Where is the hood latch on a 1988 Pontiac fiero?

If you mean the release, it is on the very left (under where your light swith knob panel is) part way under the dash. It lays flush and when you slide your hand forward you will feel a space towards the front and you pull it down and toward you. If you look under the dash you can see it. Kind of square approximately 3" square.

I lost the only key to my 84 Pontiac fiero. How do I get a replacement key or remove steering column to get the key number the locksmith needs thanks rickyfatcatcomcast.net?

by taking your VIN number to gm dealer you can get proper replacement key GM dealers can only retrieve key codes by VIN for vehicles 1998 and newer. On the '84's you must remove the steering wheel, steering wheel lock plate, blinker housing, and emergency flashers knob. Then you must remove the lock cylinder retaining "torx" screw. Now the ignition will slide out. All of this requires specialized tools and is best preformed by a qualified service tec like a locksmith or mechanic. Once the ignition lock has been removed there is usually a code stamped on the outside of the lock cylinder. The code is a number-letter combo looking something like this: 1A23 or 12V3

How do you change a fan belt on a 1986 Pontiac Fiero?

What fan belt? Fiero fans were up front while the engines were in back. You must mean the drive belt located in the engine compartment also known as the alternator belt. The adjusting bolt is located under a triangular plastic cap on top of the right wheel housing. Remove this cap and you will see the bolt down inside. It is not easy to get at and a long ratcheting type of wrench is best to use here. (not sure of the size, maybe someone else might know) loosen the bolt and slide the alternater toward the engine and remove the belt. Replace with a new belt and tighten by prying on the pry section (sorry, don't know how to better describe it) of the alternator; don't pry on the aluminum housing of the alternator. While holding the correct tension, tighten the adjusting bolt and replace the triangular plastic cap. Hope that helps. Good luck!

What engines can easily fit into a Pontiac fiero?

The old school 2.5L 4cyl iron duke, or the 2.8L V6. Beyond thoes two which came from the factory, there are a variety of engines that CAN be put in a fiero. No engine conversion is ever "Easy", as there are always things that pop up. Some will need specialised adapter plates to fit the transmission, some will need special mounts. As with any engine swap, easy is a term relative to what your trying to do, your skills, and the tools you have available. Typically, ANY popular GM engine is "Easy" to swap with another GM product, meaning it can be done with a minimal of fabrication, however, do try and remember, that not all electrical systems work well together, for example, how do you plan to get the stock fiero tachometer to register the signal from a newer engine, when it works off a completley different signal? Is that easy for you to do? No? Well, some people find that the easiest part. Best advice, do your homework. Other than that, look into the 3.1, and 3.4, as I believe both of thoes blocks are externally identical to the 2.8 that came in the fieros. But again, do your research.

Could the wrong firing order cause a Pontiac Fiero to run rough and not accelerate?

timingWrong firing order would probably make it so it wont even start, the timing could be off though. Most likely, you will need to change the MAP sensor and accompanying vacuum hose.

I just went through 4 months of troubleshooting and replacing a lot of parts on my 86 fiero SE 2.8 L. After replacing my fuel pump, fuel filters, fuel pump relay, air cleaner, distributor cap and rotor, and finally the ignition control module (the reason my car woulnt start at all), it finally started. However, it ran really bad. It sounded like I had a horrible exhaust leak or that my catalytic convertor was bad. It would pop, had no power at all, going uphill was impossible, it would overheat (which never happened believe it or not) and it wouldn't idle smoothly at all. It turned out that it was the firing order. Once that was fixed, my timing was fine and my car is running better than it ever has.

Where is the freeze plug on a 1984 Pontiac Fiero?

Correcting High idle on 2.8L fiero?

First, DO NOT adjust the idle screw on the throttle body. This is set by GM, and adjusting it can have dire effects on your Fiero due to the ECM reading incorrect signals (Typically, the ECM will adjust for idle correct and either spray more or less fuel).

A few easy things you can check is the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. That is the very large valve that protrudes out of the side of the throttle body. It requires a large 1"1/4" socket - and you need to use a socket, not any sort of wrench, to remove it. Remove it and it'll likely be stuck all the way in (you should see the spring compressed). Spray it with brake clean or another heavy duty cleaner and let it sit overnight. The brake clean should loosen the spring up and make the valve work temporarily. If after placing the valve back onto the car and driving it that the problem isn't remedied it and the spring returns to it's original position, then you will need to replace the valve itself.

Another problem could potentially be the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. This is that rectangular box that is attached to the red intake plenum on the passenger side of the car. This is an extremely common GM sensor and they can be had very cheap and both the 2.8L V6 and 2.5L L4 Fieros use it.

Finally, you might have a vacuum leak that you will need to trace and find.

Other than that there's not much more that could cause high idle.
