What is the drive cycle to reset the computer on a 2002 Echo?

NOTE: This is a Toyota OBDII Drive Cycle description that applies to many models and years, but the following was originally published for 2000-2002 4Runner, Avalon, Camry, RAV4, Sienna, Solara, Tacoma, and Tundra.

Monitor status will be reset to "Incomplete" if the ECU loses power or DTCs are cleared. If a drive cycle is interrupted, it can be resumed. Avoid sudden speed changes.

Check engine light (MIL) must be OFF.

STEP 1: Connect a scan tool and check monitors status and precondition.

STEP 2: Start the engine and idle for at least 2 minutes

STEP 3: Drive at 40-70 mph or more for at least 3 minutes. Be sure engine speed remains at 900-3200 rpm.

STEP 4: Stop the vehicle and allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds or more.

STEP 5: Drive the vehicle at 25 mph for at least 40 seconds or more. Keep engine speed above 900 rpm.

STEP 6: Stop the vehicle and allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds or more.

STEP 7: Repeat Steps 5-6 ten times.

STEP 8: Check the monitor status. It should switch to "Complete". If not, be sure enabling criteria are met.

STEP 9: If the monitor has not switched to complete, turn the ignition OFF and repeat Steps 2-7.

STEP 10: The readiness status may not switch to "Complete" if a Pending Code is detected. If so, a second drive cycle is needed to confirm the DTC.

STEP 11: Perform a second drive cycle to confirm the DTC. Once a second drive cycle is completed, a current DTC will be stored.

Where is the 2000 echo Idle speed control Valve?

The idle air control valve is attached to the bottom of the throttle body. It is computer controlled and not manually adjustable, however if you are having idle problems it could be stuck or clogged. You should clean it when you clean your throttle body as part of routine preventive maintenance. You can remove it, run the engine, and verify that the valve moves.

What causes the check engine light to come on on a 2001 Toyota Echo?

There any many possibilities, but some of the most common are not replacing the gas cover correctly (tighly until it clicks) and the airbag sensor becomes unplugged (common after changing the oil). Make sure you're keeping up on replacing the oil, water, antifreeze, air filter, etc.

My light came on my 2001 Echo and I replaced the air filter (which I learned is not automatically changed at each oil change) and the Check Engine light would not go off. Tried this trick:

.....Also, you could: "disconnect the negative battery connection. Press your brake pedal down for 10 seconds. Reattach your negative battery connection. The computer will be reset." ......

And voilà; ready and rearin' to go !

"Turning off the warning light" seems dangerous, but it really isn't. If the problem is REAL, the light will come on again the next time it is detected. If it is only a one-time glitch, you may never see it again. If it keeps coming back, THEN you should worry...

How do you do a brake job on a toyota echo?

Just google how to replace disc brakes for a good description with pictures, or drum brakes if you are doing the rears. Disc is very simple job (less than an hour), drum not so much (can take 4 hours the first time you do it).

How do you change the dashboard lights of a Toyota Echo?

This actually is an extremely easy job, and can be done in less than 5 minutes. Remove the oval shaped cover plate just in front of the guage cluster, using a small flat object to pry it up. Reach into the hole that was covered and gently pull up and away from the dashboard. The cover will come off. There are two nuts, one on either side of the instrument cluster, that remove with a 10mm socket (or a Philips screwdriver on older models). Once these are out, simply gently pull the cluster out and turn it over so you can see the back side of the bulbs (or in older models, release the snap-on cover plate to reveal the bulbs which are accessible on the front side of the panel). Do NOT unplug any of the wiring. Locate which bulb(s) that are not working, and gently "unscrew" the bulbs about 1/4 to 1/2 turn with a screwdriver (or in older models gently pull bulbs straight out with long nose pliers). These bulbs are about 2 inches long, and cost between $5 and $10 at your Toyota dealer (on older models the bulbs are less than 1 inch long, approximately 1/4 inch in diameter and cost between $1 and $2 at a Toyota dealer). Put in the new bulb and put her all back together. Very simple!

