It is a language close to what you may Find spoken in Haiti, Guadeloupe and Martinique. The language is based in French and most of its vocabulary come from this language; However because Trinidad was colonized by more than one European nation and because of the multicultural, multiracial and multilingual characteristics of the island's population; the language contains lexical items from many languages such as Spanish, Hindi, Island Carib and various African languages.
