Why are the rainforest birds endangered?

The primary reason that some rainforest birds are endangered is because their habitat is disappearing rapidly due to slash-and-burn farming and illegal and/or unsustainable logging. Some rainforest birds, like those who live in Hawaii, are endangered because introduced predators that they are not used to avoiding, like snakes and domestic cats, are hunting them very efficiently. However, it is important to note that not all rainforest birds are endangered.

If you're talking about true trees (not like bamboo, which is a common misnomer) there are three types. Coniferous trees (also evergreen, etc.) have long thin leaves, that are commonly referenced as needles. Examples: Lodgepole pine, white spruce, etc. Also, the difference between pine and spruce is pine needles come off in pairs (P in pair and pine). Spruce needles come off in singles (same memory principle as pine; spruce and single).

The next type is deciduis (not sure on spelling(SORRY)) which sheds its broad leafy leaves in fall. Examples:Aspen, willow, etc.

Finally, the tamarack. Yes, ah, the tamarack. This is a weird combination of the afore mentioned types. I can't exactly give you a definite answer on this definition.I forget. Oops!

Did the settlers have succeeded in turning land in the amazon basin into productive permane?

No.

I assume you mean permanent farmland...

Because when the forest is clear-cut, the soil loses most of its ability to grow crops. This is because the 3 delicate balance of a rainforest ecosystem is totally thrown out of whack when the vegetation is removed. The thick canopy created by the trees protects the nutrients from being washed away and the soil from being completely saturated by the constant downpour of rain. So, when the

weakened soil is used as farmland, it is weakened even more and turns

into exhausted, hard red clay after only a couple of harvests
