You will want a gallon of water per pound of potatoes.
Bring water to boil.
Peel and cut potatoes into uniform sizes.
Put into water and boil three to five minutes or until soft.
Note. Water should reach 180F
When cooked take from boiling water and put into iced water.
Leave in iced water as long as in boiling water.
Dry and pack for freezer.

Why can't you taste the difference between an apple and a potato?
I'm not sure why you can't...Most people can taste a very broad difference between potatoes and apples. Admittedly though, they do have similar textures.

Potatoes do not need to be peeled, sliced or prepared before baking other than to wash them and pierce the skin in several places to allow steam to escape. They also bake well in microwave ovens which makes them convenient to have on-the-job and an easy, nutritious lunch.
