What are the advantages and disadvantages for the netbook?

the advantages of a netbook are:

it's light weight

its ideal for travelers who don't want to carry too much heavy things

Netbooks (usually) don't have CD/DVD drives, are much smaller screen size. But they are much more portable, lighter etc.

Netbooks are much smaller; they all come preloaded with the OS so there is no need for you to install it. These are intended as ultraportable machines and compromises are made for their small size. The screens are smaller, the processor tends to be less powerful and the disk drive tends to be smaller capacity and usually solid-state. They also lack an optical drive since there is no room in the case for one.

I am using Intel atom based processors Netbook and it is a great little piece of technology, lightweight and easy to take anywhere, and is much lesser price as compare with Laptop and with a great battery life.

How do you make your laptop faster?

By going into 'Run' in the start bar then type in msconfig into 'Run' click on programs at the top then disable all the programs that don't need to be started first thing like Itunes, Microsoft office ect.. then it should run faster.

Can you buy new screens for laptops?

Yes, its easily can be replaced. Check the service manual of your Laptop for full instructions and pictures. However I can assure that most of the laptop screens are fairly easy to replace (cover strip, keyboard, bezel all come off fairly easily, then just a few more screws and swap the cable to the new screen, then put it together - this model comes apart quite nicely). We almost always order screens from internet, since the quality is perfectly fine and you can find a decent price from a seller near you. I doubt you'll spend more than $150, and you can also have the opportunity to upgrade to a higher resolution screen if you want.

Is there such thing as an external graphics card for laptops?

This is similar to a question that was asked earlier last month-

AS far as I know there are two companies which make external graphic cards for laptops. One is Asus, which makes the XG Station. The other is MSI which designed the Luxium. Both cards have their individual enclosures which have sound & USB connections. Both need individual power supplies and connect to the laptop via the ExpressCard slot.

I'm not sure of the specs on either card so I'd recommend doing some research.

How do you put a wallpaper on your HP computer?

Mouse on my laptop wont work?

If you mouse has stopped working on your laptop you might of disabled it by accident. If you have function keys on your laptop(Usually a blue key that says Fn) Look on the F keys(very top row of keys) for a little picture that looks like a touch pad and hold down your function key and press that. That should re enable it if you accidently disabled it. If it really did stop working you might be able to get it replaced by contacting your laptop manufacturer and see if they cover it. If not the Geek Squad could probably fix it. I don't really like them but use them as a last resort.

Are Alienware laptops recommended?

Okay, I don't actually own an Alienware, but I do want one, through out the net, I been seeing people talk about Alienware being trash and custom computers are better, but the people who actually 'OWN' and Alienware says that they have no kinds of problems and they love their computer to death. It put me to a point wondering but I guess it seem to be more obvious that people who say Alienware sucks, most likely are about 80% of that community don't even own a Alienware, but from people who actually 'OWN' Alienwares, you would mainly get like a 9/10 of their systems being told to have no problems, but the one and only thing about and Alienware I believe is to be it's price really, that's pretty much the only draggy part, so yeah, I would say that a Alienware is good. But if you want more info, I recommend you talk to the people who actually do own Alienware computers.

After Alienware sold to Dell they are trash. I own one and never again well I buy one. There computers are good but the help and service from them and warranty is the worse thing ever. It is not worth your time to even look at them for a computer. They cost so much and offer so little to help you in any way. My buddy can break off his lcd screen off his HP and send it in and they well fix it for free. But for Alienware if your keys happens to break off you have to pay to fix it even if you had no control over it. Also if there is anything you did like drop it and the case cracked and nothing else broke and a month later something happens that was unrelated you have to pay to have the case fixed before they even look at it. So if you are looking at buying alienware please don't go somewhere else to find a nice computer.

I bought an Alienware PC because I'd been hearing for years about how good they were. Mine sucks and the service is worse. I will never buy another Alien/Dell PC and I encourage anyone reading this to avoid them at all costs. I bought a Gateway laptop for 1/3 the price that was nearly as good straight out the box than what I bought from Alien. Plus I haven't been plagued with the countless crashes, hours on hours on HOURS on the phone with tech support, tearing the whole thing down and putting it back together only so they can send a tech to the house after 3 months who couldn't fix it either. Then send it to their repair facility so they could replace the motherboard (which they tech had already done) and then the power supply. Oh and wipe my C drive with all the data I couldn't get to because my $3500 paperweight wouldn't even boot up.

