Why would you lose power with your 87 samurai after putting on larger tires?

simply put the motors are to small also the are rated very badly for roll overs so larger tires is not really a good idea

edit: loss of power attributed to larger tires can be corrected by changing the gearing in either or both the transfer case and differentials. Download the FREE Suzuki Samurai Shop Manual from http://www.suzukiinfo.com/ or visit zukikrawlers.com

Also, the roll-over tendency of the Samurai is no greater than any other SUV of similar wheelbase. Details of the infamous Consumer Reports falsification of test results can be found at http://www.suzukiinfo.com/

Suzuki successfully sued Consumer Reports and demonstrated in court that CR had rigged the tests to cause the Samurai to fail.

Can a 1800 16 valve and automatic with overdrive from a SideKick or Tracker be installed in a Suzuki samurai What would be involved in this conversion?

The Sidekick 1.6 Liter 16 Valve conversion is by far the most popular.

The 1.8 conversion could be done but they only used that engine for a couple of years. It is not a popular engine.

I have the 1.6 conversion is a 1986 Suzuki Samurai.

The major components are:

Transmission adapter to connect to the Samurai transmission.

Engine mounts from Sidekick

Oil Pan and Oil Pick-up needs to be cut down unless the Samurai is raised to allow room for front axle.

Computer and wiring from Sidekick must be installed into the Samurai.

All of the engine controls, air filter, MAF, high pressure fuel pump.

There is a speedometer conversion as well. It adds a magnetic (reed) relay to the speedometer and lets the computer know when the car is moving.

-EVERYTHING- moves over from the donor vehicle including (most times) the third member gears because they are lower than a Samurai.

Samurai=3.73

Sidekick (auto)=4.62

Sidekick (Man)= 5.12

All of these items can be purchased separately from several Suzuki aftermarket suppliers on the web.

How do you time 1987 Suzuki Samurai?

but seriously, that's why God invented timing lights. Shine them on your crank pulley. The manual with the timing light should explain things better

remove rubber plug from transmission bell housing located on drivers side .start the engine and warm engine to normal operating temperature (failure to warm up engine to proper temp will result in incorrect timing) after warming engine make sure that idle is set to spec 800 +or-50 rpm (failure to set idle to spec will cause incorrect timing) connect timing light to spark plug wire number 1 .now looking at the bell housing opening where you removed the rubber plug in the middle towards the back of the opening there is a notch this is your timing match mark.on the flywheel is your timing marks for 86,87 samurai timing should be set at 10 deg b.t.d.c

Can you bolt a sidekick transmission to a samurai?

The transmission is completely different in these two. The Sidekick has an integral transfer case, the Samurai is divorced (separate) transfer case.

Although anything may be possible I have never seen this conversion and it will not 'Bolt' on.

What are the wires going to suzuki samurai transmission?

1. sensor to tell the computer when you were driving in 5th gear. 2. sensor to turn on the backup lights when you were in reverse. Also, there are wires going to your transfer case, that light up the '4wd' light to show when you are in 4WD rather than 2WD, IIRC. Paul H.

Why is your 87 suzuki samurai grinding and screaming in some gears?

Where is horn on Suzuki Samurai?

I have to assume you are looking for the actual horn, and not asking where on the steering wheel you need to press to get it to go beep-beep.

As far as I know the installation location for the Samurai horn has not changed since... probably the introduction of the SJ410.

Look for the actual horn to be located slightly to the passenger side of the top grill support, in front of the radiator but behind and under the grill support. It is a small disk shaped device hardly 3" diameter and about a half inch thick. :-) zn

How does one find the timing marks for a '95 S-10 - 2 point 2 liter engine?

ON MY 2.2 4CYLINDER ( 1999 ) YOU HAVE TO PULL THE TIMING CHAIN COVER TO SEE THE " TIMING MARKS " . ON THE CRANK SPROCKET IT IS A PUNCH MARK.....ON THE CAM SPROCKET IT IS A SMALL HOLE IN THE SPROCKET . BOTH MUST LINE UP WITH TABS ON THE CHAIN TENSIONER. THE REST OF THE TIMING IS DONE BY CRANK & CAM SENSORS AND THE COMPUTER.

What diff gears do you need for 31 inch tires on a suzuki samurai?

transfercase gears you would need 4.9:1 Gears is recommended or about a 115% reduction. they only make 4.57 and 5.38 Ring & Pinion Gears wich is a 23% and 44% reduction. isn't enough so trasnfercase reduction is the way to go.I have 6.5:1 187%and it is about perfect for 31" but anything larger and i would have to go more.