Testimonial: When I did this on my 2001 Echo, the bulbs pulled directly out (similar to the small, old-style Christmas tree bulbs). Each of 2 bulbs had a rubber-like color coating over it which came off easily. Examining the filament indicated that these bulbs were indeed lamps, and not LEDs. Looking closely at the filament revealed that the lamp had indeed burned out as evidenced by the gap or space between the two wire leads.

What is the tire lug nut torque spec for a 2001 Toyota Echo?

As far as I know, it is exactly the same as the Tercel which preceded it -- 65 -70 lb-ft. I've had no problems using this spec on my own 2001 Echo.

How do you change license plate light bulbs in a Toyota Avalon?

First you have to remove the black covering on the top of the inside part of the trunk. There are "clips that you pull out on the front part of the trunk material. Then pull the sensor down. It will unclip. Then you have to turn the bulb holder to release it. Replace the bulb and put everything back.

Does 4A-FE need valve clearance adjustment or not?

the only reason that this might need to be adjusted is if there was interior engine work done like a new cam or removed shims, if not, then the answer to your question is no.

The service manual for 1990 4A-FE Corolla recommends that the valve clearences be checked every 60,000 miles or 72 months. This is "Schedule B" for normal driving as opposed to "Schedule A" for more demanding use of the engine. The clearances are checked by removing the valve cover gasket and checking them with a feeler gage. The valves can be adjusted by using small circular shims.

It may be that in practice the valves hardly ever need adjusting. I think this is a remarkably durable engine.

What is the fuel capacity of a 2001 Toyota Echo?

What size wiper blades on 2003 Toyota Echo?

Where is the fuel filter located on a 2001 Toyota Echo?

It is inside the gas tank under the rear seat. There is a video tittled "Fix your Echo" on Youtube. Very easy to do, but be careful with the fumes.

I would not say "very easy", but its definitely doable. If you are changing the filter, I would change the pump at the same time since they are in the same assembly and both only cost about $25. The whole job will take about 4 hours. You are supposed to buy replacement o-rings and whatnot, so I'd have them ready in advance otherwise you will be stuck reusing what was there. You can only get the gaskets/rings from Toyota dealers, although I have reused them without problem.

What is the wheel lug torque setting on a 2000 Toyota Echo?

2000 Toyota Echo hesitating when you step down on the gas pedal Please help I've changed the MAF O2 sensor TPS replaced all vacuum lines air filter new gas tank and fuel filter Whatelse could itbe?

Perhaps timing belt has stretched and needs to be replaced Correction: the car has no timing belt, it has a timing chain. I had this same problem on my car, the mass air flow sensor was the culprit! it sits on top of the air filter, it might be dirty. check it out, take a screw driver and pull the sensor out. if there is any dirt on it at all, this is what is causing the problems. any dirt in the area will also cause the disturbance in air flow to the engine. hope this helps.

Can you tow a trailer on your ls?

If by "ls" you mean "little sedan", then yes, I've been towing a trailer on my echo for 3 years. Officially this is not recommended by Toyota, however it is pre-drilled for mounting a hitch, and the European owners manual says its OK to tow 2000 lbs. I would not exceed that, nor would I exceed 200 lbs tongue weight. It is also advisable that you use a trailer that has its own brakes, otherwise you may notice poor breaking performance and could overheat your brakes as well.

Where can you buy a 2005 Malibu shop manual?

They are hard to locate on-line as I found out, but I found one at Advance Auto Parts. It is Haynes #38027 entitled "General Motors Chevrolet Malibu 2004 thru 2007." It is a Hynes Repair Manual based on a complete teardown and rebuild. Published in 2007, printed in USA, authors Rob Mattox John H. Hayes. The pages are numbered by section so without counting them it is better to say the book is about 8 1/2 by 11 inches and 9/16 inch thick.

26" drivers side, 13" or 14" passenger side and special 12" rear wiper blade (which can be tricky to find). Be sure to always lookup the exact part numbers for the brand of wipers you decide to buy to ensure not only the correct lengths but also the correct attachments. See related links below.
