Yes, they are the same. Severe depression is also called "major" depression. The differentiation is with bipolar depression. That depression is the depressive cycle of the illness. Clinical depression is more prevalent in women. While there is no research-based reason for this, in my opinion it is because research has shown that women are more emotional than are men.

their are lots of differed reasons why people may need a psychologist to help them with their needs in the psychiatrist aspect, a person who has a mental illness like bipolar or depression will need psychologist to help Diagnose them with their mental illness and treat them professionally, as they can get to the source of the problem, and help by undangling deep un-rooted problems by looking into the person social up bringing ,or see if their illness was cause by drug addiction etc... And prescribe drugs . People need Counselling by a psychologist beacuse they my not be able to handle personal problems alone. And counselling gives the person hope and and ways to deal and treat a person needs they are anotherwise unable to cope with.

A Psychologist is a trained professional who evaluates and studies behavior and mental processes. They have the professional training and clinical skills to help people learn how to cope with life's issues and mental health problems. After a car accident and being referred by my pain management doctor I saw a psychologist for talk therapy counseling and techniques to help me cope with PTSD and depression. But I had to see a Psychiatrist to prescribe medication and more counseling.

Psychology is a very vast field with many specializations.

1) You could be in academics, teaching the specialization you learnt

2) Be a school counselor

3) Be a marital/ family therapist

4) Be a special educator for special children

5) Be a general therapist helping people using whichever orientation you have practised. Some people use psychoanalytic methods, others use RET or CBT or Rogerian non-directive therapy etc.

6) Be a psychiatric rehabilitation person helping those with psychiatric problems

7) Be in HR after doing organizational/ industrial psychology

8) Become a criminologist after criminal psychology

9) Sports psychologist
