It depends on the computer model, it would require you to disassemble the laptop swap video cards then reassemble the laptop and this would be likely damage the computer. I too have looked into this.

There are a few possible reasons. If you really mean "on" the screen, not "in" the screen, it could be something pressing against it - such as a plastic keyboard protector "skin" if your screen closes tight against your keyboard. Any screen cleaner will remove it, though you'll have to repeat the process periodically. If it's in the screen itself, the most likely cause is failure of the control circuits for that row of pixels. (Each row has a control circuit, as does each column; the row and column control circuits cooperate to set the three color intensities of each pixel.) There is no inexpensive fix for this. This could be caused by many things which are beyond the average users ability to correct. But there are a couple things you can try which may get you going again.

Re-seat the RAM. Laptops live a rough life, they tend to get banged around a bit. It is not uncommon for one of the systems RAM sticks to get jostled loose. A loose RAM stick can have all sorts of odd effects on your system, including random restarts. With the system unplugged & battery removed, take off the panel which covers the RAM sticks, and remove the RAM & put it right back in.

You'd be surprised how often that works.

Your OS may be corrupted. The only good way to test this is to load another OS. You can wipe the hard disk & reinstall your current OS, or you can download one of the many Linux distros which are able to boot from CD (this is called a "live CD"). Ubuntu is a very good distro for this purpose.

Laptop LCD screens are expensive to replace once they are damaged. On eBay, Laptop replacement screens are readily available for just about every make and model. But usually, they cost more than simply buying a new laptop ... and on some laptops, screen replacement is very tricky and the LCD panels can easily be broken during installation. It is not recommended for anyone who is not experienced doing this type of repair work (due to the cost if you break the new LCD screen when installing it).

A simple solution is to plug a regular external monitor into your laptop's monitor connection. (I have done this). Of course, your laptop is now just a desktop.

Instead of trying to buy a new laptop display screen, a new laptop is in order for most people.

I just bought mine for 1900$ its got a 15.5 inch screen i7 processor (most recent) 4gb of memory and 540gb on the hard drive. This is one of the higher end models, if you go with the the 13 inch screen and a i5 processor you can probably get one around 1200-1400.

Personally, I have found they do not last as long as a desktop computer. Many individuals I know say they're laptop lasted approximately two years. I have found the same with my own which lasted about two and a half years. In addition, the fact that you can transport them easily makes them more susceptible to damage with the constant moving and carry.
