Contact the cable company, and sign up. Pay for your cable. The existing wiring in your apartment is acting as a sort of off-air antenna. There are probably pretty strong off-air signals available in your area. If you don't want to sign up for service through cabel or satellite, then you may want to add some rabbit ears. Radioshack has some good ones that will strengthen the signal and aren't too big. If you are able to get some kind of signal through the cable jack, an RF amplifier may be able to boost the weak signal enough to produce a clearer picture. An RF amplifier like that used to boost an antenna's signal might work. Some of your cable signals may be out of the frequency range for the antenna amplifier to boost all of the channels. Don't expect any miracles like a crystal clear picture.

If I'm understanding your question correctly, it does matter what type of satellite dish you get to go with a particular satellite receiver such as a Dish Network receiver. Even the type of satellite receiver or programming selection can require a different type of Dish as all receivers pick up different satellites in orbit. Dish Networks new receivers, such as the Vip 722 and Vip 922 require a 1000.4 Dish. If you meant what company to go with, do your homework and shop around. Make sure you understand the promotional price that you will get initially, and then what your cost will be when the promotion ends. In my opinion, Dish Network has the best deals around.

yes I cancelled my sky due to poor content, and am still using it for the free stuff, apparently this is the law that suppliers have to adhere to, that is accepting that you have your own box like I have.

A 15 PIN cable is a VGA cable and the yellow, white and red RCA connectors are for composite video and 2 channel audio.

Converting VGA to composite needs more than a cable adaptor and will always substantially reduce the quality of the image.

Many modern televisions have red, green and blue inputs with one or two synchronizing inputs. If the television has a set of connectors like this it may well handle VGA signals. There are some converters that will combine the two sync signals in a VGA signal into a single signal that most other RGB signals use. Note that you will need to send audio via a different input other than your VGA of course

Before investing in any hardware, read and study the manual for the television. Most will make reference to VGA signals and whether or not they can be used.

Another alternative is to use a DVI or HDMI dsplay output from the computer. Display ports that connect to a USB port can be purchased at a relatively low cost and they will provide a full quality interface to most televisions with an HDMI input. DVI is compatible with HDMI in that they carry the same video information. DVI does not carry audio so once again, a separate audio connection will be required if a DVI display port is used.

There are several milestones in the introduction of color television.

The first demonstration of color television was carried out by John Logie Baird in 1928. He was also the first to demonstrate monochrome television in 1925 and using the same system of rotating discs for color television. The BBC were about to adopt his system for public broadcasting but used the monochrome version rather than color.

After Philo Farnsworth had successfully shown a fully electronic system in 1929, Baird put forward a proposal for an electronic color encoding system and this was published in 1939. His proposal was used as the basis for future color broadcasts.

In 1942, the US saw the first public color broadcast. The system was not compatible with the existing monochrome one and it was terminated only a few months later.

1954 saw the introduction of RCA's color system in the US. It was fully compatible with the monochrome broadcasts and this system has remained in use until today.

Britain was later to develop a color encoding system. Similar to the US NTSC system, the British PAL encoding avoided some minor issues of NTSC. It was first broadcast in 1967.

Other countries introduced one of the two systems in the years that followed although France chose a third system known as SECAM.

Any receiver that is safe to use and does not act as a re-broadcaster to other areas is legitimate for free to air TV.

SDI stands for serial digital interference. It is a video interface used within broadcast environments and supports both SD and HD signals. It runs on a single co-ax cable with BNC terminations. As well as video, the signal carries audio and other ancillary data such as closed captions, content identification and test signals.

SDI is not found outside broadcast facilities so it will not be seen on domestic televisions or players.
