My 2004 Saturn ion runs hot what should I look for first?
Low coolant? Cooling fan not working? Thermostat not opening? Cooling system air bound? Water pump not circulating coolant? Plugged or restricted radiator? Defective radiator cap?
How do you fix the horn on a 2004 Saturn Ion?
I have a 2004 Saturn ION. Horn stopped working. I learned on the internet it is located under the driver's side headlight. I removed the headlight and the defective horn. I replaced it with an old horn from a Chevrolet. It was designed to ground to chassis through it's mount. I checked with my meter to find which wire was ground and plugged the lead from the horn into the other terminal. You can cut and splice but I left the existing connector in tact in case anyone ever wants to replace the horn with an OEM product. Total cost of project $0 since all of the components were foundlings.

How do you change the spark plugs in a 2003 Saturn ION?
I did this today. First thing I did was disconnect the electrical connector for the Ignition Control Module (the metal thing on the black cover in the top middle of the engine). Then I unbolted the holder for the Throttle Cable (that's the cable that runs over the engine and into the rear fire wall...it can be a bit difficult to get the the bolt, but I GENTLY pulled up on the metal A/C/ pipe over it), so I could get it out of the way. Once that's out of the way, unscrew the four bolts holding the cover/Ignition Module to the engine. Gently pull the cover off; this may be somewhat hard to get off because of the boots over the plugs, they use suction to stay on. Once off, unscrew the plugs (don't use to much force as you don't want to break the plug off). Once off, coat the threads of the new plugs with anti-seize compound and reinstall. I chose to finger tighten them, then a quarter to half turn with the ratchet. Don't over tighten them as you could strip the threads. Once they are in, put the cover back on, making sure the boots go over the plugs, reattach the holder for the Throttle Cable and reattach the plug for the ignition control module...then you're all set! I would recommend getting the OEM plugs from the dealer or a local auto parts store. The ones I got from the dealer are AC Delco Iridiums. The plugs don't require changing until the car has approximately 100,000 miles on it (160,000 KM).
I have also done my plugs today as well, But just remember one thing just because you don't hear the snap from the boots when putting the cover back on dosent mean that they are not on right.( Hold the cover down with your hands using alittle force not to much, Then tap on the cover lightly. Then start one bolt on one side don't tighten it all the way, Then on the other side the farthest away from the first bolt do the same but tighten that one down then go back to the first one and tighten.)

Will the 15 steel wheels from a 1999 Saturn sc2 fit a 2004 Saturn ion?
no, the ion uses 14's (this answer is no good at all!! I don't know who write that, but when you don't know, DON'T ANSWER!!!) (the max wheel diameter to put on a SC is 19 inch, i guess it's the same for the ion.) in fact, i just bouth a ion's wheels to put in my SC2 1999 saturn. now, Oem sc's wheel with 195/60/15 (winter) and Oem Ion's wheel with 205/50/16 (summer) Little difference between the wheels. The center hole, the SC2 have a lil bigger center on the disc/drum, so i have to modify a lil the oem mag of the Ion to fit. But if you put SC's wheels on a Ion, i suppose the gap will but too wide and the wheels and disc/drum will hold only with the bolt, not with the ''lips'' of the disc/drum. RVDownshift
What to do if the reverse lights are not working in a 2003 Saturn Ion?
Check the fuses inside the driver's side kick panel (right side, against center console.) Turn the black screw, and then pull the panel directly off. Turn it around, and there is a diagram that will show which fuse is connected to what. Pull the fuse and make sure that it is not blown. (If it is blown the metal inside will not be connected.)
The one thing about Saturn's is if there is a problem with your car, then thousands of other people have the same problem. This problem is typical. I would bet it is the back up light switch if you drive a standard transmission. The back up light switch can be purchased for about $25.00 at an auto parts store. It plugs into your engine roughly below the battery. The battery may have to be removed to gain access to the plug, but its an easy fix. This only applies if you have a standard.
I removed the switch from the transaxel-with the front left wheel removed. Sometimes if you have some- electrical parts cleaner sprayed it the trans side of the switch can restore function to it. Had to do this because auto parts stores nearby did not stock this switch. works fine for now.How many miles per gallon does a 2006 Saturn Ion get?

Does it really matter if you unleaded vs super unleaded gas?
Unless your owners manual says that you must use super unleaded gas, you should just use regular unleaded. Otherwise you are just wasting your money and possibly harming your engine. super unleaded petrol has a higher octain rate than unleaded. check your owners manual for the optimal rate you should be using for the engine.

Does the 2003 Saturn Ion have a transmission dipstick?
If it is an automatic, then all cars have dipsticks. But if the Saturn is a stick-shift it wont have a dipstick.
Edit: all cars don't have tranny dipsticks, my sister in law has a 2004 Saturn Ion L2 and there is no visible dipstick.. (still looking, cant seem to find an answer ANYWHERE)
I would guess that it depends on the model, but on a 2005 Ion 2 it is 30mm.
