1. The source of the infection is an abscess in the tooth. Penicillin can not get to the abscess. It must be removed either by being drilled out and filled in or by having the tooth removed.

2. The pain can be stopped temporarily by a drug such as Novocain, Tylenol, aspirin, or something else.

3. And finally, the infection that spread from the abscess into the body is treated by penicillin. That is the long term solution to the pain from that source. That keeps the infection from coming back to that point. The penicillin is frequently started before the abscess is removed to keep the removal of the abscess from spreading infection throughout the body when it is removed. At that point some other medicine is frequently given to stop the pain. Penicillin only prevents pain in the long term.

well can you keep it fore a year will it still work yes. or no A year is the arbitrary law a pharmacy must put on most medecines they dispense. for penecillin as long as its kept in a closed amber Rx bottle out of direct sunlight and away from extreme temps and moisture it can be good for years. if all the above parameters are met id say 3 years. it doesnt go bad or become harmful just less effective over time. tetracycline on the other hand should never be used past the exp. date

Unfortunately, because people do not take their prescribed doses correctly and since doctors have been giving people antibiotics to people for colds and flu, which do not respond to antibiotics, a lot of the types of germs that ARE susceptible to antibiotics have become immune the "older" ones like penicillin. Now the phamaceutical companies have to come up with stronger, different types of antibiotics to kill these "super bugs" that have mutated and become resistant to drugs like penicillin. So...depending on what type of infection you have, penicillin may or may not be effective.

The short answer is 'no'. It depends on what has caused the mouth ulcer. Common causes of mouth ulcers include local trauma (e.g. biting your lip), poorly fitted dentures and viral infection. I am not sure if Cipro has penicillin in it or not, but I have been allergic to penicillin since I was little and then a few years ago found that I had the same reaction (hives) after taking Cipro...so I don't know, but that's my experience.

Can't say for a fact yes, but I am on amoxicillin for an infected c-section incision and was also given Celebrex for gallbladder attacks which is in the same drug group as ibuprofen (both non-steroid anti-inflammatory). Best thing is to ask a Dr. though as using both could increase the risk of gastrointestinal reactions.

I am no expert but I remember when I became allergic to penicillin

I ran to the emergency room later I had it happen again . My personal doctor was there and told me that ( I had whelps and rash really bad ) I really would do just as good going to Wal-Mart and buying some benadryl or Claraton so I did and it worked for me, anyway we had some puppies and one of them both of them got sick we live really far out 20 miles to the close est store nothing open at night I felt no choice but to give them a penicillin shot . And one of them became allergic eyes swollen itching. So I crushed a benadryl and wet my finger and dipped it on his tongue in as little as 30Min. he was allot better yes if you can run to the vet. They really know more. We have animals and we have treated farm animals. But I know what I did worked in a really bad case you really do need a vet.