A different take:

I've owned many types of computers, where I placed great care in the product. this experience with Alienware has been a joke. Maybe it was better before Dell bought them, but now it is aweful. I have had this for about 8 months, and:

1) The hinge is broken due to an engineering problem (Google "m11x hinge"). I've been waiting for them to fix it/address it for weeks to months now. I've spent many unnecessary hours waiting to talk to CS or getting no useful help from Customer Service. I was hung up on twice by the their service team.

2) The computer shuts off on its own (even after turning off the accelerator). I spent hours trying to fix it with their service team. the technician they sent said he was confused and could not help me and to 'call back' to open another service issue.

3) Even when purchasing the thing, it was close to a 3 hour process over the phone.

4) The computer feels 'junky'. The parts (side panels), hinge, stoppers, etc are made of a cheaper plastics, glues, and have already noticeably begun to fall apart.

5) I scheduled for the technician to come out, but the never came. that includes taking a whole day off, so I could be here for the 5 hour window they indicated.

As context, I had, cared for, and used a Dell XPS for 5 years straight with no issues due to my mishandling of the product. This is a clearly sub-quality product.

Buy another computer, and I would advise not an Alienware. It is really not worth it.

Alternative Answer:

Alienwares are typically expensive and overrated. You can build one yourself for way less or you can buy one pre-built from sites like ibuypower or cyberpowerpc. I would not recommend an alienware to anyone. If you're going to buy an alienware to game ethier build a pc or buy a console.

What is the best computer for middle school and high school students?

Hardly any studies at those levels require immense processing power. If you go for new, even the cheapest ones should be fast enough.

A laptop's mobility is something I myself appreciate a great deal. If you want the least hassle, go with Windows, I suggest getting either a new laptop (which will probably ship with Windows 7), or a used laptop with at least 1 GB of memory, preferably 2. A computer with that much memory installed most likely has a fast enough processor. If you buy a used computer, you will most likely have to install Windows 7 yourself or have someone do it for you. A used computer may include a license (pre-installed or not) for Windows Vista, which is OK too, although a bit less refined.

Ubuntu is a good choice if you want a Linux (free). It's very user friendly and it's got plenty of software to get along with, but for a novice user, I'd still recommend Windows for compatibility reasons.

Of course there are Macs too. The price gap between PCs and Macs has diminished significantly, but there's still a whole lot of air in the price if you think about the computer solely in terms of performance.

Used desktops can be very cheap if you don't care much about gaming performance. Desktops have better expandability (not very significant for study purposes though), but they usually consume more power. If you want a big screen, a desktop is not a necessity: virtually all laptops can be connected to an external display (and external keyboard&mouse too, if necessary).

A new computer, at least if branded, usually comes with some kind of support package for the warranty period. If a problem occurs on a used computer, you'll either have to have some expertise/interest yourself, or someone you can rely on. Commercial support is naturally available for used computers too, but might be a little more time-consuming than getting support from the original manufacturer.

Difference between laptop and desktop computer?

One difference between a desktop and a laptop is that a laptop is portable while a desktop is stationary. Laptops are usually smaller and can run off of battery power while a desktop is bigger and has to be plugged in to work.

What was the average cost of a computer in 2010 in US dollars?

It could be anywhere from $100 to $800000000 depending on OS, manufacturing company, where it is sold, and many other factors!

Really, if you want to get one price, you'll have to be a lot more specific. i.e. "What is the price of the latest(in 2010) (Manufacturing company)(Computer OS) at (Store Name)?"

Is Dell one of the best laptops?

It depends on what your old laptop/computer is and what the new Dell laptop is.

What is the Best laptop for a highschool student?

I would say either an hp or Dell, they have some good laptops and dell offers

cool designs and colors for the outside skin. If your willing to spend more money you

should go with a macbook. But i personally don't think a 13 year old kid should have

a macbook. Check out Dell.com and Hp.com and you can narrow your choices down

there. I am getting either a hp or Dell. It mainly depends on what you would use it

for.

Does the MacBook Pro have an alarm?

I don't know of any thing in the MacOS or standard applications that you can set an alarm.

There are many free MacApps that will do it tho.

Either go to the MacApp Store and search for one or you can just do a Yahoo/Google search for a Mac compatible one also.

How do you find your laptop personal identification number?

There should be a manufacturer label on back or side of your computer (or bottom in case of a laptop), this should have the serial number information which helps the manufacturer track information about its production and sale. Typically it will have "S/N:" before the start of serial number. It is different from the operating system license number or product key which is on computers with Microsoft Windows.

However, the easiest way of finding the serial number is the following:

Run Command Prompt by typing "cmd" (without the quotes) in the search bar and hitting enter.

