HDTV has demanded a great deal of investment by content producers and broadcasters. Studios, transmission suites, archiving, cable and satellite services have all seen increased costs for new equipment.

Broadcasting HD uses about 5 times the data rate of a similar SD channel so bandwidth allocation that will carry 5 SD channels supports just one HD channel.

Apart from the equipment, other less obvious details have changed. HD demands more attention to lighting, costumes and sets with some significant cost increases.

During the transition from SD to HD, charging a premium to receive HD channels is one of the ways to recoup the investments in infra-structure and production costs. As more viewers move to HD, market forces are likely to reduce the premium. In the coming years, we are also likely to see the end of some SD channels with the content offered only as HD. As we reach that point, the HD premiums are very likely to reduce to a minimal amount.

And let's not forget, because they can. As with any other commercial organization, broadcasters are keen to increase profits. If people are willing to pay extra for improved quality, HD pricing will remain higher than SD.

True BNC connectors have four parts. The main body, a metal washer, a specially shaped rubber washer and a screw in ferrule to hold it all together. They also require some soldering to do it properly.

And since you're asking, installing a true BNC connector would require several pages of typing to explain how. There are two alternatives: Find a broadcast engineer or video technician who'll show you the process, or just get some screw on type connectors, which are easy to figure out and install. They'll also work quite dependably, too.

Go out from the dish set-top box and into the vcr and then out from vcr into the tv.

Most receivers have outputs that are RCA (Yellow/Red/White). On the back of your VCR, you should have inputs for RCA. Also have inputs on the back of the Television.

There are two ways to go if it is a non-HD receiver: Coaxial and RCA

---- Take the cable output from the back of the receiver (it says "out to tv") and connect that to the input on the VCR. Then take another cable and attach it to the output on the VCR and connect that to the TV's input. This requires you to set the TV to either channel 3 or 4 depending on the setup on the VCR.

---- Take the RCA (Yellow/Red/White) from the receiver to the VCR inputs and plug them in. Hookup the VCR to the TV using the Coax or using the RCA output on the VCR. Note: this will require you to set the VCR to the TV/VCR setting in order to view the Video/Audio output. This would require either changing the channel (Coax output) or changing the TV's video input.
