5 series 1993 and earlier with the big six cylinder (m30 3.5 l)

3 series 1991 and earlier with the m20, 2.5 l.

I have had experience with the e30 and e34 chassis models and both are great with the proper maintenance. Remember, even a good car needs proper care and will fall apart without it.

Stay away from the later BMW's. They are nowhere near as reliable.

The most common cause is a blocked radiator.

I'd recommend fitting a new one, some companies will flush & clean them but you can get a new rad from eBay for the same price as a clean!.

You need to get hold of a sniff tester.Its a glass tube that you put special fluid in ,then you remove your header tank cap (when you have run your engine for a bit ) then put the tube in the tank press the ball a few times and if the fluid changer's colour then this will tell you if your head gasket has gone ,(because it detects carbon from the fuel )which is common for the rover v8's

You can get a diagram of the distributor cap wiring for a 91 Classic Range Rover at most major auto parts stores. Libraries and book stores also have books with the wiring diagram.

Drain coolant from engine and keep it safe and clean somewhere. Make sure to keep coolant hoses from the heater box up high to prevent coolant from leaking out.

Disconnect the two coolant lines from the heater box. Make sure not to kink the lines.

Undo the two bolts in the engine bay on the lower part of the heater box, and the top two bolts in the passenger footwell.

Remove heater box from upper footwell engine bay area.

Blower and heater matrix are now accessible.

Go back to the street location where it happened at the same general time on different days. Look for the vehicle and the possible damage. Buy an OBD reader on E-bay that gives you diagnostics and can clear codes also,, or disconnect your battery for a couple of minutes and then reconnect!

To change the thermostat on a 2000 Range Rover, first, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Drain the coolant from the radiator, then remove the hoses connected to the thermostat housing. Unscrew the housing to access the thermostat, replace it with the new unit, reassemble the housing and hoses, and refill the cooling system with coolant. Alas there is no transmission dipstick on the later model 4.6 SE and HSE models 1999 on. There is simply a plug near the top of the pan so you have to crawl underneath. Many of the LR ports websites have a detailed procedure, engine running etc.
