How do you change the light bulb for the shift control of a 1999 forester?

You start by emptying the console and removing the screws at the bottom of the storage console. Lift that up out and the next screws are accessible. This is also how you go about removing the radio, believe it or not. Start at the back and work your way forward. Good luck! --Ken

Why do my 2002 Subaru Forester radio and clock stop working sometimes and work the next time.?

If both are non functional then it is probably a fuse.

If it is just the clock that works sometimes then it is probably weak solder and the clock needs to be repaired. Check out www.autoclockrepair.com for a very reasonable repair solution, removal instructions, and more.

What is the correct tire pressure for a 2007 Subaru Forester with original tires?

For most cars the correct info is in the owners manual, but also there should be a decal either on the glovebox door or the driverside doorjam. DO NOT READ IT OFF THE TIRE! That is wrong 99% of the time! The pressure indicated on the tire is the pressure required for the tire's MAXIMUM load rating. Most car do not load the tires anywhere near that weight. Also, a "radial" tire (most all are) when it is properly inflated, will bulge the sidewall next to the pavement. This is normal. Many people try to add air to make it go away. Not good, less traction and rougher ride.

How do you test a knock sensor to see if it is bad?

Knock sensors detect detonation ( knocking ) by reacting to the ping by retarding the ignition timing so you will need a timing light for this. connect the timing light and locate the knock sensor, ( many are on the intake manifold ) now use a metal object to tap ( not too hard and not on the sensor itself ) on the intake manifold ( light tapping should suffice ), if the sensor is functioning you will see the timing retard. If the timing does not retard you will need to check voltage across the terminals of the knock sensor connector.

A friend of mine told me that if I remove the AWD fuse in my '07 subaru forrester I will get better gas milage Is the true and where is the fuse located?

Your friend is half right. You CAN insert (not remove) a 15A fuse into the FWD slot under the hood and deactivate the center differential, turning the car into a front wheel drive. However, this only applies to vehicles with automatic transmissions, and it will not yield better gas mileage.

The purpose of this feature is to allow the vehicle to be towed with the rear wheels on the ground, or to use a spare tire of a different overall diameter than the other 3. It is designed to be used temporarily.

How do you change the cabin air filter in a 2001 Subaru Forester?

I have a 2003 forester. The cabin air filter in mine is located behind the glovebox. Open the glovebox and unscrew the 6 or 7 screws that hold the pannel in place. After you get if off, you should see a cannester like thing with a small pannel that kinda snaps in and out. Its a bit tricky to get if off but once you do just slide out the old filter and slide in the new one. Make sure it's in the same position as the original. F.Y.I.- don't buy the filter at the dealer, they want an arm and a leg. You can find them online for half the price!

actually you don't need to open the glove compartment in a 2001! Its under the glove box you will see two tabs. pull them off and then take the rubber out then the filter is there. im gonna try to get pics of it at a later time

What is the gas mileage on a 2009 suburu forester?

If you are looking to purchase one, you could look at the sticker on the window. Of course those never have been a guarantee and my '00 Forester has never gotten that high number while I have owned it. Fuel mileage ratings for all vehicles are provided by Uncle Sam at this Web site. Talked me out of buying the Range Rover: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm
