Toyota MR2

Not sure about others but, I have 3 Mr2's (2x1985 and 1x1987). On one of the 85's I currently have 271,600+ miles and still going. I however have come across a recent problem with the electrical (e.g. alternator & fusible links) but we're working it out. I like to call these cars my little timex's - they turly do take a licking and keep on ticking!

The Toyota 3vz fe will fit and has been done before it's a very strong engine you will find them in windoms hi lux utes and the Lexus 300. It's a 3000cc quad cam v6 good engine

Check the fan relay.

I would set the timing back to factory setting. I've heard you can run race gas '100 octane'- just make sure its unleaded race gas 110 octane is usually leaded which would plug your cat. I've heard from other posts this lowers NOx test numbers quite a bit- make sure to run your car for a while before hand to ensure the EGR has opened bypassing the exhaust gases. FLIP same thing happen to me today. dash lights turned off and all of a sudden the whole car, now it wont start no lights on the dash not even a crank from the engine. so depressed :(

when sitting in drivers seat, it is in the kick panel near your left foot behind where the front hood latch is and up slightly higher. its a small fuse box, one of 3 on the mr2 mk2

The MKII MR2 Bolt Pattern in 5X114.3 mm. This is a Ford pattern converted to metric. I don't know why Toyota would do this, but it is what it is.

on a mk2 1990 -1997 the fuel pump is in the tank which in in the middle of the car where a drive shaft on a rear wheel drive car would be.you have to remove heat shield in engine bay which will reveal the hoses you need to disconnect, from memory 2 metal one rubber and the filler hose.then you need to remove covers underneath the car remove gear stck cover disconnect wires the are for the fuel gauge and pump .then underneath car you will see lots of things you will have to remove they are pretty obvious like handbrake assembly, bolts that hold the radiator pipes up so you can push them to the side when you lower the tank. no fun takes at least 5 hrs unless you have a hoist which would make things a lot easier

I have a 95 G20 drove it like this for almost a year with it going on and off at times then one day it died- alternator finally went. alternator!!! and or ground to alternator.

The timing belt is not difficult to replace nor is it expensive in and of itself. The problem is that the timing belt is difficult to get to. Mechanics also suggest that you replace the water pump and possibly some other components so that the the same area does not have to be dismantled in the future to do these repairs. It is not hard to get into the $400+ range.

The better question would be how much does it cost to PASS...

code 47 means sub-tps circuit fault or idl2 and vta2 voltage too high (>1.5v) according to my draper diognostics fault finding manual

Remove wheels

Re-install 2 lug nuts to hold rotor in place

Remove caliper mounting bolts

Slide caliper off rotor

Remove inner and outer brake pads

Fully retract piston into caliper body - may need a special tool (not expensive available at Sears or auto parts)

Piston may be threaded if parking brake is used by this caliper

Install new pads

PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO SET PADS AGAINST ROTOR PRIOR TO MOVING VEHICLE

Check your:

Distributor cap and rotor (Mr2 turbo's are well known for their ability to eat distributor caps alive)

Spark plugs (look for signs of detonation, burning oil, running rich/lean)

If you have detonation, turn down the boost or check your timing.

If you are burning oil, check your piston rings.

If you are running rich/lean, take off any aftermarket blow-off valve, and replace it with the stock by-pass valve. Also, check your MAF.
