What makes things hot or cold?

The thermal energy inside them.

The more thermal energy you put in them (e.g. by heating them), the hotter they are going to become, and the stronger the particles that they are made of are going to wobble around. This thermal random motion of particles is called 'Brownian motion'. dunno

How does a thermos keep things hot?

A thermos has another container indise the plastic or metal coating made of glass. This container is really like one bottle inside of another bottle and sealed at the ends by melting the edges together. The air is taken out from the space between the two bottles to produce a vacuum, which isn't a good conductor of heat and does a good job at slowing down the movement of heat. To slow down the other heat they coat the facing surfaces of the glass bottles with a silvery coating. This reflects the heat and helps slow down any losses that might get that way. They use a material like cork or rubber to make the bottle stopper and anything else that might touch the outside surface of the glass container. These materials are bad conductors of heat and slow down the heat loss. What's left is what we can see which can be metal or plastic and is the covering for the glass bottles.

The idea here (with the thermos) is to slow down the movement of heat from one place to the other. So if you have hot stuff in the thermos or cold stuff in the thermos, the end result is the same. Keep heat from moving to where you don't want it to go for as long as possible. It was invented in1892 by Sir James Dewar.

What do you call a forest of tall trees where there is a lot of rain but is not cold or hot?

Temperate rain forest is the name given to a forest that contains a considerable number of tall trees in an area that is very rainy and neither very cold or very hot.

The Pacific Northwest United States is such an area. The Olympic National Park, which is situated in the northwest corner of the state of Washington is a temperate rain forest.

Rainfall there exceeds twelve feet per year. Temperature seldom drops below freezing or rises above 80° F.

Temperate rain forests, unlike tropical rain forests do not have as large of a variety of tree species. Also tropical rain forest tend to very hot.

Orangutans primarily inhabit the tropical rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra in Southeast Asia. They are arboreal creatures, mostly living in the upper canopies of trees, where they find food, build nests, and seek shelter. These regions provide the dense vegetation and fruit-rich environment that are crucial for their survival. However, habitat loss due to logging and palm oil plantations poses a significant threat to their populations.

Do hummingbirds live in the emergent layer in a rainforest?

Hummingbirds primarily inhabit the understory and mid-levels of tropical rainforests rather than the emergent layer. These birds are attracted to the abundant flowering plants found in these lower layers, where they can easily access nectar. While some species may occasionally be spotted in the emergent layer, it is not their primary habitat. Their feeding habits and nesting preferences align more closely with the dense vegetation below the canopy.

How many flowers are in the rainforest?

If you take flowers to mean angiosperms (the group name for all flowering plants) then surprisingly few are found in the rainforest. This is primarily due to the lack of sunlight that is capable of penetrating through the thick upper canopy (only around 2% reaches the forest floor).

Most plants produce a 'flower' of some sort - an organ which disperses/collects gametes of the opposite sex. The majority of rainforest plants are insect pollinated as there is little wind flow. A surprisingly number are pollinated by mammals (eg bats) as well as the more common insect pollination.
