What role did the Nazis believe was played in World War 2 by the spear that pierced Jesus' side?

The Nazis were great believers in the occult. Whoever possessed the "spear of destiny", as it was called, was believed to be unbeatable in battle. The Nazis gained possession of a relic purported to be that spear when they took control of Vienna, Austria, where it was on display in a church. Legend has it that the day the Allied forces seized control of Vienna is the same day that the Germans surrendered.

Why do people still believe in superstitous beliefs and practices?

People want to feel secure in the idea that things happen for reasons. When science cannot explain things, they often turn to things that are not scientific to provide explanations. Also, even great scientists believe things many rational people cannot accept, but the fact that people cannot accept them does not mean they are not true. Belief in God is one example, and some people call it a superstition, while others, no less intelligent or rational, believe.

Why are green race cars bad luck?

It 's an early 1920"s ? racing superstition, also includes the number 13. Eating peanuts in the pits also is supposed to cause bloody doom. So of course there have been green cars and bikes with 13 peanuts painted on them. Green has been used a lot on teams. Tony Kanaan won the IRL championship in 04 driving a ... yes GREEN car. Harry Gant drove a green car (the #33 Skoal Bandit) in NASCAR to several wins.

Why is bad luck to take a pasty on a boat?

Firstly, it isn't; there's really no such thing as "bad luck" in the sense of "if you do this, you'll have bad luck."

Secondly, you should ask whoever told you this where on Earth they got the idea.

Thirdly, I hope by all that's holy you mean "pasty" in the sense of what most USians would call a "pot/meat pie", and not what "pasty" usually means in the US (if you don't know, here's a hint: it's called that because it gets "pasted" ... somewhere). In that case, bringing (or, worse, wearing) a pasty on some boats could prove to be very bad luck indeed.

What magical creatures did the Elizabethans believe in?

Dragons, Witches and Demons...

Answers

Depends on which part of the population you're referring to. The bulk of the population (just like today) believes in pretty much anything and everything. Everyone had seen or had a friend who had seen some sort of mystical creature.

However, the aristocracy and what could (very loosely) be called the middle class was just starting to get into the "age of reason" and so were far more sceptical.

Can you reverse the effects of a Ouija board?

First off, that stuff isn't something to play with. Next, your answer is yes, but it's extremely difficult (trust me, this has happened to me).

First, if you haven't already, talk to a priest or a paranormal investigation team. Then I would suggest you buy a Bible and sleep with it next to you. Third, and most frightening, burn the Ouija board. Yes, something will come out and I can attack, but bring a Bible when you burn it.

Another Answer:

Seek help with your personal issues; any lasting effect of a Ouija board is most likely a result of unresolved issues on your part, especially as the very exercise of Ouija promotes communication with the group subconscious and enables the unintentional exposure of very personal or deep-seated problems.

The alleged paranormal aspect of Ouija has been thoroughly debunked by scientific professionals time and time again, but it remains popular, especially with those who believe in the paranormal; the obvious connotation of 'paranormal believer' being that the believer is more openly susceptible to suggestion and paranormal interpretation.

Additional Information:

If you doubt the above and believe the problem is truly supernatural, then you can contact a shaman or exorcist. Just be careful and not fall for a con job, since the majority who claim to do such healing tend to be fake.

What are some superstitions about ambulances?

- Seeing an ambulance is very unlucky unless you hold your breath or pinch your nose until you see a black or brown dog

Touch your toes

Touch your nose

Never go in one of those

Until you see a dog

Agree it's unlucky but we used to touch our collars and say 'touch your collar never swallow (East end accent pronounced 'swaller'), never happen again' which kept us safe from whatever had happened to the person in the ambulance.

Is there a superstition about bananas on fishing boats?

There are many stories, some saying that ships hauling cargo (among them bananas) would sink and that the predominate feature on the surface was yellow bananas. I read that in Florida, charter boat captains have banned all things banana. No lotion with the word banana on it. No muffins with the offending fruit and esp. not the banana its self. Here is another story of the tale.

Around the 17th and 18th century trans-ocean crossings were very dangerous endeavors for Captains, crews and passengers aboard wooden sailing ships. There were a very high percentage of vessels that sank in these times. Ships often sailed routes that would take them near tropical islands, where they could replenish with food and water.

Passengers, explorers and crew would purchase crates of bananas from local islanders. Banana crates were have said to contain more than just this good fruit. They sometimes had spiders, snakes and other creepy crawlers taking up residence inside. These critters would then find there way into all the nooks and crannies, the bilge & bunk rooms and multiply. Causing moderate to serious problems aboard a ship at sea.

It order to combat this, Captains began telling people that bananas are very bad luck and the vessel will be successful by not having bananas aboard. If you know sailors they are a superstitious lot.