Type in the following (again, without the quotes): "wmic bios get serialnumber"

Make sure there isn't a space between the words serial and number. Hit enter.

It will output two lines, the first will say "SerialNumber" and the next line will have your serial number on it!

How long do laptop batteries last before you have to get a replacement one?

It depends largly on the person using the laptop. It also depends on what the laptop is functioning like. If it is used for business and is used nearly daily I would recommend having a fairly nice one that has nice RAM, good Operating System, nicely functioning software, connection, etc. So if I was recommending a buy of a new laptop, either for regular or business use it would be either a Compaq, HP (Compaq is owned by HP, so there are only about 2 laptops on the site,) Dell, or a Sony Vaio. But considering your question, generally, if it is a home computer used maybe 4 times a week you probably want to get a new one in about 3 years. For business you should have a nice laptop anyway so, generally, I would say that probably every 3 years as well. You may need to upgrade earlier, though, so, in which case, I would say that you should get one with at minimum the following: 1 GB RAM Windows XP DVD/CD Rewritable Disc Drive (Optional) 3+ USB Drives 802.11g Wireless (Virtually any built in wireless card) Pentium 4 (Intel) 17+ inch screen Output to a monitor Etc.

How do you convince your parents to let you get a laptop when im 9 years old and already have a dell that works fine?

Why do you need with a new laptop when you already have a working computer? It seems you are in that certain phase in life where you want everything and don't care how much they cost. I mean, what do you do on a computer at 9 years old other than play small games that don't take up much time? Of course, I have no idea what you do on the computer and if you have any good reasons for wanting a laptop, so I am offering you a few simple solutions.

1. You can tell them about the EEE PC. The computers are fairly (really) cheep, and come in extremely portable and small 7 in models. Plus they're not made by Dell.

2. If your parents bring up the argument of already having a computer, tell them that Dell makes bad computers and it will break in about a month and when you call customer support, your call is forwarded to cheap labor in India where you will have to wait 2 hours to get no help at all.

3. Install Linux on the desktop and you have a brand new and much better computer.

4. Save up your own money and buy your own computer instead of leeching precious money off your parents in the current state of the economy. You need to learn to work hard to get what you want. You can't live off your parents forever.

5. Live with what you have.

6. Create your own computer like Steve Wozniak.

The 6 examples above are hard. ;) This ONE and only worked for me! :D

1. BEG YOUR PARENTS UNTIL THEY GIVE IN! Ha, ha, worked for me. ;)

Which laptop is best for an incoming high school freshman MacBook Air or MacBook Pro?

It all depends on what you need it for.

If most of what your doing is taking notes, web browsing, word proccessing, etc, then the MacBook Air should be fine.

If your an enginering student, doing HD video editing or other heavy processer work then the MacBook Pro would be better for the long run.

With the newer Apple laptops you will need to max out the ram as you won't be able to upgrade later as the ram is permanently install.

What is advantages and disadvantages of Distributed System?

Cluster systems are ultimately a brilliant discovery to the world of programming. The advantages are network unity, and the capability of managing work from different locations. They are cost effective, they are flexible. The disadvantage is all computers connected are easily effected by one malfunction. Since there is data sharing involved, it may make it easier to breech security efforts from one information system to the other.

Can you find a laptop at Walmart for under 200?

If you find a laptop at Walmart for under $200, its not going to be too good, my advice, if you're on a budget, try shopping online, whether on computer manufacturer's websites (they often offer special discounts for online purchases) or on used product websites like eBay or amazon.

But you need to have done your "homework" about what you need in the way of a computer.

Also with shopping online comes the added cost of shipping, so unless there is free shipping you could find a better deal at your local computer store. Plus you have the added feature of having your questions about the computer answered in "real time".

Buying locally puts your dollars into the local economy and not into some out of state computer giant.

What is the multiplication sign on a laptop keyboard?

there is no seperate multiplication key present in the laptop keyboard. we can use multiplication key by pressing= SHIFT+8

If you are using the calculator in windows, the multiplication key is the star. *

You can use 'shift' '8'. Desk top key boards have a separate * symbol somewhere above the numeric pad.

Some laptops have a function where you can turn the right hand side of the qwerty keyboard into a number pad. When in this mode there is a *. look for the extra writing at the bottom edge of the keys, usually in dark ink.

Where is the built-in microphone on a dell laptop?

Yes, there is. It is a internal mike in that speaker bar just above the central power button. However, the mike is not of a high quality. You will get a lot of feedback. If you are doing any recording or gaming, I recommend getting an external or use the mike of an external webcam.
