What are the short term problems with landfill sites?
What are some ways you can conserve water at school?
it all depends of what resource in specific you want to tackle.
electricity--> using cfl light bulb instead of incandescent light bulbs. + using motion sensors in areas that don't have too much traficc at different times(bathrooms, library, any warehouse,Gym)
water-->more efficient nozzles at water sinks.
Human Resources--> multitasking personnel. instead of having 1 person for 1 or 2 jobs have more people trained to do 3 or 4 tasks. --> a librarian that can sweep the floor when there is nobody around is an example + dusting off the place + organizing books, receiving new books and labeling them. I think this are regular tasks of a librarian but I might be wrong.
Land--> the school can use a small are of the yard to make it a garden and plant some veggies, legumes, fruits.. that can be used inn the cafeteria...given that the area is not used that much of if it is at a awkward corner where is hard to play/ use.
only you know what can be done since you are the one going to that school, these are just generic examples. walk around school and think of a better way to used a specific area, tool, item, natural resource of heat....
even rain water can be trapped in a tank and used as either water for a gardening yard when there is no rain expected for several days or even to be used to wash outdoor floors, fences, outdoor windows.. after its been strained from leaves or any small pieces of debris if needed. It can be used to clean the dumpster area as well, hopefully there is no bad smells over there but if there is Rain water can be used there and is free...
How could hazardous chemicals deposited in landfills eventually affect groundwater?
The seep into the ground (polluting aquifers that we use for drinking water) and to the surface and cause widespread environmental damage (harm to life on Earth).
When the great pacific garbage patch happened?
Plastics piling up over time in the ocean. They are trapped in the vortex of the ocean's gyre and cannot escape. And its just grows. Now its twice the size of texas and is raising the oceans acid levels by 13%
Factors that contribute to excreta and sewage disposal?
risks from poor sewage sanitation include :
cholera , typhoid fever , parathyroid fever , amoebic and bacillary pysentery , infectious hepatitis
raw sewage , or sewage that has not been treated adequately , is one serious source of water pollution and a cause of eutrophication ...
How long do non-biodegradable waste substances last?
It should be noted that conventional plastics can be made biodegradable with the inclusion of a small amount of an additive that promotes biodegradation. It is then called oxo-biodegradable plastic. Read more at http://biogreenproducts.com . Many plastic disposable products are being introduced that can be biodegraded using oxo-biodegradable technology.
Many common pool chemicals cause foamy pool water. For example algaecide. However, the foaming should not be excessive. If you have a lot of foaming, it could be due to a hold in your return line.
Where do you find water pollution?
Industrial cities I would think with all the pollution and stuff just in the air and that is not even the water.
What are the steps taken by Government of India to prevent pollution?
The government of India has taken many steps to help prevent pollution in the country. They are phasing out old vehicles, they have mass transit, and all newer vehicles have Catalytic Converters.
Why is hazardous waste hazardous?
Hazardous waste, such as dangerous chemicals or radioactive material would spread into the ground around it, eventually leading to groundwater runoff spreading it farther and possibly causing issues with animal or plant life. Due to environmental issues, it's better to keep the hazardous waste in an specialized, enclosed and protected area so the spread can be maintained.
How long does it take to decompose a plastic fork?
it really depends on what kind of plastic it is and what bed it would be decomposing and other factors play a role too, like the sun and moisture. Certain kinds of plastics could take thousands of years.
How long does it take for bodies to decompose in airtight caskets and a vault?
It depends on if and what kind of embalming was used on the body.
What are the bad effects of non biodegradable materials?
1.Stagnant biodegradable wastes expels out foul smell which may result troblesome in a loacality when hygine is considered.
2. Rotting wastes also emit some greenhouse gases such as methane, carbon dioxide, etc.it also emits solids such as ammonia.
What problems do waste plastics cause in the environment?
I have a doubt and I dont know if its an air pollution because if deforestation occurs then there would be greater quantities of CO2 meaning that trees wont be able to transform it in Oxygen. I dont know why it is a land pollution
How many sanitary landfills exist in the Philippines?
The number of sanitary landfills in the Philippines is about 960. Out of these 960 sanitary landfills, 936 are open and controlled dump sites.
There about 960 sanitary landfills in the Philippines. Out of this, it is estimated that over 935 sanitary landfills are controlled and open dump sites.
How much trash does the average person recycle?
In high-income societies each person throws away on average about 4-5 pounds (2 kg) a day.
Why should you put trash in trash bags?
we should do so to keep thor oue environment clean enough for future generation.
An environmentalist is a person that helps to Protect the environment from destruction or pollution. He or she places high values on the environment. The benefits of an environmentalist is the feeling that you are helping the Earth's environment and Ozone Layer.
Why is pollution prevent is better than pollution control?
We need to prevent pollution for a LOT of important reasons. For one, when we drive cars they give off carbon minoxide(in an enclosed space),carbon dioxide, nitrogen(which is VERY flammable),and other dangerous gases. These gases go up into our air and atmosphere and what happens? We breathe them in.
Secondly,All those gases going up into the atmosphere are messing with our atmosphere and making global warming happen which makes the temperatures get hotter. The increased temps will make the icebergs melt, making our oceans overflow and taking thousands of animals' homes who live in places like antarctica.
There's a hole in the ozone layer caused by all these gases. They are still making the hole bigger, very very slowly but surely. This will let harmful UV rays through(Basically radiation-it's rays from the sun) and those can give us cancer and other deadly things as such.
See,this is why it is SO IMPORTANT to stop pollution.
How much recyclable stuff is thrown out?
In an average year, about 70% of things thrown out (cardboard, paper, etc) can be recycled, but people are either too lazy to put them in a recycling bin or don't have one available to them. In most big cities now, though, they have recycling bins as much as garbage cans.
Why is it not a good idea to throw used batteries in trash?
if they get breached the chemicals in them will poison the environment
What are a few ways to conserve water?
BeWaterWise.com has a good section on water saving tips. These are simple and inexpensive. Check out the link given below:
The metal, lead, is very recyclable. There will always be a slight loss on being melted down due to contaminates and slag.
