What does P0172 and P0175 mean for 2000 Toyota Echo?

If your O2 sensors are old (more than 100,000 miles) I recommend replacing them both. Use ONLY genuine Denso replacement sensors (solder in ones can cost as little as $35 shipped). Change the air filter ($10) and if the problem doesn't go away, clean or replace the MAF. If the problem still doesn't go away, have the fuel pump tested or if it has more than 100,000 miles just replace it (replace fuel filter at the same time, each can be found for as little as $25 although its a somewhat difficult job to do yourself).

  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a vacuum leak.
  • There could be a fuel pressure or delivery problem
Possible SolutionsPossible solutions include:
  • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
  • Cleanthe MAF sensor. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
  • Inspect fuel lines for cracks, leaks, or pinches
  • Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail
  • Check the fuel injectors, they may be dirty. Use fuel injector cleaner or get them professionally cleaned/replaced.
  • Check for an exhaust leak before the first oxygen sensor (this is unlikely to cause the problem, but it is possible)

Repeat as needed when the hole is clean break the plug free no more then a turn or two recheck for dirt in the hole. That what works for me.Russell Houghton NS Canada

How many belts does a Toyota Echo have?

Two. The shop manual calls them both "drive belts", one touches the alternator (top of engine compartment), air conditioner compressor, and water pump. The other (bottom of engine compartment) belt drives the power steering pump. There is no timing belt, this car uses a timing chain, which is completely hidden from view in a sealed portion of the engine compartment. The timing chain does not have a scheduled replacement interval and should only be replaced if there is damage which could be indicated by chain noise.

Where is the oil temperature sensor located on a 2003 echo?

i Assume you are talking about the "Oil Pressure Switch"

Well its located right under the intake manifold , you might be able to remove it from the bottom , but make sure you remove your battery cable due to the starter's feeding wire close-by

Why is there 2 different starters for 2002 Toyota Echo one for US made cars one for japan made car?

I believe they use a slightly different engine with higher HP for the US market compared to Europe, Australia, and Japan, that might explain the different starter, but I haven't really researched it.

What car has the best fuel efficiency?

Car with Best Fuel Efficiency

Check out www.fueleconomy.gov for yearly information on all US cars fuel ratings. Any hybrid car (Honda Insight, Toyota Prius) will have excellent fuel ratings. Also, turbo diesel engines by VW do very well. Both the VW New Bug and the VW Golf models with TDI engines get 42/49 for the last few years.

Here are more opinions and answers from other s.com members:

  • I will submit that the Volkswagen Lupo TDi is the top in this category. Not sold in the US, the Lupo TDi gets around 95 mpg from its 3-cylinder engine. I'm not sure if it's got quite as much "oomph" as your average hybrid, but I'm sure that's better mileage than a hybrid would get. (Makes one wonder what kind of mileage a VW hybrid would get ... 150-200?)
  • The Honda Hybrid is said to get an extraordinary 650 miles to the gallon!
  • If by 650 you mean 65, you are correct. They get 600 or so a tank, but that's a whole tank, 10.6 gallons.

Hybrids have been proven to get poorer fuel economy than diesels in "real world" operation, especially in the relatively flat interior of Australia. Petrol hybrids are "in their element" in the cut and thrust of city driving, not on the open road.

How do you reset the check engine light on a 2000 Toyota Echo?

If your check engine light has come on, that means the cars computer a detected something wrong. If everything seems to be in order, take it to an auto parts store "Auto Zone", and the will hook up an OBDII scanner "On Board Diagnostics system" and that will give them a code and they can look up that code and tell you what has set the check engine light off and then they can clear the code.

Where is the Toyota Echo built?

Technically they are no longer building "echo's", they call it Yaris now. The echo for the US market ran from 2000 to 2005 and they were built in and shipped from Japan.

The new Yaris is built in Japan, France, and Thailand.

How do i get the speaker on my 2002 Echo to start working?

Speakers generally work when they are connected to the radio and not shorted out. You can test the terminals with a multimeter to see if its getting power.

Should the transmission oil filter screen be changed on a 2003 Toyota Echo?

The dealership said typically, you don't EVER need to change the filter/screen unless the transmission has suffered some type of damage to where there may be metal fragments floating around in the fluid.

It's true. Not only should you never change the filter, you should never change the fluid either, you'll end up doing more harm than good. I've got two echos with >200,000 miles on each, and I've never done anything with the transmission fluid or filter, transmission has never slipped or had any problems whatsoever. Timing chain and water pump don't need replacing either, they are built to last.

