How do you replace distributor seal on 1991 Previa?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Previa Dist.CapSorry, but you don't. The Toyota Previa has an internalized distributor cap/rotar located under the console on the driver's side. Unless you are a certified Toyota Mechanic, it's basically impossible to change/clean/whatever.

Actually... the dist. and cap is under the pass. seat and is mounted on the end of the cyl. head. It is replaceable.

Wrong Answer!

The Previa's Dist. is under the engine, facing to the rear of the van. The Cap & rotor are replaceable.

The dist. is easy to remove if you have enough room to get under the van.

Also, the dist. SHAFT oil seal goes out regular on all Previa's. Ck. this

1st. as it is the most prevalent oil leak for Previa's.

The 2nd most prevalent oil leak for these van's is from the valve cover not reinstalled correctly after removed for any reason. Make sure to use Sealant in the correct spots.

See any Haynes repair manuel. (I detest Chiltons repair-no-help manuel.

How do you wire a 4 flat harness to pull a boat trailer?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Get a universal kit. Looks like a little 2&1/2 by 2&1/2 black box, 3/4 inch thick. It has 4 wires with a female plug that hook right up to your trailer. The other side of the box has 5 wires that connect to the previa. Remove tail light lense - 2 screws. Pry back using screwdriver not outward. There should be 1 extra long wire (green) that goes to the right turn signal. This box will be fastened to the left side, or you can leave it free. Fish the long wire where you want it to go with a coat hanger.Just get it up to the bulbs on the right side. You need to go to radioshack for some tapping connecters (red for 18-22 gauge) you need 4. You need a Test Light screwdriver with alligator clip on long wire. Find a ground point (small screw under bumper). You need to keep testing by putting on your turn signals, taillights, and stop light to find which bulb is lighting up. On the right turn signal connect that long wire to the positive wire. If you did it right, your test light will show when you stick the point into the trailer female plug marked right turn. Do the same thing with the left turn signal (yellow wire). Now the tail and stop lights operate off the same bulb. Again, turn on your running lights. 2 positive wires go to the same bulb -- 2 filaments. Take your test light and touch metal crimped going into bottom of bulb. One will light test light, one won't. the one that lights is where you want to tap into with the brown wire or taillights. Should be marked - on the unit. That leaves 1 wire left. Put something on the brake pedal to hold it down. Now with test light touch other positive wire to that same bulb -- it should light up. Connect the red wire to that positive wire. stop lights. YOU ARE ONLY CONNECTING ONE WIRE FROM THE UNIT TO ONE POSITIVE WIRE THAT GOES TO THE BULB. THE WHITE WIRE IS GROUND AND WILL COMPLETE EVERY- THING ONCE IT IS HOOKED UP. Now take ground wire and attach it to the small screw that you used for testlight. Lift up rug - you should find a predrilled whole for ground. If not drill one - put a gromment on it.

How do you replace the window regulator on a Toyota Previa?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I drove one about 600k. They do not usually go bad. Once the door panel is removed, there is about 4 bolts holding an "x" type assembly(heavy metal old style regulator used by many manufacturers, including GM). Motor itself can fail, and is attached by a couple of screws, and is in a black plastic enclosure(replace the whole plastic assembly). If you live in the snow belt, and you try to lower the window when it is still stuck to the rubber moulding, it will strip out a few teeth, and will not go all the way up. Usually about an inch still open. One cure for this is to remove the "x" assembly, and take it to a weld shop. They can braze you a couple of spot drops in place of missing teeth. Basically a couple of drops of weld. You can then file them down to look like the rest of the teeth on the assembly. Grease all the teeth real well, and you will be in good shape for many years. More than likely, your problem is the latter.

Where is the location of door control relay for 1991 previa LE?

What door issues are you having? What door issues are you having? If it is an intermittent sliding-door lock issue, you need to check door contacts on bottom right corner of door frame, and on the body. Clean and grease two small pin connectors(black oval hard plastic or rubber unit held on by two bolts)with an emory board, followed by a solvent like good old-fashioned lighter fluid. Unbolt the rubber assembly. I have found after a while, the contacts wear down, and you will probably need cut a cardboard spacer, and use it as a shim between the unit and the van body, to promote good electrical contact. Gray cardboard from a memo pad, or legal pad works nicely. After you install the shim, unit, and bolts, finish off with a little silicone on a cotton swab, around the perimiter to keep the moisture off the edge of the cardboard. Water seems to run off the roof and right past this area.

Where are the spark plugs located in Toyota Previa models from 1991-1996?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

To change the Spark Plugs on a Previa (1991-1996) you have to remove the passenger front seat, lift the carpet and then you will find a cover on the floorplate that has to be removed.

Once the floorplate cover is off you will see the engine. There is also a small cover over the spark plugs and wires that has to be removed. The 2.4 liter petrol engine uses small 16mm spark plugs and a small 16mm socket will be needed to replace the plugs.

First check that you ave the correct level of water/antifreeze in your system. A Low level will cause this as well as lead to other more expensive damage. You might want to check your thermostat. and then also check the heater core to see if the hose is connected right and there are no leaks.

What is the best way to remove the spark plug wire caps on the dtribution harness?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It's honestly a better idea to just give in and go buy a new set of spark plug wires... You will tear them up and cause a dead short if you try and pull the caps off of the wires... most of them are glued on, and they can't take much pressure if you pull on them... sorry. Just buy new ones, you'll waste less time that way, and they are not really that expensive.

Where might people find a Toyota Previa for sale?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Looking for a specific model of car has become easier thanks to the Internet. If one is interested in purchasing a Toyota Previa, contacting Toyota dealers in the local area is a good first step. Widening the search by browsing printed or online classifieds, or using car location services such as Auto Trader, can possibly result in finding a better deal. It also eliminates the reliance on local only sellers.

1993 Toyota Previa The transmission slips badly problem started slowly over time 320000mi someone told me it might be a temperature problem or a selanoid any help?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First check your oil. when was it changed last what colour is it? It should be red. Badly contaminated oil in an auto will lead to slip.

I had a problem perhaps similar to yours on my 91'. The transmission shop said it needed a rebuild but they would not test anything except to road test and it never slipped during the road test. after living with the occasional slip into neutral for years a mechanic finally diagnosed the problem as one or more failing solenoids. The expense of replacing a solenoid is prohibitive and perhaps more than just buying a used tranny with low miles and swapping. I got one with a year guarantee for four hundred but have not installed it yet. Sometimes solenoids will work abnormally with a bad contact or may stick due to corrosion. It is worth cleaning and checking the contacts first.

What is a non-Toyota type oil you can use in your 1995 Toyota Previa supercharger?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Superchargers use a special type of oil that you can get from the dealer. I bought a small oil canister for $50 OMG, so expensive but need it. Hope that helps. I use GM supercharger oil in mine.... it runs about $12 at a GM dealer and comes in a pretty good sized bottle.... I read that it worked, tried it, and have not had any problems....
