axle on my STX38 so I took off the muffler as well. The muffler's heat shield needs to come off first, I think there's just two bolts holding that in place on the front of it. If I remember correctly, there were 4 bolts total securing the muffler. There are two bolts towards the front of the muffler that connect vertically to the body of the mower, these need to be removed. If you look at the very top of the muffler where it connects to the engine you'll see another two bolts that need to be removed. I had a tough time getting these two completely out since mine were a bit rusted but they did eventually come off. Once all these bolts are removed, I had to wiggle the muffler out of the bottom of the mower. For the people doing front axle replacement - once the muffler is removed you should have access to the bolt securing the axle.
