A knocking sound while your car is moving is probably coming from the engine. A certified mechanic will be able to perform diagnostic testing.

Yes.
The bolt-pattern is the same, but the second generation Miatas (1999-2005) have more room for larger/wider wheels.

You can "cheat" clear it by using a OBDII scanner that allows you to erase it, or simply disconnect the battery and wait for a few minutes.
P0402 is very common for 1999-2000 Miatas. The most common reason is because the engines run very rich and tends to crud up the EGR ports. This is usually fixed by clearing out the Intake Manifold EGR port, and the EGR valve itself:

There are two fans on a Miata. The main fan is triggered by the coolant temperature sensor, which is at the back of the Miata engine, dead center, just above the transmission. The second fan is triggered when AC is turned on.

A Phoenix area Mazda Dealer Service advisor told me it was two trips of 40 consecutive miles. Sounds a bit much to me. I was hoping to pass emissions today. Still searching for a more definitive answer...

It is possible on all 1990 to 2005 models. It has not been verified yet on later models.
The lock cylinder used on Miata's has a feature that allows it to "disengage" from the center console release. However, Mazda has designed it so that the feature cannot be used.
In order to do this modification, you will need to grind away the small stop tabs that prevent the lock from disengaging the trunk release. Please visit the Related link below for details.

On manual transmission Miatas, there are two bolts on the driver's side of the transmission.
The upper fill hole bolt's head is shaped like a square, and you'll need a special, 8-pt socket to remove it. It is strongly advised that you remove this first. You want to ensure that you can actually refill the transmission before you drain it! It is also very common that this plug is extremely stubborn. Make sure you have a good breaker bar and loosen it with rust remover well in advance.
The lower one is a standard bolt that is to drain the fluid.

It sounds like you still have a little air in the brake lines. You probably need to bleed them again. Or you have the pads installed improperly.

The problem with Miatas is that the odometer memory is actually held in the electronic gauge itself. Therefore, if it needs to be replaced, the number will be the mileage as on the new odometer - 0. Or if you purchase a used odometer, it will display that mileage, not your original.
My advice is that you purchase a used odometer, and that includes the whole gauge cluster (speedometer, tachometer, etc). I would recommend used because:
Replacing the cluster is very easy, and only takes a gentle hand. It is literally held in with 3 plugs, other than the cover that is simply pulled off. Please review the Related Links section for additional details regarding instrument cluster removal.

In a 2003 Mazda 6, open the glove box, squeeze the sides gently and remove ithe box. The cabin air filter is directly behind where the glove box lives. It is a simple matter to unlatch the door and pull the old filter out. Reverse your steps to install the new filter and glove box. It helps to empty the glove box first so you don't spill anything. Open hood, look at the hood lock mechanism. About 6-8 inches to the left is a small bolt holding the horn bracketed just behind the bumper, just behind the shiny metal area.

If the ticking is coming from under the dash. It's probably your fan housing, or a misaligned fan. You will have to get to the fan and either replace the fan, or move any obstacles that may be hitting the fan.

Keeps the engine from stalling when you let off the throttle (as when shifting). The dashpot has a diaphragm inside with a small hole in it. At steady throttle pressure is equal at both sides, but when you let off the falling manifold pressure sucks the diaphragm to one side. This moves an actuator which catchs the throttle and sets it gently on the idle stop.

On my 1990 Miata I have to bend down and look under the passenger dash area close to the floor board and you will see a rubber tubing that has come loose, usually from somebody putting feet to far up and knocking it loose. Just reconnect it
