How do you make a ball out of paper mache?
Probably the best way to make a paper mache ball is to first plan what size of ball you wish and what kind of frame you will use to shape it. Many like to use balloons which can be popped after the paper mache has dried, leaving a shell. Balloons however are rarely perfectly round and so others use wire frames, styrofoam, old sports balls - basically anything round that won't be missed!

Poke a small hole on the bottom of two styrofoam cups (make sure that the whole is in the center of the cups), thread a long string through the cups (be sure that the top of the cup is pointing out). Tie a knot at both ends of the string so that the cups will not fall off.

- Cut open a brown paper shopping bag. Remove the flap formed by the bottom of the bag so that you have one large sheet of brown paper.
- Place the book in the center of the paper.
- Wrap the paper up across the bottom of the book and make a crease along the bottom cover.
- Repeat Step 3 for the top of the book.
- Remove the book from the paper.
- Fold the paper up at the bottom crease and down at the top crease. You should have a strip of paper big enough to cover the book from top to bottom.
- Place the book back in the center of the paper. Wrap the paper across the front of the book from left to right and adjust the book position until the two ends of the paper are even.
- Fold the overlap around the front cover of the book and make a crease. Then insert the front cover of the book into the slot created by the paper folded over at the top and the bottom. Slide the paper down over the book until you hit the crease.
- Repeat Step 8 for the back cover of the book.
- If the cover fits snugly, you can stop at this point. If it seems a little loose or the top and bottom folds are not lying flat, you can use small pieces of tape to pull the front and the inside flap together a little more securely.
- If your supermarket no longer offers paper bags, buy a roll of the brown paper designed for wrapping parcels and use that instead. Cut a piece long enough to cover the front, back and spine of the book with at least three inches of overlap at either end.
- Do not tape the paper cover to the actual cover of the book; the paper cover will move a little when the book opens, and you could damage the book cover.
- If your child likes and the teacher allows, decorate the cover with drawings or stickers.

- the above answer sounds pretty complicated, and you would need to be able to operate a car. All you really have to do to flatten out a rolled-up piece of paper is, while unrolling it, roll it the opposite way. it will come out flat. If not, keep rolling it in the opposite direction that it is curling towards.
You could press it with a steam iron, then put something flat on top of it so it doesn't curl again as it dries.

What kind? Here is how I made a small cardboard Cessna: What you need: cardboard(Works best with regular cereal box type and regular box cardboard doesn't work that good.), Tape or glue, scissors, and a mind set on making an airplane!
Instructions: cut the cardboard in half, and use one half and fold it in half. then, fold each half of the folded half to the fold. then unfold it and make so it is like a square cylinder, and then play with it and make the back smaller than the front(doesn't matter what the front or back is.). then, cut out the wings out of the other half. save some of that half for some other additions(if you have some other cardboard, you don't have to save any of it.). then, tape or glue it to the front, but leaving some space for the engine etc. then, make vertical and horizontal stabilizers(aka back wings and tail fin). then, cut out a sloped place(for the Cockpit window.). then, cut out a piece of cardboard(If you have clear glass for this, great!)for the cockpit "window" and tape it on. then, make a propeller(just a small rectangle out of cardboard if you want, and that's what I did!) and tape or glue it on the front. How do you make a Chinese lantern?
I made a sky lantern as a school project when I was about 10. You can figure out the assembly yourself. it's pretty straight forward, but here are the things I did:
- The top of the lantern/balloon has to be larger than the bottom. this way it has more "lift" at the top, which is what helps keep it upright.
- The material does not need to be fireproof. I sewed a couple of garbage bags together using an old sewing machine
- The opening at the bottom can be kept open with wire. It needs to keep the sides away from the flame.
- I used a firelighter for fuel (one of those kerosene soaked things), held in place level with the bottom using some thin wire attached to the edge frame. Note: The size of the firelighter will reduce as it burns. ensure it will still be very secure once it's smaller.
- Because mine was made of soft very flexible plastic, I needed to use a hair drier to fill the balloon with warm air before I lit the firelighter to keep the sides far enough away to not get burned. It seems the sky lanterns can hold their own shape because they are paper.
Note:
This could present a large fire risk in some areas. You should time how long it takes to burn the fuel, and consider reducing the amount of fuel used to ensure it doesn't go too far. During one of my launches, the fuel fell out about 10 seconds after launch (because it wasn't secure enough), and the balloon still traveled about 1/4 mile. Luckily we were nearby to extinguish the firelighter which fell.
I managed to make one after purchasing from a company called skylanterns2u. They were really good and told be exactly how to make, even mentioned the fuel cells are made from toilet paper just dipped into old candle wax. Just be very careful, easier to buy the quality ones like I did on the net.

When buying them in the US, always be sure and get the flame retardant ones, like those sold at skylighter.com/mall/novelty.asp. Not all sky lanterns come with flame retardant. Check before you buy.
How do you build a ship out of cardboard that can float in water?
You take cardboard and you build the body of your ship using lots of duct tape. The best I have seen are usually boxes with a slight incline at one end. Careful however, they only last the one use.
