The Brother 885cw uses a wireless system called 802.11b/g. Apple uses this system in the AirPort family of devices. Some Macs have AirPort built in. For those that do not you need to buy a compatible AirPort device, such as AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express, or an AirPort Card.

After installing the AirPort software, an icon will appear in the menubar that looks like a set of waves arcing up. Click on the icon to discover other AirPort or 802.11b/g devices within range. Select the device or network you wish to connect to. It is possible to set up your own network, and have other devices connect to that. You should select a secure level to bar unwanted users from accessing your network without permission.

Depending on the security level of the device or network, a connection can be established and the device or network will appear in the Finder. Depending on the type of device, it may appear as a disk drive or a folder. It may appear as a menu containing possible interactions.

The software for the Brother MFC 885cw must be installed prior to connection. Brother software has not been 'Mac Friendly' in the past. However, Brother is trying to improve support for Macs. Drivers are availble here:

Access to the printer should be possible through the Brother icon which appears in the top menu bar.

The printer should appear as one of the printers in the System Preferences 'Print and Fax.' Some preferences such as default printer and default page size can be set there. If the software installed a control panel, additional preferences can be set there.

As of version 7.x of MSN Messenger for Mac - Microsoft still does not support video for consumer users with @hotmail, @live, or @msn accounts. Microsoft has demonstrated a beta of Messenger 8 for Mac that WILL include cross-platform video-chat capabilities. It's expected to be released later in 2009. There are alternatives to Messenger such as Adium and amsn that do support video. (See links below)

On your MacBook or iMac, just click once on iTunes. This program is built into every Apple computer (regardless). If you are having problems, Apple.com has a great Q&A section under Support tab.

The iTunes application is free for both Mac & Windows, however the music itself is mostly a paid on a per song/album basis. That said, Apple does give away one song every week.

There are several ways to do so:

1) Use mouse and drag the cursor to the edge of the open window. Drag till the windows is resized accordingly. You can resize the window by a side edge also adjusting the width (same with top & bottom). Corner allows to adjust both sizes at once.

2) A Window on Mac has three colorful buttons on the top left of every window. Among them, the green button (indicated by +) sign automatically resize the window fit to screen.

3)Make use of full screen. To make a window full screen, press the two arrows in the top right corner. The window will open in a new screen so that you don't lose whatever else is open on your desktop. To exit fullscreen mode:

Your music library is normally stored in a folder called iTunes Music which is placed in your Music folder. Deleting the iTunes software from your Applications folder will not affect your music library.

Plug the webcam into a USB socket, turning it on if necessary, and launch the software you wish to use. There is usually an option to set the Video Source or Video Input which should show you camera along with the built-in iSight. For example; in the Skype application the camera selection is found in the Video section of the Preferences. If the camera is not recognised then software such as MacCam (See links below) will usually help.

For the ability to play the latest games go with Windows, but Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional is better because Windows Vista is facing several problems, & it would be best to avoid any headaches, but if gaming is not your main thing of your enjoyment go with a Mac, due to their long life, ease of use, less problems, & looks. Now with a Mac you have the ability to boot into Windows with Boot Camp, so you would have the use of Windows.

The newer MacBook and MacBook Pro models have some distinct differences. The MacBook is a white plastic shell with a smaller screen. All MacBook Pro models are now made of a solid, unibody enclosure.

Some advantages/disadvantages:

*The MacBook tends to get very hot after about an hour of use. The MacBook Pro models do not have this problem.

*The MacBook Pro models have a better screen for displaying graphics, and have a higher powered graphics chip.

*The MacBook Pro 13" and 15" models include a SD Card slot. The MacBook and MacBook Pro 17" models do not.

*The MacBook has a removable battery. All batteries on the MacBook Pro models can not be removed.

*The MacBook only comes with a 2.13GHz processor. The standard configuration of the lowest costing MacBook Pro has a 2.23GHz processor.

*All MacBook Pro batteries can have a charge for up to 7 hours (excluding the MacBook Pro 17", which can have an 8 hour charge). The battery on the MacBook can have just a 5 hour charge.

The MacBook Pro family has some obvious advantages. If you're looking for a lower-costing computer that can run Mac OSX, the MacBook would be your best choice. If you need something reliable that can do any task, go for it and upgrade to a MacBook Pro.

There are more than three, but I'll try and pick the three most important - assuming cost is irrelevant.

A good CPU

SSDs in RAID 0 configuration (the more the better up to certain point)

Eliminate ALL bottlenecks (generally addressed with a good motherboard)

Of course, as I said there are more than three, and if you're planning on some hardcore gaming, a good GPU is definitely up there, but those three are what's going to give you all round performance (along with some RAM, of course :P)
