What were the events leading to Quit India Movement?
The Quit India Movement (Hindi: भारत छोड़ो आन्दोलन Bhārat Chodo Āndolan), or the August Movement (August Kranti) was a civil disobedience movement launched in India in August 1942 in response to M K Gandhi's call for immediate independence. The All-India Congress Committee proclaimed a mass protest demanding what Gandhi called "an orderly British withdrawal" from India. The call for determined, but passive resistance appears in his call to Do or Die, issued on 8 August at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Bombay.
The British were prepared to act. Almost the entire Indian National Congress leadership, and not just at the national level, was imprisoned without trial within hours after Gandhi's speech-at least 60,000 people. Most spent the rest of the war in prison and out of contact with the masses. The British had the support of the Viceroy's Council (which had a majority of Indians), of the Muslims, the Communist Party, the princely states, the Imperial and state police, the Indian Army, and the Indian Civil Service. Many Indian businessmen were profiting from heavy wartime spending and did not support Quit India. Many militant students paid more attention to Subhas Chandra Bose, who was in exile and supporting the Axis. The only outside support came from the Americans, as President Franklin D. Roosevelt pressured Prime Minister Winston Churchill to give in to Indian demands. The Quit India campaign was effectively crushed.
The British refused to grant immediate independence, saying it could happen only after the war ended.

What did Mahatma Gandhi advocate and what was the cause for him to do this?
He advocated resistance to the British rule using non violence means, the cause was to free the poverty stricken Indians from unfair British rule. In reality his last protest was in 1942 and India got independance in 1947, his movement was overhyped and only played a small part in the independance of India from Britain, but gets high accolades for being peaceful and non violent. The real reason the British left was because they had milked India of its riches and had nothing left except for disgruntled subjects, as well as Britain was facing a crisis econmoically due to the world war.
He was not burried. They burnt his dead body into ashes then dropped them in the Indian Ocean to resemble his hard work for India.
Where was Gandhi when India got independence?
Gandhi was one of the leaders of an independence movement which aimed to free what was then India from British rule. He was not the only leader and the first prime minister of India was Pandit Nehru.
The country which was ruled by the British contained more than just modern India, as it included modern Pakistan and modern Bangladesh as well. Before independence there were many disagreements as to what form the new state should take, but one of the leaders of the independence movement, Mohamed Ali Jinnah insisted that there should be a separate state for Muslims and a state in two halves was formed - West Pakistan and East Pakistan. The process of creating two states was called "partition" and the mass movement of people Muslims involved was accompanied by large-scale rioting and religious hatred.
Gandhi was sometimes beaten, imprisoned, and falsely accused of uprising for his beliefs and teachings. Often by the British authorities in India at the time. He often made enemies of those who had a political agenda contrary to his message and non-violent demonstrations that were based on his vision of a united and independent India. Because of his courage in the face of suffering and injustice, he ended up with a great amount of reverence from both the Hindu and Muslim populations of India, and also gained much of the outside world's attention. He used this reverence and influence at times to make a plea for peaceful relations between the two religions by fasting for so long he would cause himself a great amount of suffering. Because the populations of both religions did not want to see him to suffer in this way, the peaceful protest of not eating would actually work for a time being. Gandhi would then eat when the conflicts ceased and there was a mutual celebration between the two factions. In the end, his pursuit of peace between Muslims and Hindus resulted in his assassination by those that did not want peace or unity.
