I had the t500 with switchable graphics. In short the machine is a power horse and their is good support available from Lenovo but I found the display to be rather dull and feel it should have been brighter. I sold it later due to this annoyance.

If buying you should try and evaluate a specific model as their are many model types of T500 with many specifications.

A VGA port is a video connector that supports older monitors and graphic output devices. It differs from a DVI connector in that it is not a digital signal. Your typical VGA port is blue in color on your video card and the cable connector are also the same shade of blue.

You cannot build a laptop, it is too complicated, you cannot buy in exact sized case for your requirements. Also the parts are hard to find when compared to building a desktop.

Desktop's are better in terms of power than laptops and you get more for your money. Plus desktops are buildable.

EDIT: Do not listen to the above moron. Building a laptop is just as easy as building a desktop, but it does require you knowing how to do it. It is a very simple process, you buy the case and then a MoBo that fits said case, then the rest goes in. Super easy.

First of all you'll have to figure out if the problem is related to the laptop display or there is something wrong with the motherboard.

Test your laptop with an external monitor.

If video on both internal and external screens is bad, most likely your problem is related to the motherboard or the video card. It's possible that you have a software related issue. Before you replace any hardware, try reinstalling the video driver or even reimaging the hard drive.

If external video is fine but video on the internal screen is bad, you have a problem with the laptop display panel.

In this case try

- reseating the video cable on both motherboard and LCD screen

- replacing the video cable

- finally replacing the LCD screen

1. Plug the AC power adapter in a wall outlet.

2. Connect the AC Power adaptor supplied with charger to the DC in jack.

3. "Status" indicator shows RED when the charger is ready and "Charger" indicator shows flashing Green when waiting for battery pack.

4. Slide battery pack in the charger and "Charger" indicator goes RED when charging.

5. "Charger" indicator show RED and GREEN alternatively when battery pack has more than 90% charged.

6.When the battery pack is fully charged, the "Charger" indicator shows a steady green.

7. After the battery pack fully charged, slide the battery pack out.

8. Unplug DC power, "CHARGE" and "STATUS" indicators go out.

It could also be that the battery has problems and doesn't work correctly you should see also if the battery is put on correctly and if it is from the some company as the old one... it couldn't be the laptop because the problem started when you bought the new battery.

Dell has a chip in its AC adapter checked by a chip in the laptop. The wiring is poor and there are lots of reports of this failing (uses the pin in the center of the plug). Dell bios will slow down the CPU if it "sees" a non-Dell adapter - mine changes from 1600mhz to 600mhz and it will NOT charge the battery. Many people (including me) blame the battery and buy new ones, many, including me, have bought replacement DELL ac adapters and not fixed the problem. The chip in the laptop can get damaged easily and claim all adapters are non-dell. The fix? Dell says buy a new motherboard. All because they built in this bogus circuit and bios code to force people to buy their adapters. Did I say I use a non-Dell adapter? Nope, mine is real and my battery is dead.. It's my last Dell - ever. (there are programs to bypass the bios to put the CPU speed back where it is supposed to be - I have not found anything to make my laptop charge the battery.

There are companies which sell separate battery chargers to charge outside the laptop. Maybe they are owned by Dell, too? HA!

Not in Virginia but but computers and supplies under 250 are tax free I North Carolina. I'm not sure about other states.
