How do you find shift override in order to get a 2000 solara with dead battery in neutral?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Your owners manual should have that information Most vehicles have a spot on the center console with a small 'pop out' tab. Remove the tab then press the button/lever under it with a screwdriver to release the shifter. Or, connect another battery with jumper cables. Cheers

How do you change the front brake pads on a 2004 Toyota solara?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It's simpler than you might think.

1. Loosen lug nuts slightly

2. Raise the front of the car and slide a couple of jack stands underneath so you can't be hurt if your jack fails.

3. Remove the road wheels

4. Remove the (3) bolts holding the calipers to the car.

5. Lift the caliper off the rotor and note how the brake pads are mounted.

6. Lift the brake pads out of the caliper. Until you're familiar with things I'd suggest laying the pads on the ground exactly the way they came out of the caliper for reference.

7. Clean the caliper well with spray brake cleaner

8. Using one of the old pads, press the caliper piston back in. Don't use your thumbs, you can push the piston in too far (besides, it's hard on your thumbs).

9. Install new pads along with any anti-squeal plates/springs that were attached to the old pads and remount the caliper. Now repeat #4 through 8 on the other side.

10. Remount road wheels and lower front of car.

11. Start engine and press brake pedal multiple times to bring pads back in contact with disc. This is important. If you forget, you won't have any brakes the first time you apply them while moving.

What kind of spark plugs does a 2007 Toyota Solara require?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The 07 Solara uses an Iridium tipped plug. The exact number depends on the engine you have (4 or 6 cylinder) so check your owners manual.

Be aware (this is also in your manual) that spark plugs don't need replacement until you reach 100,000 miles. If you aren't there yet, don't worry about it.

Does the timing belt on a 2001 Toyota Solara V6 need to be changed and how often?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, the maintenance schedule for your 3MZ-FE engine calls for a timing belt replacement at 90,000 miles (or 108 months, whichever comes first). In addition to the belt the schedule also calls for replacement of both the cabin and engine air filters along with an oil change and tire rotation. Not on the schedule but highly recommended is a water pump replacement. All the bits and pieces necessary to reach the pump are already removed for the timing belt swap. The only additional cost would be for the water pump so change it with the belt and save the labor time/cost later. While everything is apart, spark plugs on the V-6 are scheduled for replacement at 100,000 miles. Owners choice but as above, you may choose to replace them at 90k and not worry about diving under the hood again in 10,000 miles. Cheers,

When do you replace a 2001 2.2 liter solara timing belt?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You don't. As answered previously in the WikiAnswers Solara section the 4 cylinder (2.2 litre) Solara (and Camry) engine uses a timing chain that doesn't require maintenence. The six cylinder engine uses a belt, recommended replacement is every 90 thousand miles.

What is the process in which to unlock manually or with wireless entry the passenger door of a 2004 Toyota Solara?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Manually you can unlock the door using the inside lock (above the handle). Toggle it so the 'red' portion shows and the door is unlocked. With the remote, press the (unlock) button twice. The first press unlocks the driver side door, second press unlocks the passenger side. There's yet another option. You can set the door locks so both the driver and passenger doors unlock when you put the transmission in park (and lock when you put it in gear). You'll find that information on page 22 of your owners manual. Actually, you'll also find the other 'how to lock/unlock' info in the owners manual too. Cheers

Where is lighter fuse?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The cockpit fuse panel is on the drivers side left of the steering wheel underneath the control switch for power mirrors behind the coin holder which lifts out and up.

Fuse panel. The location of the panel is listed in your owner's manual. Don't have one, then get one. Dealer, salvage yard, e-bay, or a Google Search will help you to find an owner's manual.

Is timing belt replacement considered scheduled maintenance on a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The 2000 Mitsubishi Montero 3.5L is listed as an "Interference Engine" under timing belts in the www.RockAuto.com auto parts catalog. This means the valves or other major engine parts will be damaged if the timing belt breaks while the engine is running. So replace it as part of scheduled maintenance. Many manufacturers recommend changing the timing belt every 60K miles. I do not know if Mitsubishi recommends different mileage intervals.

Where is the fuse box on a 2002 Toyota Camry solara?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are two. The primary fuse box is in the traditional location under the left side of the dash (to the left of the steering column) roughly where the driver's left knee is while driving. Inside the lid is a diagram showing the amperage and purpose of each fuse. The other box is under the hood on the driver's side. You'll mostly find relays inside for operation of windows, lights, horn and engine functions. As with the other box, the inside of the lid diagrams the purpose of each item.

If you need more info, check your owner's manual. It will tell you exactly where the fuse boxes are, maybe with pictures.

What does the warning light exclamation symbol mean on the dashboard of your 2005 Solara?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The exclamation point means that your tires have a low air pressure. You may want to check it out and see which tire may need some air.

Check your owner's manual for dashboard symbols. Some of them are more important than others.

