The Portuguese arrived in Ghana in 1471, although there are no records on the web for it, one may safely assume that the Portuguese brought priests with them, who would have been the first missionaries.

Converting people to Christianity.

It was more than that. In the North they did not establish any churches or attempt any "converts" this was because Fredrick Lugard would not allow them.

In areas where Islam dominated Christianity did not have much of an influence. Because Islam is more of a dominate religion.

However, one of the principle objectives were to attempt to remove the many and strong supersitions of Nigerians along with abolishing the many practices of Human sackrifices (sp). The Christians also wanted to impose Western morality on to the Nigerians in a false belief that their morality was superior to the Igbos, Yoruba or other Nations within the area of their control they named Nigeria. So Polygamous relationships needed controlling, the idea of the powerful market women who could earn more than their husband did not fit in with their Victorian view of a womans place in the home. Or the use of Christian names because the lazy missionaries could not pronounce the African names, in class.

The introduction of the Christian Missionary School CMS was also used to introduce Western Education to prepare Nigerians to modern ways of thinking and economy. Both Yoruba and Igbo nations embraced this as a way to advance themselves. In the run up independence the Northern States of Nigerian mainly Hausa and Fulani Muslim states found themselves at a disadvantage so the British fixed the 1st elections to ensure that the Islamic North had control over the rest of the Federation.

Initially the British run Nigeria as two separate states Northern = Islamic and Southern. Until they were merged in 1914. Ironically the British liked the Islamic model of government as it made their work easier to Adminster such a large area with very few Colonial Adminstrators on the ground. Utilizing the Islamic model served the British purposes as it reached a broader mass than having to convert the hetrogenous southern states of various traditional beliefs.

The missionaries brought Christianity and basic education to the aborigines of remote Australia. To aid in their management of the aboriginal population, they encouraged them to move from their traditional lifestyles onto centralised missions. Here, they were provided such necessities as flour, sugar and tea, so that they did not need to leave the missions to hunt for food.

The centralised lifestyle soon brought the people into close contact with white Australians, bringing them occasional, low paid work and access to alcohol. The teaching of Christianity meant that the aborigines were encouraged to forget their traditional religions and cultures. They began to be forced to speak English at all times, thus losing their native languages and traditions.

Gradually, alcoholism, sexual diseases and domestic violence became part of the lifestyle of many aborigines in remote areas. With large numbers of children of mixed racial heritage, the governments and missions worked together in many cases, to remove these children and offer them what was thought to be a better lifestyle.

There were both positive and negative outcomes of the missionaries involvement in aboriginal communities, and not all the problems of modern aboriginal communities are solely the result of missionary intervention.

Dr. David Livingstone (1813-1873) was a doctor and missionary in the Congo.

To convert the native people, the same reason why missionaries were established in the first place.

To spread Christianity and help in development in other ways, such as building schools and hospitals and other facilities for communities.

Of all various viewpoints of the teenagers in today's church, one thing cannot be ignored. They are the future of any church. They are the future of the world. The youth plays the role of supporting the adult church members, teaching them (as young learns from old, so old learn from young), and assuming the responsibilities of the church when they are older.

Be smart have a good voice and don't be shy!

First off, stop looking for fame. Being a gospel singer isn't about reaching fame. Secondly, be honest about your intentions. Thirdly, get some sort of training in the feild of traditional gospel singing (if that's where you are wanting to head). Forth, sing with your heart and soul, its there that the gospel lives within. Fifth, write good songs! Sixth, WORK HARD!!!! Sing where ever you can even if its on the streets. Get your talent noticed! Work as hard as you can to get noticed as a gospel singer. Work backgroud if you have to to get somewhere first. Never give up on your singing! If someone tells you that you can't sing, work ever harder! You have to be your biggest fan to start with. If your not your biggest fan, you can't expect anyone else to be!

Surround yourself with Friends that love you and are honest with you. Because these are your biggest critics.

One of the biggest things that we as gospel singers need to remember is to have Integrity. If you don't know what this is, research it.

And always always remember to trust in God!

When the Lord formed the earth and the seas all of the earth was in one place, there were no countries as we know them now. As Adam and Ever were the first missionaries to their own family in a certain part of this combined earth. When the earth was divided the place for the first missionaries did not chage but remained in what is now called America.

The people who ran the Mission at San Diego viewed anyone who they baptized as owing labor to the of mission, King and God. The Native people had to work every day, men and women had to live separately and could not marry without permission and they were not paid. The profits went to running the mission and the Church. Women were raped and food was stolen from natives. The leaders of the mission viewed this as normal and any attempt to refuse or run away as treason and denial of God and his order. Punishments were severe. Deaths were high. There were repeated revolts. The most famous was in November 1775.

Most people today would feel that being forced to work for no pay, being told how to live and where and to be whipped or killed if you didn't would be called slavery. Is was not called that by the Spanish but it fits most definitions.

The Friars believed that it was the Devil who was making the Native people not want to live and work there. The Father Palou wrote:

"The enemy, [Satan] envious and resentful, no doubt because the heathen in that territory were being taken away from him, and because the missionaries, with their fervent zeal and apostolic labors, were steadily lessening his following, and little by little banishing heathenism from the neighborhood of the port of San Diego, found a means to put a stop to these spiritual conquests."

We can't know for certain, but it seems likely from their actions (repeated revolts) that most of the Natives resented and were angry at their treatment by the Friars. In the revolt of 1775 they burnt most of the buildings and religious artifacts and killed the Father running it. Most would call that not getting along at all.

Missionary style is considered to be the man on top position with the woman underneath (woman in submission). This is the position people normally start out with and assume naturally. Every other sexual position is derived from this position.One person lies on top of the other while other person's penis is in the vagina or buttocks of the other person.

Historically, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (The "Mormon" church) travelled by horse, wagon, handcart, boat, or foot. In modern times, by car, train, bus, bike, foot, boat, plane, skateboard - however they want!

1. Cultural Challenges. Whenever a person immerses himself in a new cultural environment there is stress. Often the problem is greater and described as culture shock. Most people adapt to the new culture and even appreciate many of its aspects. But some have greater trouble than others. It is even more difficult if the missionary believes that his home culture is superior to other cultures (ethnocentrism).

2. Separation. Living in a different part of the world separates a missionary from his family, friends, church family, and places of emotional attachment. Ideally, one develops new relationships in the mission field. But that does not fully compensate for the losses.

3. Opposition. Many cultures are not open to the message of the missionaries. In some cases the culture is closed to new ideas. In some other cases there are individuals, groups, or even governments that actively seek to oppose or even punish those who are seeking to be a catalyst for change.

Missionaries in Nigeria aimed to spread Christianity and promote Western education and culture. They established schools, healthcare facilities, and churches, which significantly influenced local communities. Additionally, they often sought to address social issues like slavery and promote moral values, though their activities sometimes led to cultural clashes and resistance from indigenous beliefs. Overall, their efforts contributed to both the religious landscape and the socio-economic development of Nigeria.

There were many types of missionaries and missionaries went to many countries in the world. Early Christian missionaries taught the people farming techniques, and built hospitals and schools. Christian missionaries are associated with higher levels of printing, education, economic development, organizational civil society, protection of private property and rule of law and with lower levels of corruption