Taillights of 2000 Echo are gone but all other lights are OK including brake light which part is bad and replaced?

I filanny got an answer. Echo taillight bulb is also break bulb. This bulb has TWO filaments in it, one for taillight and the other for breaklight. My case was taillight filament is gone, but breaklight filament is OK. Answer is "change the bulb" Model number is 7443, (not 7440, which has only one filament for breaklight). Google 7443 bulb or check below site, it's only 6 bucks. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=SYL&MfrPartNumber=7443 Hope it will be helped to you~!

What are the spark plug gaps for Toyota Echo?

Owners Manual shows the following (pg 217): Spark Plug Type:

DENSO K16R-U

NGK BKR5EY Spark Plug Gap: .031 inches or .8mm Shop Manual shows the following (pg SS-19 under service specifications - ignition)

Recomended Spark Plug: Denso SK16R11

NKG IFR5A11 Electrode Gap 1.1mm (0.043 in.) To remove use 16mm spark plug wrench.

When tightening, tighten to 13ft lbs I am not sure which gap takes presidence. When you are at the auto parts store or are looking at a specific spark plug manufactures catalog it should also tell you what gap to use on their plug for your application. If you get the irridium plugs you should not have to gap them (IE bosh 4501 http://www.spark-plugs.org/bosch-4501-platinum-ir-fusion-spark-plug/B000PL2AZCID.html) Good DIY Link: http://echodiy.multiply.com/journal/item/6/Spark_Plugs

Where is the oil drain plug 2004 Toyota Echo?

Bottom right hand side (if you're sitting in the car) of the engine oil pan. 14mm wrench.

Belt routing diagram for 2002 Toyota Echo?

See related link. If it starts squeaking after replacement (or otherwise) you need to make it tighter (common problem with Echo). To do this, you need to first loosen the three bolts on the alternator (two on top, one on bottom) then you can pivot it forward by putting a pry bar between the alternator and the engine and pushing the top of the pry bar back toward the windshield.

Size of tires on Toyota Echo 2003?

175 65 14 or optional 185 60 15 it will say on the tires

Tune up 2003 echo?

The Toyota echo does not have wires or a rotor, each spark plug has its own ignition coil (coil pack). So really, all you can do is change the spark plugs.

What are the colors of Toyota Echo stereo wires?

There are three plugs in the back of an Echo radio. Before I blew the fuse, this is what I had figured out. The black one, of course, is the antenna. The other two plugs are white(5 wires) and blue(8 wires). The white plug is mainly speaker wires. The blue plug has speaker wires and the power and ground wires. White plug: Black and Gold wires --- right speaker(not sure front or back) Red and White wires --- left speaker(not sure front or back) (Not sure about the white/green striped wire) Blue plug: Purple and Pink wires --- speaker(not sure L or R, front or back) Green and teal wires --- speaker(not sure L or R, front or back) (Not sure about the green wire) Power in blue plug: Grey wire --- Main power(thru ignition) Teal/yellow striped wire --- Accesary power(constant for stations or clock, etc...) White/black striped wire --- Ground That's the wiring, now if anyone can tell me where the fuse is, I would be ever so appreciative. White Plug: Black and yellow wires are left rear speaker, red and white are right rear speaker, green and white are part of the interior lights system.(I recommend not touching thoughs as it will break the circuit and the interior dash lights won't work at all) Blue Plug: green and blue are left front speaker, pink and violet are left front tweeter speaker (on 6 speaker systems), then the other two blue and green, one is right front and the other is right front tweeter speaker (on six speaker system.

When to change transmission fluid for Toyota Echo 2003?

For automatics, there is no manufacturer defined change interval. If you drive in dirty conditions a lot, you might want to change it every 80k miles. Under normal conditions you may not want to ever change it. There are echo's on the road with 400,000 miles that have never had a transmission fluid change.

What is meaning of 2000 Toyota Echo trouble code P0107?

Trouble code P0107 means: Manifold Absolute Pressure/BARO Sensor Low Input

What will it cost to replace your car battery on a 2000 Toyota Echo?

Around $50. I highly recommend the Kirkland brand that Costco sells. If you don't have a membership, maybe you can find a friend that does to buy it for you. They have better specifications than the battery that came with your car (higher cold crank amps, and higher rated lifespan) and also has a 3 year warranty. If you search, you will find lots of people recommend them. Also - changing out your battery is a very simple job so if you've never done it before, don't hesitate to do it yourself. Walmart and many other places also sell decent batteries.