The exclamation point between parenthesis (!) is supposed to represent a tire icon. As the original answer indicated, it means one (or more) of your tires is low on pressure. Consult the owners manual or driver's side door sticker for proper pressures then reset the pressure sensing system.

To reset, hold down the button (lower left side of dash) until the (!) light flashes several times. You then have to drive several miles before the sensor calibrates itself again. If the light comes back on in a very short time, you didn't hold the button long enough. Wait for the light to stop flashing. If the light comes on again in a day or a few days, you have a slow leak in one tire. Have it repaired.

How do you install a rear facing seat in a 2000 solara?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

While there are rear facing seats in limousines and rear facing seats in some older 9 passenger station wagons (commonly referred to as the 'barf' seat) installing one in a Solara presents special challenges. The biggie, it's only a 2-door car so climbing in and out of the back is already a little dicey for many adults. You'd need to remove the existing rear seat to provide legroom. All in all, not a practical modification.

Now, if you're asking about installation of a 'baby' seat, the owner's manual both for the Solara and the seat should offer specific (and safe) procedures. Many police departments will also offer help including a demonstration.

How do you change the cabin air filter on 1999 Toyota Solara?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Answer: You don't. Cabin air filters were introduced on the Solara in 2002. (According to local dealer.) If I am not mistaken, you access the cover by opening the hood and removing the A/C fresh air intake screen and reaching in the opening to unlatch a smaall access door.

What does the battery light on a 2001 Solara mean?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It means there's a problem with the charging system....but you knew that.

The problem can be as minor as corroded battery terminals or as expensive as a faulty alternator. Between those extremes could be a broken drive belt or even a wire that a creature has chewed through.

After cleaning the battery terminals if the light is still on inspect the rest of the system. As long as the problem isn't a broken drive belt (which will be obvious) you'll want to remove the alternator and take it to an auto supply store to be tested or have the car transported to a mechanic you trust.

Where do you pour brake fluid in a 2001 Toyota solara?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The brake fluid reservoir is on top of the master cylinder. That's mounted to the engine side of the firewall directly in front of where the driver sits. Before removing the cap, clean the area around it thoroughly to prevent any dirt from getting into the opening. Text on the lid (and in your owner's manual) will tell you what type of brake fluid to use. Someplace on the reservoir you'll find marks indicating low and high levels for the fluid. Don't fill above the top level.

If your existing brake fluid is anything but clear, it's contaminated (normal after a couple of years) and needs to be changed. That's a little more complicated with anti-lock brakes than 'back in the day' before braking systems got complicated. Just opening the nipple at each wheel while someone else pumps the brake pedal doesn't work anymore. If you don't have the proper equipment it's best to head for a brake repair or other shop where the work can be done properly.

How do you replace air filter 2004 Toyota solara?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Here's what ya do. Call your significant other over to the car and say "honey, I bet you can't figure out how to change the engine air filter on this car." With any luck she takes you up on the bet, has the filter changed in under five minutes and you owe the SO a beer. To do it yourself is still a less than five minute job. 1. Open the hood

2. Peer into the darkness at the front of the engine compartment on the drivers side. You'll notice a fairly large black box with a large black tube (the air intake) between it and the throttle body.

3. At your option, remove that tube (takes more time but makes the rest of the job simpler) or just loosen the clamp nearest the box.

4. The big black box has two, 10 mm bolts on one end (nearest the fender). Unscrew those bolts.

5. Unplug the Mass Airflow Sensor (connector on top of the tube at the box end)

6. Lift the box lid from the side the bolts were loosened and flip it over so it's resting on the engine if you didn't remove the intake tube. Just set it aside if you did.

7. Remove the original filter and check inside the box for heavy collections of dirt, critter nests or anything that might contaminate your brand new filter. Wipe them out.

8. Put new filter where you removed the old one and reverse the process to re-assemble the airbox. Done! Now you get the beer. By the way, if it's time to replace the engine air filter, it's also time to replace the cabin filter. You'll find that behind the glove box door. Just remove the door, pull out the tray containing the filter, remove the old one, put in a new one and re-assemble the door. Cheers

How long does it take to replace a timing belt on a 99 Toyota solara?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Time required for that job depends on tools available (air vs manual) and experience. Someone who's done it before might take a couple of hours start to finish. Those that haven't could spend an entire day on it.

I'd suggest you download a factory service manual from Toyota or pick up a Clymer's manual (auto supply or online). Both will provide detailed procedures and valuable pictures.

How can you still get the same error code if you changed the correct o2 sensor for p0135 On my 1999 Toyota solara sle v6?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You most likely replaced the wrong o2 sensor. The Hanes manual incorrectly state that the bank one sensor one O2 sensor is in the front. It is actually facing the firewall towards the bottom. Cylinder one faces the same direction; hence the nomenclature.
