Before the Revolutionary War and the enactment of the Constitution, the colonies' governments were varied. Most, however, operated by charters issued by the British crown.

The idea of the document differs greatly from the time period. The constitution for example was a totally different set of ideals in a time of monarchs.

The Mayflower Compact was not a novel It was a document which entailed the first governing system of the Plymouth Colony. It was written by the Colonist itself, which were later known as the Pilgrims.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. MPD is a disorder in which you have some number of people living in the same body. When one takes over, the other does not remember what the he/she was doing. The Mayflower Compact was a document written and signed by the first colonists to arrive in the first colony in Massachusettes (Plymouth Colony). Its purpose was simply to serve as an agreement for the male representatives saying that, "Yes, we will obey the laws. The laws will be in line with the English crown and most importantly with the glory of God."

The US Constitution was written centuries later after the Americans had broken away and won independence from the British. Its purpose was to outline laws and guidelines for the government. It gave the government branches rights as well as limits.

In Britain, where the Pilgrims came from, and most other places in Europe, people were subject to a King and to the lords and officials he appointed. Even where a Parliament existed, as in Britain, very few people were entitled to vote for representatives, and the King still had great power. In some areas, groups might be ruled by a clan chief who was the strongest warrior - but always, the people were ruled by others. The Mayflower Compact is the earliest known instance in which the members of a group agreed that the best way for their community to survive was for ALL the men in the group to agree jointly upon their own rules for the community and to obey those rules were even if they had originally voted against them. This was a true democracy, the first ever established in the American colonies by Europeans. It was a revolutionary idea that people could and should govern themselves.

Magna Carta was first, in 1215. The mayflowe compact happened several hundred years later in 1620.

The Mayflower was the ship that transported the Pilgrims to the New World. The mayflower was a popular flower in England. Some historians believe a mayflower was carved on the Mayflower's stern.

It is an enlightened document. The reason for this is because it is based off of philosophies which came from The Enlightenment period.

It identified and focused on principles and issues that would unify the various colonial groups.

When you read the Mayflower Compact and the PreAmble to the Constitution, you can see some similarities - not in the wording, but in the intent.
